About the journal

More than 22,000 oncologists and other cancer care professionals across the United States read JNCCN – The Journal of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network. This peer-reviewed, indexed medical journal, edited by Harold J. Burstein, MD, PhD, provides the latest information about best clinical practices, oncology outcomes, and new research initiatives. JNCCN features updates on the NCCN Clinical Practice Guidelines in Oncology™, review articles elaborating on guideline recommendations, and health services and clinical research papers. JNCCN's goal is to improve the quality of cancer care by addressing oncology practice for all disease stages and presentations. Content covers the entire spectrum of oncologic health care, from prevention and screening to treatment and supportive care.
JNCCN is dedicated to improving the quality of cancer care locally, nationally, and internationally while enhancing the collaboration between academic medicine and the community physician. JNCCN is further committed to disseminating information across the cancer care continuum by publishing clinical practice guidelines and reporting rigorous outcomes data collected and analyzed by the experts from the world's leading care centers.
Instructions to Authors
JNCCN—The Journal of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network is a peer-reviewed publication dedicated to improving the quality of cancer care locally, nationally, and internationally while enhancing the collaboration between academic medicine and the community physician. In addition to publishing the hallmark NCCN Clinical Practice Guidelines in Oncology™, JNCCN will consider original research, review papers, commentary, and correspondence with a focus on clinical and translational research and applications of the NCCN Guidelines in everyday practice. Appropriate topics include the full cancer care continuum: prevention, detection, treatment, supportive care, and survivorship. Original research can include randomized trials, intervention studies, studies of screening and diagnostic tests, cohort studies, cost-effectiveness analyses, case-control studies, and surveys with high response rates.

Manuscript submission requirements
These guidelines are in accordance with the "Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals."
Previous publication or duplicate submission
Manuscripts are considered with the understanding that they have not been published previously and are not submitted for publication elsewhere. However, reports following presentation at a meeting will be considered for publication. The editorial office should be notified of any closely related manuscripts submitted or published elsewhere.

Conflicts of interest
JNCCN requires that all authors disclose any primary financial relationships they may have with companies whose products or whose competitors' products are discussed in the submitted manuscript. Financial relationships include, but are not limited to, holding equity or paid consultancy and should be stated on the title page of the manuscript.
Copyright
Authors of accepted manuscripts agree to transfer copyright to NCCN. Copyright transfer forms are sent with page proofs. Authors of accepted manuscripts will also be asked to complete a Financial Disclosure Form.
Manuscript preparation
Manuscripts can be submitted electronically to JNCCN@nccn.org.
Hard copy submission is not necessary;however, authors wishing to submit a hard copy should include 1 original of the manuscript and any tables and figure legends and 1 set of original figures. A computer disk containing the manuscript and any tables and figure legends (MS Word preferred) must accompany each submission, including revised manuscripts. Manuscripts submitted electronically do not require a follow-up mailed submission.
Cover letter
Submissions must also include a cover letter stating 1) the intent of submitting the work for publication in JNCCN, and 2) that the article is original and has not been previously published or is currently being considered for publication elsewhere.
Title page
In addition to a brief, specific title (JNCCN reserves the right to edit titles as necessary), the title page should include the full names, academic degrees, titles, and affiliations of all authors. The corresponding author should also include current street address phone and fax numbers, and e-mail address. The title page should also include an acknowledgement of any financial support or involvement.
Abstracts and key words
All articles should include a brief abstract and 3 to 7 key words. Abstracts should be 100-250 words in length and present an overview of the manuscript. Research articles will have structured abstracts. Abstracts should not contain references or footnotes, and abbreviations, specific numeric results, and P values should be avoided when possible.
Text
Manuscripts should be typed, double-spaced, with at least 1-inch margins. Follow the American Medical Association Manual of Style for grammar, punctuation, and style. Manuscripts should be written as concisely as possible and should not exceed 3500 words or 13 typed, double-spaced pages, including references. (Figures and tables should be counted as 1 page each.) All manuscripts are subject to editing, including for length. Use footnotes only in tables and figures, not in text.
References
All references should be cited at least once in text and numbered consecutively as cited. List all authors; if more than 3, list the first three with "et al." Abbreviate journal titles as per MEDLINE/ Index Medicus. If a journal is not indexed or you are unsure of the abbreviation, include the full journal title. Articles in press, government publications, internet-published references, theses, and government publications can be included in the reference list. Unpublished data and personal communications should be cited in text as "(Smith, MD, Personal communications)" but not included in reference list. See examples below for reference style:

Figures and tables
All illustrations, including algorithms and charts, should be referred to as "Figures." Figure legends and tables can be included in the text file. Figures should be sent as separate files. Figures and tables should be numbered consecutively as they appear in text; all figures and tables must be cited at least once. Tables should be created in MS Word rather than a special table-making program. All illustrations should be in black and white. Color slides or photographs will be considered ONLY if the color is necessary to adequately convey the information. For best reproduction, photographs should be high-quality, with a glossy finish and high contrast. Include name of the corresponding author, figure number, and orientation (top and bottom) on the back of each photograph.
Permission
Authors are responsible for obtaining written permission for all non-original or pre-published material. Please clearly identify any material originating from another source, and include written permission for reprinting from the original copyright holder (usually the publisher). Copies of letters to the copyright holder requesting permission will be accepted in the submission package, pending successful follow up. Please note that information originating with the U.S. Government is considered public domain and does not require permission for re-use.
Review process
Both solicited and unsolicited manuscripts undergo peer review by members of the Editorial Board and other experts in the field. Authors may be asked to revise manuscripts based on reviewer recommendations, and manuscript acceptance may depend on successful revision. After acceptance, authors will review the page proofs, including any tables and illustrations prior to publication. Authors may also be asked to clarify final questions after first proofs.
