About the journal
The European Journal of Histochemistry was established in 1954 as Rivista di Istochimica Normale e Patologica. It is official organ of the Italian Society of Histochemistry and member of the journal subcommittee of IFSHC.
The EUROPEAN JOURNAL OF HISTOCHEMISTRY was founded in 1954 by Maffo Vialli and published till 1979 under the title “Rivista di Istochimica Normale e Patologica? from 1980 to 1990 as “Basic and Applied Histochemistry? and in 1991 as “European Journal of Basic and Applied Histochemistry?
Instructions to Authors
Notice to authors The European Journal of Histochemistry publishes Original papers, Brief notes, Technical reports, Letters to the Editor, Minireviews, Editorials, Book reviews, Views and Comments and Announcements. Contributions are encouraged from investigators in any country.
Text The text of papers should be typewritten and double spaced throughout. It is strongly encouraged to send papers as attachments to email messages at this e-mail address: office@ejh.it. Otherwise, three complete copies of the text, figures and tables should be sent to the following address: European Journal of Histochemistry, Editorial Office, piazza Botta, 10, 27100 Pavia (Italy). Phone: +39.0382.506420. Fax +39.0382.506325.
Manuscript format For Original papers, Brief notes, and Technical reports, each manuscript should be preceded by: a) a title page containing the following information: Title of the paper; Initials of the name and full surname of author(s); Full name and address of the Institution(s) where the work was done; Complete address (phone and fax numbers, and E-mail address) of the corresponding author; Key words (not more than seven); b) a page consisting, of an analytically informative Summary. The text should normally be subdivided into: Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion and References. In the Introduction, which should be concise, the purpose of the research must be clearly explained. Materials and Methods should report all information useful for repetition of the experiments. Generic and specific names should be underlined or typed in italics. When chemicals are quoted, well defined, registered names should be used following the subject index of chemical abstracts. When the text refers to enzymes, the trivial names should be given as published in Enzyme nomenclature by Academic Press, 1984. Units of measurements should be those recommended by the International Committee for the Standardization of Units of Measurements, please check this site for Uniform Requirements. Results should include the presentation of all experimental data. The description of the original observations must be concise, avoiding the use of both tables and graphs to illustrate the same results. The author(s) should indicate in the manuscript the points where illustrations and tables are to be inserted. An adequate statistical analysis of quantitative data should be provided. General considerations and conclusions should be reported only in the Discussion. Acknowledgements will be placed at the end of the text, before the References, which should be arranged in alphabetical order, as follows:
- Artico M, Cavallotti C, Iannetti G, Cavallotti D. Effect of interleukin 1?on rat thymus microenvironment. Eur J Histochem 2001; 45:357-66.
- Beridze T. Satellite DNA. Springer-Verlag, Berlin, 1982.
- Mc C DJ, Orrenius S. Cellular signaling in thymocyte apoptosis. In: Tomei LD, Cope FO, eds. Apoptosis: The Molecular Basis of Cell Death. Curr Comm Cell and Mol Biol, vol. 3. Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Press, New York, 1991, pp. 227-46.
Paper listed under the same author must be in chronological order; in the case of more than one work published in the same year, a suffix (a, b, c, etc.) is to be added. In the case of more than six authors, write first six authors, then add et al. In the text, literature reference quoted in brackets should contain the author’s surname, the year of publication, and the suffix if any. If the reference immediately follows the surname in the text, the date only is to be quoted in brackets. Footnotes must be avoided.
Illustrations Drawings and well contrasted photographs must be directly reproducible. The figures should either match the size of the column width (7.8 cm) or the printing width (16.4 cm). Several figures should be grouped into a plate not exceeding the page printing area (16.4x21 cm). Colour photographs should be used only when essential for demonstration purposes, and must be supplied as slides. The cost of colour reproduction will be charged to the author. The authors are also encouraged to submit their illustrations as .TIF or .JPG files, with a resolution of at least 300 dpi. Tables should be numbered in Roman numerals, and Figures in Arabic numerals; micrographs contained in the same figure should be marked with letters. Captions of Tables and Figures should be presented on separate sheets, and should be informative and concise without duplicating information presented within the body of the text. Remarks such as see comments in the text must be avoided.
Acceptance of papers Minireviews (not exceeding 15 typewritten pages, including illustrations) are, as a rule, expressly invited; author(s) interested in contributing a minireview should contact the Editor in Chief before submitting a manuscript. The decision of the Editorial Board to accept full-length articles (Original papers and Technical reports, not exceeding 20 typewritten pages) and Brief notes (not exceeding 10 pages, including figures) is based on the opinion expressed by two or more of its members or consultants; possible reviewers may be proposed by the author(s) too. Letters to the Editor (not exceeding 3 typewritten pages) will be accepted solely by the Editorial Board. To ensure that the English used is of the appropriate standard, manuscripts will be judged for language by an English-speaking consultant; this service will be charged to the author(s), who may be asked to revise the text. Upon acceptance of the paper, authors will be asked to send their text by e-mail to office@ejh.it or stored on 3.5 inch discs, using the main word processors for Macintosh, IBM or 100% compatible personal computers. Published papers will bear the date of final acceptance.
Copyright The Copyright of published papers and articles is the property of the Journal. It is an absolute condition that submitted manuscripts have not been published, and will not concomitantly be submitted or published, elsewhere. By submitting a manuscript, the authors agree that the copyright to their article is transferred to the Journal, effective if and when the article is accepted for publication.
Page charge The first three pages will be free of charge. A charge (?37 per page) will be made for all the following pages. The authors will receive 25 reprints free of charge; authors may request additional reprints. Charges and terms of payment will be communicated to the authors on a special form attached to their proofs. Please send corrected proofs and Reprint Order Form via fax at the number +39.0382.27721.
