About the journal
|
The Journal of Gene Medicine is a print and electronic journal which publishes articles on the science of gene transfer and its clinical applications. The journal will consider articles on all aspects of gene therapy including design and production of vectors, research into the mechanisms underlying gene transfer, preclinical studies including animal models, developmental aspects (large-scale production, toxicology) and clinical trials. The editors particularly welcome articles dealing with the methodological aspects of gene transfer in vivo, notably in the context of human studies. Articles addressing more fundamental biological issues which could open up avenues for more effective gene transfer are also welcome |

Instructions to Authors
The Journal of Gene Medicine is committed to rapid publication of articles. It is the intention of the Editorial Office to peer review manuscripts and notify authors of the decision within four weeks. Upon acceptance, the full text is published online in 'EarlyView' http://www3.interscience.wiley.com within eight weeks of acceptance and subsequently appears in the next available print issue.
Initial manuscript submission. The Journal of Gene Medicine operates a web-based submission, peer-review and manuscript tracking system. Authors are strongly encouraged to submit their research article online. Details of how to submit online and full author instructions can be found at http://jgm-wiley.manuscriptcentral.com. Submission of a manuscript will be held to imply that it contains original unpublished work and is not being submitted for publication elsewhere at the same time.
Review articles are by invitation only, but proposals may be accepted after editorial approval. Please contact the Editorial Office with your proposal before submitting a review article.
The alternative to online submission is an electronic file of text, figures and tables as an email attachment sent to genmed@wiley.co.uk. This should preferably be a single pdf file. A cover letter should be sent as a separate word file. Separate text file (in word format ) and figures as pdf, tiff, powerpoint or jpg are also acceptable. Please send low resolution images (72dpi) for initial submissions. E-mail attached files will be uploaded to the web-based manuscript tracking system. Reviewers may ask to see high-resolution or hard copies of the figures for clarification and these must be available upon request.
We regret that we are unable to accept paper manuscripts for initial submissions.
For all submission enquiries please contact the editorial office - Richard Edelstein M.D., Managing Editor of The Journal of Gene Medicine, Wiley Europe, 14 rue Saint Laurent, 60500 Chantilly, France. Tel: +33 (0) 344 57 39 80 Fax: +33 (0) 344 57 50 72 Email: genmed@wiley.co.uk.
Revised manuscripts should be submitted in the same way as initial manuscripts and should also include a point by point letter specifying how the author has responded to the reviewers?and editors?comments.
Final accepted manuscripts. Upon acceptance authors will be asked to submit the final form of the article to the editorial office, including illustrations, in paper form and on disk, for quality print reproduction. Authors will be asked to supply with their final manuscript:
- a Copyright Transfer Agreement with original signature(s) - without this we are unable to process the manuscript
- any required permission letters - it is the author's responsibility to obtain written permission to reproduce (in all media, including electronic) material which has appeared in another publication
- acceptance to assume the cost of colour illustrations (if applicable), or alternatively the choice to have the illustrations published in black and white
Manuscript style.
- All submission must have a title page with the full title, a short title (no more than 40 characters, spaces included) and names and affiliations of all authors. Give the full address, including email, telephone and fax of the corresponding author
- Include up to six key words that describe your paper for indexing purposes
- Authors may suggest appropriate reviewers, for consideration by the Editors
- Supply an abstract of up to 250 words. An abstract is a concise summary of the whole paper, not just the conclusions, and is understandable without reference to the rest of the paper. It should contain no citation to other published work. Divide the abstract into four short paragraphs labelled Background, Methods, Results, Conclusions.
- Manuscripts should be structured into headed sections as follows: Title, Abstract, Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, Acknowledgements, References. Other subsection headings within the main headings may be used but should be limited
- Include the name(s) of any sponsor(s) of the research contained in the paper, along with grant number(s).
- Abbreviations are not encouraged except for units of measurement and universally recognized abbreviations (e.g. DNA). When an abbreviation appears in the text for the first time, it should be placed in parentheses after the words for which it stands.
The Editor reserves the right to alter manuscripts whenever necessary to make them confirm to the stylistic and bibliographical conventions of the Journal.
Compound and drug names. Generic names should be used for all compounds. Trade names may be used in parentheses after the generic name. Sources of unusual materials and chemicals, and the manufacturer and model of equipment used should be indicated.
References should be cited by bracketed numbers and listed at the end of the paper in the order in which they appear in the text. All references must be complete and accurate. Online citations should include date of access. Use Medline abbreviations for journal names. They can be found at: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/jrbrowser.cgi. If necessary, cite unpublished or personal work in the text but do not include it in the reference list. References should be listed in the following style:
- Rosenberg S, Aebersold P, Cornetta K, et al. Gene transfer into humans - immunotherapy of patients with advanced melanoma, using TIL modified by retroviral gene transduction. N Engl J Med 1990; 323: 570-578.

Copyright. It is a condition of publication that authors transfer the copyright of their manuscripts to the publisher. Therefore, all accepted manuscripts should be accompanied by a signed Copyright Transfer Agreement . A copy of the agreement (which may be photocopied) can be found in the first issue of each volume of the Journal. Copies may also be obtained from the publisher, or may be printed from the journal website. Authors will normally be entitled to publish any part of their paper elsewhere provided permission is requested and the usual acknowledgments are given. The assignment of the copyright will not affect subsisting patent rights or arrangements relating to them.
Authority and Responsibility. The intellectual content of the paper is the responsibility of the authors. The Editors and the Publisher accept no responsibility for opinions and statements of authors. While every effort will be made by the Editor and Publisher to avoid inaccurate and misleading data, they accept no liability whatsoever for the consequences of wrong information. The authors agree to keep the Editors and Publisher fully and effectually indemnified against any liability or claims that may arise out of the publication of inaccurate and/or misleading data.
Further Information. Proofs will be sent to the author for checking. This stage is to be used only to correct errors that may have been introduced during the production process. Prompt return of the corrected proofs, preferably within 2 days of receipt, will minimise the risk of the paper being held over to a later issue. Twenty-five complimentary offprints will be provided to the author who checked the proofs, unless otherwise indicated. Further offprints and copies of the journal may be ordered. There are no page charges to authors.
