About the journal

Aims & Scope

The European Early Childhood Education Research Journal (EECERJ) is the publication of the European Early Childhood Education Research Association (EECERA), an international organisation dedicated to the promotion and dissemination of research in Early Childhood Education throughout Europe and beyond. CREC is the UK base for the European Early Childhood Research Association.

EECERA welcomes and encourages membership and contributions from across the world to share and participate in its European perspective. EECERJ aims to provide a forum for the publication of original research in early childhood education in Europe. With this as its principal focus, it should be emphasised that its definition of education embraces care and that its approach is multidisciplinary, embracing all related fields including psychology, sociology, child health and social work. Contributions from outside the European context are encouraged where there is a relevance to the EECERA's stated aims. ‘Early Childhood' is defined as being from birth to eight years of age. The Editorial Board intends to publish papers which have a clear application to early childhood education and care policy and practice and this must be made explicit in the paper. It also seeks to provide a common forum for shared issues in early childhood education research, and, on occasion, to provide a forum for controversy in the discussion of such issues. Papers may take the form of reports of research in progress, discussion of conceptual and methodological issues and review articles. All papers are peer reviewed. The Journal is published three times per year. Papers are either selected from those presented as key notes at the EECERA Annual Conference or can be submitted directly to the Coordinating Editor.

European Early Childhood Education Research Association Membership rates include a subscription to European Early Childhood Research Journal. To become a member please complete the membership form for 2009.

Instructions to Authors

The Journal of the European Early Childhood Education Research Association

All submissions should be made online at European Early Childhood Education Research Journal Manuscript Central site. New users should first create an account. Once a user is logged onto the site submissions should be made via the Author Centre.

Authors should prepare and upload two versions of their manuscript. One should be a complete text, while in the second all document information identifying the author should be removed from files to allow them to be sent anonymously to referees. When uploading files authors will then be able to define the non-anonymous version as “File not for review?

Articles submitted to European Early Childhood Education Research Journal should not be under consideration by any other journal, or have been published elsewhere, and the letter accompanying the submission of any manuscript should contain a clear statement to this effect.

Articles should be original, normally around 2500-5000 words in length, and written in a clear, straightforward style, avoiding technical jargon wherever possible.

Typescripts should be double spaced with a margin to the left. Please include the following information on the cover page of the manuscript: name(s) of author(s), address where work was carried out. An abstract/summary of around 100-150 words should be supplied on a separate page.

To allow for anonymous refereeing, all submissions must be properly formatted for blind reviewing and authors' names and institutions should only appear on a separate page that accompanies the manuscript.

Electronic Submissions. We prefer to receive manuscripts produced with Microsoft Word in a PC format, but can translate from most other common word processing programs as well as Macs. Do not save your files as "text only" or "read only".

Footnotes should be avoided. Subheadings should be used, particularly in longer articles.

Figures or artwork should be supplied in a finished form, suitable for reproduction, as these cannot be redrawn by the publishers. All pages should be numbered. The full address (including email) of the author who will check proofs and receive correspondence should also be included.
