About the journal
- JAAWS publishes articles and reports discussing methods of experimentation, husbandry, and care that enhance the welfare of animals in laboratories, farms, homes, and the wild.
- JAAWS encourages submission of brief report research reports and comments on any aspect of applied animal welfare science.
Instructions to Authors
Issues under discussion include:
- describing and measuring the well-being of an animal
- animal consciousness
- engineering versus performance criteria of welfare in laboratory animals
- biogenetic engineering
- species reintroduction
- animal companions
- overpopulation
- the effect and limits of field studies on welfare
- feral cat management
- welfare issues associated with trapping
Manuscript Submission
- Authors should submit manuscripts as email attachments in Microsoft Word format to Ken.Shapiro@animalsandsociety.org
- All applicable governmental and institutional guidelines regarding the use of human and nonhuman animal subjects must be strictly adhered to.
- Submitted manuscripts must not have been published previously, nor may they be under review for publication elsewhere.
- Manuscript submissions should conform to the guidelines described in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (4th Edition).
