About the journal

Environmental Forensics provides a forum for scientific investigations that address environmental contamination which is subject to law court, arbitration, public debate, or formal argumentation and is subject to the basic science that serves as underpinnings to those activities. Journal subject matter encompasses all aspects of contamination within the environmental media of air, water, soil and biota. The journal is an international, quarterly, peer-reviewed publication offering scientific studies that explore source, fate, transport, and human health and ecological effects of environmental contamination. Contamination is delineated in terms of chemical characterization, biological influence, responsible parties and legal consequences. Manuscripts dealing with a wide range of environmental issues and how they relate to the characterization and tracking of contamination will be accepted. Journal focus is on scientific and technical information, data, and critical analysis in the following areas;

  • Analytical Chemistry, including analytical techniques that provide definitive, quality results for analyses that are conducted to answer litigious environmental contamination questions
  • Geochemistry, including chemistry and physics of soil, water and air with respect to potential interactions with contamination
  • Atmospheric Chemistry, including occurrence, alteration, fate, transport and modeling of chemicals in the atmosphere
  • Microbiology, including all aspects of microbe-related transformation and alteration of contamination constituents
  • Environmental Fate Assessment, including partitioning and transformation of contaminant components between and within environmental media
  • Environmental Transport Assessment, including geologic, hydrogeologic, oceanographic and meteorologic controls on the migration or movement of contamination
  • Integrated Case Studies, employing environmental fate techniques described herein
  • Legal Considerations, including strategic considerations for environmental fate in litigation and arbitration, and regulatory statutes and actions

Instructions to Authors

Submission of Manuscripts

An electronic version only should be submitted to Mary K. Donohue, 20 Wyndemere Road, Bloomfield, CT 06002, USA; Email: mkdonohue@attbi.com. The disk or file should be prepared using MS Word and should be clearly labeled with the authors¡¯ names, file name, and software program. Each disk or file must be accompanied by a statement that it has not been published elsewhere and that it has not been submitted simultaneously for publication elsewhere. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted material from other sources and are required to sign an agreement for the transfer of copyright to the publisher. A completed and duly signed form should accompany the manuscript at the time of submission. All accepted manuscripts, artwork, and photographs become the property of the publisher.

All parts of the manuscript should be typewritten, double-spaced, with margins of at least one inch on all sides. Number manuscript pages consecutively throughout the paper. Authors should supply a short version of the title suitable for the running head, not exceeding 50 character spaces. Each article should be summarized in an abstract of no more that 200 words. Avoid abbreviations, diagrams, and reference to the text within the abstract. Four to five pertinent keywords should also be provided. Further instructions and an author template can be obtained from the journal¡¯s web page at www.taylorandfrancis.com.

References

Include only references to books, articles, and reports actually cited in text. All refererences must follow the Chicago Manual of Style - Author/Date System Documentation 2. References in the text should cite the author¡¯s last name, year of publication, and page (where appropriate); thus (Field and Burdge 1972, 85) or (Burch 1972). All references should appear at the end of the manuscript in alphabetical order. Examples:

Journal Article:
Bullard, R. D., and B. H. Wright. 1990. The quest for environmental equity: Mobilizing the African-American community for social change. Society & Natural Resources 3: 301-311.

Chapter in Book:
Helleiner, O. 1967. The population changes of Europe from the Black Death. In The Cambridge economic history of Europe, vol. 4, eds. E. E. Rich and C. H. Wilson, 1-200. London and New York: Cambridge University Press.

Report:
USEPA (U. S. Environmental Protection Agency). 1983. Health Assessment Document for Acrylonirile. Office of Health and Environmental Assessment, Washington, DC. EPA-600/ 8-82-007F. Final Report, October 1983.

Illustrations

Illustrations submitted (line drawings, halftones, photos, photomicrographs, etc.) should be clean originals or digital files. Digital files are recommended for highest quality reproduction and should follow these guidelines:

  • 300 dpi or higher
  • sized to fit on journal page
  • EPS, TIFF, or PSD format only
  • submitted as separate files, not embedded in text files

Color illustrations will be considered for publication; however, the author will be required to bear the full cost involved in their printing and publication. The charge for the first figure is $1,200. Subsequent figures, totaling no more than 4 text pages, are $500.00 each. Good quality color prints should be provided, in their final size. Figures needing reduction or enlargement will be charged an additional 25 percent. The publisher has the right to refuse publication of any prints deemed unacceptable.

Tables and Figures

Tables and figures should not be embedded in the text, but should be included as separate sheets or files. A short descriptive title should appear above each table with a clear legend, and any footnotes suitably identified below. All units must be included. Figures should be completely labeled, taking into account necessary size reduction. Figure legends should be typed, double-spaced, on a separate sheet. All original figures should be clearly marked in pencil on the reverse side with the number, author¡¯s name, and top edge indicated.

Formulas and Equations

Empirical and structural formulas and mathematical and chemical equations should be arranged to fit in the width of a single column. Subscripts and superscripts should be written with care and exponents should be set up on a single line. All signs such as + - = < > should be spaced, but the components of mathematical products should not be spaced.

Offprints

An offprint order form will accompany proofs. It should be completed and returned with proofs. Corresponding authors will receive one complimentary copy of the issue.
