Wind power is set to become one of the major energy resources of the future. Wind Energy offers a major forum for the reporting of advances in this rapidly developing technology with the goal of realising the world-wide potential to harness clean energy from the wind. The journal will aim to reach all those with an interest in this field from academic research, industrial development through to practical applications of wind turbines. Contributions across the spectrum of scientific and engineering disciplines concerned with the advancement of wind power conversion technology are an essential feature of the journal. Considerable emphasis will be placed on technical applications papers which describe progress in a way which will appeal to a wide readership. The scope extends to include contributions of a more general nature, addressing operating experience, environmental studies, economic aspects and sociopolitical issues in a 'Broader Perspectives' section. The international Editorial Board presiding over the journal plays an essential role in the rigorous peer-reviewing of contributions to ensure delivery of high-quality and useful information.
Instructions to Authors
Manuscript Submission. Wind Energy operates an online submission and peer review system that allows authors to submit articles online and track their progress via a web interface. Please read the remainder of these instructions to authors and then click http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/we to navigate to the Wind Energy online submission site.
All papers must be submitted via the online system.
File types. Preferred formats for the text and tables of your manuscript are .doc, .rtf, .ppt, .xls. LaTeX files may be submitted provided that an .eps or .pdf file is provided in addition to the source files. Figures may be provided in .tiff or .eps format.
Important information for authors using LaTeX. If you have used LaTeX to prepare your manuscript you should observe the following instructions:
- Initial submission: For reviewing purposes you should upload either an .eps, .pdf or .rtf created from your source files.
- Submission of a revised manuscript: When submitting your revision you must still upload an .eps, .pdf or .rtf for reviewing purposes. In addition you must upload your LaTeX source files. If your manuscript is accepted for publication we will use the files you upload to typeset your article within a totally digital workflow.
Authors must only supply by postal mail to the Editorial Office:
- a Copyright Transfer Agreement with original signature(s) - without this we are unable to accept the submission, and
- permission grants - if the manuscript contains extracts, including illustrations, from other copyright works (including material from on-line or intranet sources) it is the author's responsibility to obtain written permission from the owners of the publishing rights to reproduce such extracts using the Wiley Permission Request Form.
The Copyright Transfer Form and the Permissions Form should be sent to the editorial office that has received the submitted manuscript. The forms must be sent immediately following the online submission of your article.
Submission of a manuscript will be held to imply that it contains original unpublished work and is not being submitted for publication elsewhere at the same time. Submitted material will not be returned to the author, unless specifically requested.
Manuscript style. The Journal includes Research Papers, Short Communications (~2500 words) and Letters to the Editor (~750 words). Research Papers and Short Communications will be assessed primarily on the originality and significance of technical content, judged by the highest international standards. Papers of a review nature may be included provided they make substantial reference to recent research. Contributions with an 'applied' theme are encouraged, and will be assessed for originality and significance with rather more emphasis on the challenge of successful design and implementation. A contribution for the 'Broader Perspectives' section will be assessed primarily in terms of its significance and interest to a wide cross-section of the wind community. Contributions of a more general nature including those addressing economic, environmental or educational aspects will normally appear in this section. The language of the Journal is English, and authors should follow the Oxford English Dictionary, or Webster's New World Dictionary if using American spelling. All submissions must have a title and have a margin of 30 mm all round. Illustrations and tables must be on separate sheets, and not be incorporated into the text.
- The title page must list the full title and the names and affiliations of all authors. Give the full address, including e-mail, telephone and fax, of the author who is to check the proofs.
- Include the name(s) of any sponsor(s) of the research contained in the paper, along with grant number(s).
- Supply a summary of up to 250 words for all articles. This is a concise summary of the whole paper, not just the conclusions, and is understandable without reference to the rest of the paper. It should contain no citation to other published work.
- Include up to eight key words that describe your paper for indexing purposes.
Reference style. References should be marked in the text using an Arabic numeral [in square brackets] and listed at the end of the paper in the order in which they appear in the text. All references must be complete and accurate. Where possible the DOI for the reference should be included at the end of the reference. Online citations should include date of access. If necessary, cite unpublished or personal work in the text but do not include it in the reference list. References should be listed in the following style:
- Holdsworth L, Ekanayake JB, Jenkins N. Power system frequency response from fixed speed and doubly fed induction generator-based wind turbines. Wind Energy 2004; 7:21-35. DOI: 10.1002/we.105
- Walker JF, Jenkins N. Wind Energy Technology; Wiley: New York, 1997; 1-24.
Illustrations. Electronic versions of the artwork should be supplied at the intended size for printing; the maximum column width is 143 mm. The cost of printing colour illustrations in the Journal will be charged to the author. If colour illustrations are supplied electronically in either TIFF or EPS format, they may be used in the PDF of the article at no cost to the author, even if this illustration was printed in black and white in the Journal.:
Upload each figure as a separate file in either .tiff or .eps format, with the lead author's name, the figure number and the top of the figure indicated. Compound figures e.g. 1a, b, c should be uploaded as one figure. Tints are not acceptable. Lettering must be of a reasonable size that would still be clearly legible upon reduction, and consistent within each figure and set of figures. Where a key to symbols is required, please include this in the artwork itself, not in the figure legend. All illustrations must be supplied at the correct resolution:
- Black and white and colour photos - 300 dpi
- Graphs, drawings, etc - 800 dpi preferred; 600 dpi minimum
- Combinations of photos and drawings (black and white and colour) - 500 dpi
Tables should be part of the the main document and should be placed after the references. If the table is created in excel the file should be uploaded separately.
Copyright. To enable the publisher to disseminate the author's work to the fullest extent, the author must sign a Copyright Transfer Agreement, transferring copyright in the article from the author to the publisher, and submit the original signed agreement with the article presented for publication. A copy of the agreement to be used (which may be photocopied) can be found in the first issue of each volume of Wind Energy. Copies may also be obtained from the journal editor or publisher, or may be printed from this website.
Further information. Proofs will be sent to the author for checking. This stage is to be used only to correct errors that may have been introduced during the production process. Prompt return of the corrected proofs, preferably within two days of receipt, will minimize the risk of the paper being held over to a later issue. Twenty-five complimentary offprints will be provided to the author who checked the proofs, unless otherwise indicated. Further offprints and copies of the Journal may be ordered. There is no page charge to authors.
