About MIA
Media International Australia incorporating Culture and Policy publishes new scholarly and applied research on the media, telecommunications, and the cultural industries, and the policy regimes within which they operate.
MIA was founded by Professor Henry Mayer in 1976. It was published by the Australian Film, Television and Radio School until 1997, when it moved to the Centre for Cultural and Media Policy at Griffith University. At that time, it was merged with the Centre's journal, Culture and Policy. From 2004, it became a publication of the School of EMSAH and the Centre for Critical and Cultural Studies, at The University of Queensland. In 2005 the Henry Mayer Lecture was established in memory of the journal's founder.
Broadly inclusive and inter-disciplinary, the journal welcomes the writing of history, theory and analysis, commentary and debate. While its primary focus is Australia, the journal also aims to provide an international perspective.
MIA receives review copies of recent publications from a number of publishers, and these can be made available to reviewers who will undertake to produce the review within the stated time. For more information and a list of available titles, see the Books Available for Review page.
MIA is published by the School of English, Media Studies and Art History, in association with the Centre for Critical and Cultural Studies, The University of Queensland.
The journal is available through subscription, for individual purchase or through membership of the Australian and New Zealand Communication Association. Back issues of MIA are available to certain organisations as donations. Read about it here.

Instructions to Authors
How to Submit an Article
The journal welcomes the submission of academic and non-academic articles. All manuscripts should be submitted as a standard Word document (not Word 2007¡ªif necessary, save down to an earlier version of Word) to MIA's production editor, Susan Jarvis, at S.Jarvis@griffith.edu.au, with a separate file containing author's biographical details. No hard copies are required.
Please refer to the Style Guide before submitting an article. The style guide is also available in PDF format for downloading. Consult our Frequently Asked Questions page for more details.
Submission of an article, commentary or review to MIA is taken to imply that it has not previously been published, and is not being considered for publication elsewhere.
Reviews
MIA also receives review copies of recent publications. The policy is to publish many short reviews of two types:
Booknotes¡ªmust concisely assess and summarise the book, maximum length 200 words;
Reviews¡ªmust critically analyse the style and the major issues dealt with in the book, maximum length 500 words.
Reviewers are typically members of the academic community, including postgraduates. We also encourage our colleagues in industry to contribute to this part of the journal. Click here for a list of books currently available for review.
If you are interested in reviewing any of these books, please contact the Book Review Editor, Kitty van Vuuren, k.vanvuuren@uq.edu.au.
