About the journal
Circulation Journal: A new title for a new direction
The Japanese Circulation Journal has been an official journal of the Japanese Circulation Society since 1935. It is now the beginning of the 21st century and the world is changing dramatically, with scientific information becoming international and readily available via the Internet. In recent years, the number of the manuscripts submitted to the Journal has been increasing, and more papers from authors outside Japan are being received. The peer review and publishing process of the Journal has been refined, which has markedly shortened the time from acceptance to publication so that it is now approximately 80 days. Taking into consideration all these changes that are having an impact on the Journal, the Editor and the Editorial Board of the Society have chosen a new title, Circulation Journal, to better reflect its international focus.
With the change in title comes a new cover on which a selected color figure will appear each month. To encourage authors to submit more color figures, the cost of reproduction has been reduced to one fourth! More color pages will make the Journal more attractive and informative.
The impact factor of the Journal is gradually increasing, but still does not reflect the quality of the manuscripts published in the Journal. A journal?s impact factor is based on two elements: the number of citations of the Journal in the previous 2 years, and the number of substantive manuscripts published by the Journal in the same time period (CMAJ 1999; 161: 979 ? 980). On behalf of the Editorial Board, I will endeavor to increase the number of citations of the Circulation Journal.
The Editorial board now has 18 international advisory board members from USA, Europe and Asia, and the Board strongly believe that now is the time to change the title so that it corresponds to the journal?s evolution into an international publication.
