Instructions to Authors
1. PREPARATION AND SUBMISSION OF TYPESCRIPTS
The paper should be typed on one side only with double spacing on A4 (297 x 210 mm) paper or its nearest equivalent with a minimum left hand margin of 2.5 cm. Pages must be in numbered sequence. A short abstract of 220 words or less that concisely outlines the substance of the paper and states its principal conclusions should accompany each typescript, on a separate sheet. The journal adopts a guideline of 10,000 words of text for an article, excluding endnotes, but does not encourage lengthy endnotes.
All contributions should be sent to Mr. John Eekelaar, Pembroke College, Oxford OX1 1DW, UK.
Alternatively manuscripts can be submitted by email to john.eekelaar@law.ox.ac.uk following the formatting specifications above.
If submitting in hard copy please submit three copies of each typescript. Typescripts will not be returned unless special arrangements have been made to this effect.
Articles submitted for publication must not be under consideration for publication elsewhere.
2. REFERENCES
Literature references in the text should state the author's name followed by the year of publication. The full citation should appear in alphabetical order of author in a Reference section at the conclusion of the article and should consist of the author's name and initials, year, title of paper (or book), title of journal, volume, and initial and terminal page numbers (or, in the case of books, place of publication, name of publisher, and page or chapter numbers).
If you use Reference Manager to facilitate referencing citations (not required for submission), this journal's style is available for use.
Reference to legal materials (for example, legislation, case names, or law reports or code references) may be made by sequential numbering at the relevant point in the text, the full citations being listed numerically in a Notes section preceding the Reference section at the conclusion of the article. The mode of citation of legal material employed by the system of origin of the article will be acceptable.
3. TABLES AND ILLUSTRATIONS
Tables should be typed, without vertical lines, on a separate sheet and the approximate position in the text indicated by a marginal note. Original graphs and line drawings must be submitted in a form ready for the printer. Diagrams must be drawn in black ink on a white or faint blue lined background. Care should be taken that lettering and detail is large enough to withstand the necessary reduction in size. Each illustration should be labelled in pencil on the back with the figure number, the author's name and the short title of the paper, and packed flat. Legends should be typed on a separate sheet.
Please ensure that the prepared electronic image files print at a legible size and are of a high quality for publication. For useful information on preparing your figures for publication, go to http://cpc.cadmus.com/da. You can also see our figure guidelines.
4. SUBMISSION OF MATERIALS FOR REVIEW
Materials for review should be sent to Mr. Jonathan Herring, Exeter College, Oxford OX1 3DP
5. LANGUAGE EDITING
OUP offers pre-submission language editing through Oxford Language Editing, a service for researchers all over the world. Language editing, particularly if English is not your first language, can be used to ensure that the academic content of your paper is fully understood by the journal editors and reviewers. Visit www.oxfordlanguageediting.com to find out more about the freelance editors available and the different services offered. Please note that edited manuscripts will still need to undergo peer-review by the journal.
6. COPYRIGHT
Upon receipt of accepted manuscripts at Oxford Journals authors will be invited to complete an online copyright licence to publish form.

It is a condition of publication in the Journal that authors assign copyright to Oxford University Press. This ensures that requests from third parties to reproduce articles are handled efficiently and consistently and will also allow the article to be as widely disseminated as possible. In assigning copyright, authors may use their own material in other publications provided that the Journal is acknowledged as the original place of publication, and Oxford University Press is notified in writing and in advance.
