About the journal

 Positivity

Positivity publishes papers on analysis having a clear link to the general theme of positivity. Papers covering applications of such mathematics to other disciplines will also be considered for publication. It is anticipated that, subject to the overriding condition of having a link with positivity, mathematical topics will include but will not be restricted to:

  • Ordered topological vector spaces and operators on them (including their spectral theory, operator equations, ergodic theory, approximation theory and interpolation theory).
  • Banach spaces, their geometry, unconditional structure and asymptotic theory.
  • C* and other operator algebras, especially non-commutative order theory.
  • Partial differential equations and positive semigroup theory.
  • Measure theory, Boolean algebras and stochastic processes.
  • Potential theory, harmonic analysis, positive harmonic functions and diffusion.
  • Variational analysis and variational inequalities.
  • Optimization and optimal control theory.
  • Convex functions and convex analysis.
  • Non-standard analysis and Boolean valued models.
  •

Applications will be to areas including economics, engineering, life sciences, physics and statistical decision theory but no subject area is excluded a priori.

    Instructions to Authors

For the purpose of refereeing, papers for publication should be initially submitted in hard copy (4-fold) to:

    The Journals Editorial Office
    Positivity
    Kluwer Academic Publishers
    P.O. Box 990
    3300 AZ Dordrecht
    The Netherlands

Kluwer Academic Publishers request the submission of manuscripts and figures in electronic form. The preferred storage medium for your electronic manuscript is a 3 1/2 inch diskette in MS DOS format, although other systems (e.g. Apple Macintosh) are welcome. Please label your diskette properly, giving exact details on the name of the file(s), the operating system and software used. It is important that you supply us with the latest version of your manuscript. For safety¡®s sake, you should always make a backup copy of your file(s) and retain this. After final acceptance, the final printed version of your paper and the diskette should be submitted to: The Journals Editorial Office, Positivity, Kluwer Academic Publishers, P.O. Box 990, 3300 AZ Dordrecht, The Netherlands.

If you submit your electronic manuscript in a wordprocessor format, it is important that you save your electronic manuscript in the wordprocessor format that you use. Please mention the name of the wordprocessor on the label of the diskette. In general, use as few formatting codes as possible. For more detailed information on the style of your article, we kindly refer you to the Instructions for Authors of this journal. These instructions are published in every last issue of a volume.

Positivity prefers the submission of papers in LaTeX, however papers submitted in AMSTeX, LAMSTeX, RevTeX, Scientific Word/Workplace, etc. can also be accepted. For submission in LaTeX, Kluwer Academic Publishers have developed a special preprint LaTeX style file which is used for all Kluwer journals, irrespective of the publication¡®s size or layout. The specific journal characteristics are added later during the production process.

The eventual supply of accepted-for-publication papers in their final form on MS DOS or Apple Macintosh diskettes in LaTeX together with the hard copy version (in case anything needs to be checked) will ensure more rapid publication.

Obtaining the Kluwer LaTeX Style File and Instructions

The LaTeX style file KLUWER.STY is offered at a number of servers around the world. Unfortunately, these copies are often unauthorised and authors are strongly advised not to use them. Kluwer Academic Publishers can only guarantee the integrity of style files obtained directly from us. Although KLUWER.STY is very similar to the ARTICLE.STY, there are some differences. These are explained in the accompanying instruction file KAPINS.TEX. Authors can obtain KLUWER.STY and the instruction file from http://www.wkap.nl/authors/jrnlstylefiles/
Technical support on the usage of the style file(s) is given via the e-mail number texhelp@wkap.nl.

    Form of Manuscript

Manuscripts should be typewritten on A4 or US Letter bond paper, one side only, leaving enough margin on all sides to permit remarks by the reviewers. Please double-space all materials, including footnotes, endnotes, and references. Number the pages consecutively with the first page containing the title, the authors, the affiliation, a short abstract of 100 to 250 words, the Mathematics Subject Classifications (1991), and five to ten key words in alphabetical order. Since the abstract and the key words will be used to select appropriate reviewers, it is essential to make them as informative as possible. The eventual supply of accepted-for-publication papers in their final form on MS-DOS or Apple Macintosh diskettes in LaTeX together with a hard copy version (in case anything needs to be checked) will ensure more rapid publication.

    Illustrations

Kluwer Academic Publishers request electronic submission of figures. Preferred file formats are TIFF (Tagged Image File Format) and Encapsulated PostScript (resolution between 300 and 600 dpi), but figures in other electronic formats may also be used. File names should not be longer than 8 characters. A printout of ALL figures should be supplied with the hard copy manuscript.

Submit only clear reproductions of artwork. Authors should retain original artwork until a manuscript has been accepted in its final version. All figures must be in a form suitable for reproduction (reduction). Original ink drawings or laserprinter output reproduce best, but if they are not available, same-sized glossies or matt photostats are acceptable.
Photographs should be in black and white on glossy paper. Computer prints are acceptable for figures only if they are done on a high quality laserprinter.

    Figures and Tables

Each figure and table should be mentioned in the text and should be numbered consecutively using Arabic numbers in order of appearance in the text for figures, and Roman numbers for Tables. On the reverse side of each figure, write in pencil the name of the (first) author and the figure number.

    Section Headings

    Headings should be as follows.

    • first level headings -- Initial Capital Letters
    • second level headings -- ALL CAPITAL LETTERS
    • third level headings -- Initial Capital Letters
    • fourth level headings -- Initial Capital Letters

    Footnotes

Footnotes should be kept to an absolute minimum. Please use footnotes only. Do not use endnotes. Be sure you do not mix footnote text and Bibliographic information. Bibliographic information should be listed in a separate Reference (see Reference section for more information). Footnotes should be indicated by consecutive superscript asterisks in the text. In tables, footnotes are preferable to long explanatory material in either the heading or body of the table. Such explanatory footnotes, identified by superscript letters, should be placed immediately below the table.

    Cross-referencing

Please make optimal use of the cross-referencing features of your software package. Do not cross-reference page numbers. Cross-references should refer to:

    • section number of a heading
    • the number of a displayed equation
    • the number of a table
    • the number of a figure
    • the number of an enunciation
    • the number of a reference entry

    References

References should be listed in numbered order. References to books should comprise name(s) and initial(s) of author(s), full title of book, publisher, place of publication and year of publication, e.g.

No page charges are levied on authors or their institutions. Color illustrations are published at the author¡®s expense only.

    Copyright

Copyright will be established in the name of Kluwer Academic Publishers.

    Statement of Exclusive Submission

The first page should include the following statement: This paper has not been submitted elsewhere in identical or similar form, nor will it be during the first three months after its submission to Positivity.

    Permissions

It is the responsibility of the author to obtain written permission for a quotation from unpublished material, or for all quotations in excess of 250 words in one extract or 500 words in total from any work still in copyright, and for the reprinting of illustrations or tables or poems from unpublished or copyrighted material.
