About the journal

The Journal of the Renin-Angiotensin-Aldosterone System (JRAAS) provides the only scientific journal devoted exclusively to these developments. It includes:
- Original research on these peptide systems
- Clinical research reports on the blockade of the RAAS as well as new developments such as vasopeptidase inhibition
- Results of clinical trials of drugs inhibiting the systems in the treatment of hypertension, renal disease, heart failure, post-myocardial infarction and diabetes as well as new areas of clinical research into the possible value of these agents in new indications such as maintenance of cognitive function
- Reviews and editorials by invited authors providing authoritative discussions of the implications of research in this exciting field.
In the last decade the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) and other peptidergic systems, such as atrial natriuretic peptides and endothelin, have become an increasingly important focus of basic cardiovascular research. At the same time, landmark clinical studies have demonstrated that inhibition of these systems significantly reduces morbidity and mortality from a wide spectrum of cardiovascular diseases including myocardial infarction, heart failure and diabetes. As a result of these studies, research in the laboratory and clinic is rapidly exploring the significance of these systems in cardiovascular and non-cardiovascular diseases. Meanwhile, a major effort to find new strategies for blocking the RAAS is producing new classes of drugs which are expected to be clinically important in the management of hypertension and heart failure as well as the prevention of end organ damage and perhaps even some of the diseases of ageing, such as loss of cognitive function.
Instructions to Authors
All papers submitted to JRAAS are subject to peer review. The editors guarantee, wherever possible, that any papers considered appropriate for rapid publication will be reviewed within six weeks of submission. Subsequently, publication within 12 weeks will be guaranteed following acceptance of the final paper.
The Journal of the Renin-Angiotensin-Aldosterone System (JRAAS) is pleased to consider original papers, review articles and letters for publication. All material is assumed to be exclusively submitted to JRAAS unless otherwise stated in writing.
Types of manuscripts Review articles provide in-depth surveys of recent advances in a field. Suggestions for review articles should be provided in the form of a one page synopsis or discussed with the editors prior to submission. Original articles may appear as full length reports (approximately 5000 words excluding references and figure legends) or short communication (approximately 1500 words) which report preliminary data from original work. Letters are encouraged to provide comments on previously published papers or on important or novel aspects of research in the field.
Manuscripts Three copies of manuscripts, with text double-spaced, should be submitted and a copy of the file on disk where manuscripts have been prepared on computer.
Review manuscripts should include an abstract (up to 400 words) and keywords.
Original manuscripts should include: Title page Abstract (up to 400 words, see below) plus keywords Introduction Materials and methods Results Discussion Conclusions References (Vancouver style) Tables Figures Acknowledgements
Abstracts for original manuscripts should be in the format: Hypothesis / Introduction Materials and methods Results Conclusions
Abstracts will be published on the JRAAS website and Index Medicus/MEDLINE.
Computer disks Authors should supply the names of all the files on disk. Additional information should include: the class of computer (IBM compatible, Apple Macintosh) and the name of the programme used. All computer disks submitted will be returned. In the case of word processed articles, one file saved as normal and one saved in ASCII (flat text) format should be supplied. The document should be typed single spaced with one carriage return only between paragraphs and with single spaces after punctuation marks. Spreadsheet or database files should also be supplied in both normal and ASCII format.
Illustrations, artwork and photographs Illustrations should preferably be supplied on disk as either eps, tiff or jpeg files along with the original file they were created in. Alternatively, good quality transparencies, prints, or printouts should be submitted. Each illustration should be on a separate page with legend clearly indicated. Where possible, in particular in the case of graphs and charts, a copy of the source figures should be supplied on paper or disk. Do not write directly onto the reverse of photographs. The author's name and the figure number should be affixed by label and the top of the picture clearly indicated. The legend should be supplied separately on a sheet of paper bearing the relevant figure number, author's name and title of the article. Avoid the use of paper clips with prints as they may scratch the emulsion surface. All submissions containing disk, artwork and illustrations should be supplied in a stiffened envelope.
Submission Manuscripts can be sent to: Mrs Helen McDonnell JRAAS Limited Edgbaston House 3 Duchess Place Edgbaston Birmingham B16 8NH UK Telephone: +44 121 454 4114 Facsimile: +44 121 454 1190
E-mail The Journal can be reached at the E-mail address: production@jraas.co.uk Communication should contain the full postal address of the sender, and a clear indication as to whether the correspondence is to be considered for publication. Acknowledgement of receipt will be sent by E-mail.
Selection of manuscript for publication Manuscripts are selected for publication according to reports from two or three independent referees. All manuscripts are acknowledged on receipt. The editors guarantee that any papers considered appropriate for rapid publication will be reviewed within six weeks of submission. Subsequently, publication will generally occur within 12 weeks following acceptance of the final paper.
Authors' corrections Page proofs of successfully selected manuscripts will be sent to authors. Corrections should be limited to typographical amendments. Authors' approval will be assumed if corrections are not returned by the date indicated.
