About the journal
This journal covers genomics (the quantitative study of genes, regulatory and noncoding sequences), transcriptomics (RNA and gene expression), proteomics (protein expression), metabolomics (metabolites and metabolic networks), and glycomics (glycobiology-focused proteomics), as well as systems biology. The Journal explores advances in the era of post-genomic biology and medicine, including pharmacogenomics (the quantitative study on how genetics affects hosts' responses to drugs), and physiomics (physiological dynamics and functions of whole organisms). Integrative, quantitative, experimental, and computational approaches bring new knowledge, novel methods, and innovative technologies to engender a better understanding of complex biological systems and processes.
Instructions to Authors
OMICS A Journal of Integrative Biology seeks high quality, original-research papers dealing with all aspects of integrative biology, diverse “OMICS-es,?such as genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, pharmacogenomics, physiomics, etc., and their integration, data analysis, and modeling. OMICS A Journal of Integrative Biology is an interdisciplinary forum of postgenomic biology and medicine for networking researchers from various fields, focusing on applications to study biological problems and foster new biological knowledge. Manuscripts dealing with the ethical, legal, and social implications of the different scientific and technological aspects of integrative biology are also solicited. The Journal will also publish reviews and minireviews pertinent to integrative biology and OMICS-es, as well as meeting abstracts, summaries, commentaries, and book reviews. Address manuscripts to the Editor-in-Chief: Eugene Kolker, Ph.D., The BIATECH Institute, 19310 North Creek Parkway, Suite 115, Bothell, WA 98011. Telephone: (425) 481-4590; fax: (425) 481-5384; e-mail: ekolker@biatech.org.
Manuscript Submission and Copyright Agreement Form
The Copyright Agreement form (available from web site at http://www.liebertpub.com/media/content/transfer_of_copyright.pdf.) should be submitted once your paper has been accepted for publication. Manuscripts cannot be published without this form. The corresponding author is responsible for obtaining signatures of coauthors. Authors not permitted to release copyright must still return the form signed under the statement of the reason for not releasing the copyright. Upon acceptance of your paper, please fax the Copyright Agreement form to 914-740-2108.
Preparation of Manuscript
Manuscripts should be submitted double-spaced on 8 1/2 x 11 paper. Leave ample margins on both sides, top and bottom. Submit the original and three copies, including original illustrations, figures, and tables. Disk submission is required, and the disk must match the hard copy exactly. Disks may be submitted in either PC or Macintosh formats, preferably in Microsoft Word or WordPerfect.
We require the full mailing address and contact information (telephone, fax, and e-mail) for EACH author listed on the manuscript. Please include the address(es) either on the title page or on a separate sheet. Please also indicate the corresponding author.
Manuscripts should be organized with: (1) a title page containing the full title of the paper with the names, affiliations, and full contact information of all authors; (2) an Abstract of 200 words with key words underlined (reference citations are not permitted in the Abstract); (3) a concise, clearly worded and constructed Introduction; (4) Materials and Methods containing sufficient detail to allow for reproduction; (5) a Results section; (6) a Discussion involving interpretation of the results including their relationship to the existing body of knowledge in the field; (7) Acknowledgments; and (8) References. Standard abbreviations as defined by the Journal of Biological Chemistry are acceptable; other necessary abbreviations should be listed as a footnote to appear on the first page of the published paper. Authors should review the style and clarity of their manuscripts with colleagues before submission. Please follow the protocol described herein to avoid delay in publication. Authors should note that manuscripts may be edited if needed to ensure clear grammatical English usage. The Editor welcomes suggestions concerning potential reviewers.
Supplementary material and material too lengthy or too complex to appear in the written manuscript can be placed in the electronic appendix (contact the Publisher for details).
Tables and Illustrations
Prepare each table with its caption on a separate sheet of paper. Use Arabic numerals to number tables. Do not repeat information that is given in the text, and do not make a table for data that can be given in the text in one or two sentences.
For hard copy submission of figures, original glossy photographs for all illustrations must be supplied with the manuscript. (Photocopies cannot be used for reproduction.) DNA sequence data may be submitted as glossy photos but will be accepted as computer print-out provided a letter-quality laser printer (not a dot matrix printer) is used. If sequence data are to be included in the electronic appendix, a plain-text file of the data must be provided exactly as it should appear in the Journal. All nucleic acid sequences must be submitted in camera-ready format and will not be typeset. All illustrations should be numbered and bear the first author’s name on the back. The top of the illustration should be indicated. A legend should be supplied for each illustration and all legends numbered consecutively and typed double-spaced on a separate page. Figures should be numbered in the order cited in the text. A complete, separately collated set of figures should be submitted with each copy of the manuscript. Images should not show the name of the manufacturer. Please keep in mind that the figures will be reduced, so please do not submit large figures/graphs that contain small type, as the text within the figure will not be readable after reduction.
Illustrations may be submitted on disc. Clearly label the disc with the program used and accompany it with hard copy. Be sure the disc only contains required illustrations, each clearly identified. For e-mailing attachment files, first contact the Editor for instructions.
Electronic submission of art is acceptable with the following caveats:
?Do not include any illustrations as part of your text file. ?Do not prepare any figures in Word as they are not workable. ?Line illustrations must be submitted at 1200 DPI. ?Halftones and color photos should be submitted at a minimum of 300 DPI. ?Adobe is the preferred software. Avoid submitting PowerPoint files. ?Save art as either TIFF or EPS files. Avoid submitting JPEG files. ?Color art must be saved as CYMK, not RGB. ?Please provide a laser printout of the art to ensure accuracy.
Color Artwork: The Journal will publish color photographs, but the author must subsidize the cost of the color printing. For further details, contact the Publisher.
References
Cite the references in the text by name and date. In the reference list, list the references alphabetically in the following style. The first 6 authors must be listed; thereafter use “et al.?BR> Journal citation: DAVIDSON, B.L., ALLEN, E.D., KOZARSKY, K.F., WILSON, J.M., and ROESSLER, B.J. (1993). A model system for in vivo gene transfer into the central nervous system using an adenoviral vector. Nature Genetics 3, 219?23.
Book citation: SAMBROOK, J., FRITSCH, E.F., and MANIATIS, T. (1989). Molecular Cloning: A Laboratory Manual, 2nd ed. (Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Press, Cold Spring Harbor, New York).
When dates from an unpublished source are given, supply the researcher’s name. If work is in press, give the journal in which it is to be published or the name of the publisher. Abbreviations of journal names should follow the style of Medline.
Permissions
The author must obtain permission whenever it is required in conjunction with the reproduction of material such as figures and tables from copyrighted material. Written permission must be obtained from the publisher of the journal or book concerned. The publication from which the figure or table is taken must be listed in the reference list. Finally, a footnote of a reprinted table, or of the legend of a reprinted figure, should read, “reprinted by permission from Jones et al.?and list the appropriate reference. All permissions listings must be shown in the manuscript; they cannot be entered on proofs.
Reprints
Reprints may be ordered by using the special reprint order form that will accompany the proofs. Reprints ordered after the issue is printed will be charged at a higher rate.
