The Journal of Feline Medicine and Surgery publishes original articles on all aspects of feline medicine and surgery, including relevant basic research, hotline editorials, topical review articles, short communications, letters to the editor, ESFM and AAFP news and other feline meeting information.

The Journal of Feline Medicine and Surgery aims to publish high quality original papers and reviews on all aspects of feline medicine and surgery, including relevant basic research hotline editorials, topical review articles, short communications and letters to the editor.

Instructions to Authors
The Journal of Feline Medicine and Surgery publishes original contributions and review papers on all aspects of feline medicine and surgery. All articles submitted for publication are subject to peer review. Submission of a paper will be held to imply that it has not been and will not be published elsewhere in whole, or in part in any language, without the consent of the editors. Manuscripts are accepted on the understanding that all authors agree to the submission. The copyright of papers accepted for publication belongs to the European Society of Feline Medicine and the American Association of Feline Practitioners.
MANUSCRIPT SUBMISSION
Three copies of the manuscript along with an electronic copy (on disc or CD-ROM) should be sent to one of the two editorial offices.
All papers from the Americas and Japan should be submitted to the Canadian office: The Editor, Journal of Feline Medicine and Surgery, 4381 Gladstone Street, Vancouver, B.C., Canada, V5N 4Z4
All other papers to the UK office: The Editor, Journal of Feline Medicine and Surgery, Taeselbury, High Street, Tisbury, Wiltshire, SP3 6LD, United Kingdom
They should be typewritten, double-spaced, on one side of paper only. Where cited papers appear as 'in press', copies of these papers should be sent with the submitted manuscript. Manuscripts should be written in English or American-English, and the Editors reserve the right to make any literary corrections.
Ethics
The editors reserve the right to reject papers on ethical grounds when, in their opinion, the severity of experimental procedures is not justified by the scientific value or originality of the information being sought by the author(s).
Title
All submissions should have a title page containing the full paper title and, the initials, surnames, qualifications and address(es) of the author(s).
Length
Papers should be as concise as possible, and not exceed 3000 words. Each paper should have a self-contained Summary (of up to 150 words) embodying the main conclusions, followed by the Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, Acknowledgements and References.
Review Articles
Review articles of relevant topics are invited for publication. They should provide an update on recent advances in a particular field and the length should not exceed 4000 words. Authors wishing to submit review articles should contact the Editor at the address given above with an outline of the proposed paper prior to submission, to allow consideration by the scientific editors.
Short Communications
Short communications (including case reports) should not exceed 1500 words and include no more than two tables or figures. They should include a brief Summary but no other divisions. Manuscripts should be clearly labelled 'short communication'.
Letters to the Editor
Letters containing critical comment on papers recently published in the journal and letters describing case studies or original material will be considered for publication in the correspondence section. Letters should not exceed 1000 words (including references and one table or figure). Where commenting on published papers, a letter may be sent to the authors of the original paper for comment and both letter and reply may be published together.
Reference Format
Only papers closely related to the author's work should be referenced and exhaustive lists should be avoided. References should be cited in the text thus: Smith (1992a); Smith (1992b); Smith and Jones (1995); Smith, Jones and Brown (1997).
The reference list at the end of the paper should be in alphabetical order and appear in the form: Smith AB, Jones CC (1995) Feline coronavirus infections. Veterinary Record 934, 241-255. References to books and monographs should include: (1)autho(s) editor(s); (2)year of publication; (3) title; (4) edition; (5) place of publication and publisher; (6) beginning and final page numbers.
Figures
These should be submitted on separate sheets each bearing the author's name and fgure number in pencil on the back with an arrow indicating the top. Photographs should be unmounted glossy prints suitable for reproduction. Radiographs should be supplied as blacka nd white prints from the original radiograph for optimal reproduction. Colour illustrations will be accepted, where found necessary by the editors, but the author will be expected to make a substantial contribution to the cost of reproduction. Photomicrographs must state original magnification and stain technique. Diagrams should be presented in black ink on white paper in a form suitable for reproduction. Captions and titles should be typed on a separate sheet of paper and numbered.
Tables
Tables should be as few as possible and contain only essential data. They should be typewritten on separate sheets.
Units & Abbreviations
Each scientific abbreviation must be explained at its first occurrence in the paper; for example, complement fixation test (CFT). All units of measurement should be given in the metric system or in SI units. Medicines should be referred by their generic name with the proprietary name and manufacturer given in parentheses when first mentioned; for example. ketamine (Velatar; Parke-Davis).
Proofs
Page proofs will be sent to the first named or a nominated author for minor corrections and should be returned within three days.
