The papers relate to the broad field of electromechanics, electric machines, and power systems. Specific topics include: rotating electric machines - new methods of analysis, computation, and design: advances in materials used in electric machines (for example, permanent magnets, superconductors, etc.); solid-state control of electric machines; linear motors; new types of electric machines; electro magnetic fields in energy converters; control aspects of electric machines; power system planning; reliability and security; transmission and distribution; dispatching and scheduling; high-voltage dc systems; and power system protection. The Journal also publishes review papers, correspondence items, and book reviews.

Instructions to Authors

Three copies of the manuscript in final form should be sent with a cover letter to J. Cathey, University of Kentucky, ECE Department, 453C Anderson Hall, Lexington, KY 40506-0046, USA. Authors are strongly encouraged to submit manuscripts on disk. The disk should be prepared using LaTex (for author template, click here), MS Word, or WordPerfect and should be clearly labeled with the authors' names, file name, and software program. A hardcopy printout that exactly matches the disk must be supplied. Each manuscript must be accompanied by a statement that it has not been published elsewhere and that it has not been submitted simultaneously for publication elsewhere. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted material from other sources and are required to sign an agreement for the transfer of copyright to the publisher. All accepted manuscripts, artwork, and photographs become the property of the publisher. All parts of the manuscript should be typewritten, double-spaced, with margins of at least one inch on all sides. Number manuscript pages consecutively throughout the paper. Authors should also supply a shortened version of the title suitable for the running head, not exceeding 50 character spaces. Each article should be summarized in an abstract of no more than 100 words. Avoid abbreviations, diagrams, and reference to the text. Further instructions and an author template can be obtained from the journal's web page at www.taylorandfrancis.com. LaTex macros can be re-quested from the Editor-in-Chief at the above-listed address.

Illustrations

Illustrations submitted (line drawings, halftones, photos, photomicrographs, etc.) should be clean originals or digital files. Digital files are recommended for highest quality reproduction and should follow these guidelines:

  • 300 dpi or higher
  • sized to fit on journal page
  • EPS, TIFF, or PSD format only
  • submitted as separate files, not embedded in text files

Color illustrations will be considered for publication; however, the author will be required to bear the full cost involved in their printing and publication. The charge for the first figure is $1,200. Subsequent figures, totaling no more than 4 text pages, are $500.00 each. Good-quality color prints should be provided, in their final size. Figures needing reduction or enlargement will be charged an additional 25 percent. The publisher has the right to refuse publication of any artwork deemed unacceptable. Be sure that every figure has a brief descriptive legend and that every table has a concise title.

Tables and Figures

Tables and figures should not be embedded in the text, but should be included as separate sheets or files. A short descriptive title should appear above each table with a clear legend, and any footnotes suitably identified below. All units must be included. Figures should be completely labeled, taking into account necessary size reduction. Captions should be typed, double-spaced, on a separate sheet. All original figures should be clearly marked in pencil on the reverse side with the number, author's name, and top edge indicated.

References

References should be grouped into a section at the end of the paper and numbered in the order in which they are referred to in the text, following this format:
[1] D. C. White and H. H. Woodson, Electromechanical Energy Conversion, New York: John Wiley & Sons, 1959, pp. 100-108.
[2] J. A. Rich and G. A. Farrall, "Vacuum are recovery phenomena," Proc. IEEE, vol. 52, pp. 1293-1301, November 1964.
References to unpublished work or to work not properly indexed should not be used.

Proofs

All proofs must be corrected and returned to the publisher within 48 hours of receipt. If the manuscript is not returned within the allotted time, the editor will proofread the article and it will be printed per the editor's instructions. Only correction of typographical errors is permitted. The author will be charged for additional alterations to text at the proof stage.

Reprints

The corresponding author of each paper will receive 50 complimentary offprints of his/her article and 1 complimentary copy of the issue in which the paper appears. Additional reprints of the paper may be purchased from the publisher. A reprint order form is supplied when the paper is returned for final typing; if you would like to order reprints, return the form to the Editor-in-Chief with the final manuscript.
