Instructions to Authors
Information for Authors
Cardiovascular Toxicology publishes manuscripts that describe molecular mechanisms and signal pathways of cardiovascular toxicity, cardiovascular effects of environmental toxicants and pollutants, new methods for the measurement of, and novel approaches to, cardiovascular toxicity, safety data of detrimental effects of new cardiovascular drugs and gene therapy, and the cardiovascular toxicity of non-cardiovascular drugs and therapies. The journal is organized to publish articles in the following categories:
¨C Original Research (basic, applied and clinical)
¨C Commentary
¨C Reviews
¨C Short Notes
¨C Forum
¨C Book Reviews
¨C Editorials
¨C Letters to Editor
Submissions may be made online using Springer's Editorial Manager electronic submission site at http://cato.edmgr.com. First-time users will need to Register before submitting a manuscript. Manuscripts are received for review with the understanding that the same work has not been and, if accepted by Cardiovascular Toxicology, will not be published elsewhere nor is presently submitted elsewhere; and that its submission for publication has been approved by all of the authors as well as by the institution where the work was performed.

Copyright
All manuscripts submitted must be accompanied by a copyright transfer agreement, assigning world copyright to Humana Press. Copyright form available from Editor. All manuscripts submitted must be accompanied by a signed statement indicating that the article is original, is not under consideration, has not been published previously elsewhere, and that its content has not ben anticipated by any previous publication.

Style of Manuscripts
. Manuscripts should be as concise as possible, yet sufficiently detailed to permit critical appraisal, and should generally not exceed 40 typed pages (including tables, charts and references).
. Type manuscript in English, double-spaced on one side of consecutively numbered pages with 1 to 1.5 inch margins. Include an electronic disk version in a Microsoft Word (97 or above) document on a PC or Apple Macintosh formatted disk.
. Be sure to include an electronic disk version of your manuscript in a word prcessing format, preferably in a Microsoft Word document. Manuscripts and electronic version must match.
. The first page of the manuscript should contain the complete title of the paper, names of authors (without degrees), affiliations (including zip codes), and a running title consisting of no more than 40 characters (including spaces). The first page also includes the name, complete address, zip code, telephone and fax numbers, and e-mail address of the author to whom ALL correspondence should be sent (corresponding author).
. The Title should be limited to 120 characters, including spaces between words and punctuation. The use of abbreviations in the title should generally be avoided. Research articles should be divided into an Abstract, Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, and Discussion sections in the order described below.
. Abstract should be limited to 200 words, containing a concise summary of what was done, the results obtained, and valid conclusions. The abstract should be followed by a list of 5¨C10 key words.
. Introduction states why the investigation was carried out, note any relevant publication work, and delineate the objective of the work. Extensive literature review should be avoided.
. Materials and Methods should contain detailed description of new methods and significant improvement of methods or changes in old methods. Methods for which an adequate reference can be cited are not to be described.
. Results concisely describe (1) what was done, (2) how it was done (experimental procedure but not duplicating the method description), (3) how the data were analyzed, and (4) validation of the data.
. Discussion must relate the significance of the work to existing knowledge in the field and indicate the importance of the contribution of this study. Recapitulation of the results must be avoided and unsupported hypotheses and speculation are not encouraged.
. Acknowledgments should be typed on a separate page and placed at the end of the text pages.
. Footnotes in the text should be identified by superscripts consisting of Arabic numerals and should be typed on a separate sheet.

Artwork
. Illustrations: All Illustrations/Figures should be cited consecutively by Arabic numerals in the text. Include figure captions on a separate, numbered manuscript sheet. Legends should contain sufficient experimental detail to permit the figures to be interpreted without reference to the text. Cites should be clearly indicated in the figures themselves. Send only original computer files, photo prints, or photomicrographs. Computer-generated photographics of all types, including micrographs, are welcome. When authors use applications software to manipulate images for improvement of color, sharpness, and contrast the Materials and Methods section should include the nature of these manipulations. It is expected that images from experimental and and control groups will be manipulated identically, unless stated otherwise. Photo-, laser-, or electron-micrographs of experimental subjects must contain magnification bars; stating the original magnification¡± is not acceptable. Efforts will be made to place the figure as close as possible to the first text citation. Define all symbols and abbreviations used in the figure. All illustrations, including chemical structures, must be provided in professional-quality, finished form ready for direct reproduction without revision by us. Photographs should be glossy prints of high quality and with strong contrasts. Additional specifications apply regarding Computer Graphics and Color Art.
. Computer Graphics: If your submission includes Computer Graphics, acceptable software formats are: Adboe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop versions 5 and up. File formats are as follows: EPS (encapsulated postscript), TIF, JPEG (low-compression/high-quality), and those native software formates listed above. Unfortunately, we cannot accept Microsoft PowerPoint files at this time. All computer graphic file submissions must be accompanied by a hard copy printout. All computer figures and printouts must match. Line art should be no less than 1200 dpi; halftone scans should be 300 dpi.
. Color Art: Color art cannot be accepted unless the author is willing to assume the additional costs involved in production (quotes given on request). All color art must adhere to the guidelines under Computer Graphics. Color art must be prepared in CMYK color mode.

Tables
Tables should be numbered with Roman numerals and cited consecutively in the text. Each table should be titled and double-spaced on a separate sheet. The title of each table should clearly indicate the nature of the contents, and sufficient experimental detail should be included in footnotes to the entries in the table to permit the reader to interpret the results without reference to the text. Units must be clearly indicated for each of the entries in the table. Footnotes in the tables should be identified by superscript lowercase letters a, b, c, etc., and placed at the bottom of the table.

References
Citations should be used to provide appropriate attribution and credit to previous investigators. Extensive citation should be avoided, if possible, while adhering to the applicable conventions of the scientific community. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce tables and artwork from the appropriate sources cited in the text. References should be arranged numerically at the end of the manuscript and cited in the text with Arabic numerals in parentheses, set on the text line. The references should be numbered consecutively in order of their citation. The number of citations should be limited to 40.
