About the journal

Personality and Social Psychology Review (PSPR) publishes theory-based reviews and offers theoretical formulations in personality and/or social psychology. The journal is intended as a forum for conceptual pieces that initiate new lines of research and theory or provide a coherent framework for existing theory and programs of research across all of the fields' subdisciplines. PSPR is a companion journal to Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin (PSPB), which now focuses exclusively on empirical papers. As an official publication of the Society of Personality and Social Psychology, PSPR:
* supports the society's objectives of advancing personality and social psychology as a science and as a means of promoting human welfare;
* provides a voice for the field worldwide by publishing important conceptual and empirical developments and new trends; and
* presents a versatile outlet for substantive work that does not readily fit other publications.

Instructions to Authors

Manuscript Preparation: Use a word processor to prepare manuscript. Using 8? x 11-in. nonsmear paper, type all components (a) double-spaced, (b) 1,800 to 2,000 characters per page (70 to 75 characters per line [including spaces] x 25 to 27 lines per page), (c) on one side of the paper, (d) with each component beginning on a new page, and (e) in the following order-title page (p. 1), abstract (p. 2), text (including quotations), references, appendices, footnotes, tables, and figure captions. Consecutively number all pages (including photocopies of figures). Indent all paragraphs.

Title Page and Abstract: On page 1, type (a) article title, (b) author name(s) and affiliation(s), (c) running head (abbreviated title, no more than 45 characters and spaces), (d) acknowledgments, and (e) name and address of the person to whom requests for reprints should be addressed. On page 2, type an abstract of no more than 150 words.

Editorial Style and References: Prepare manuscripts according to the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (5th ed.; APA Order Department, P.O. Box 2710, Hyattsville, MD 20784). Follow "Guidelines to Reduce Bias in Language" (APA Manual).

Double-space references. Compile references alphabetically (see ^APA Manual for multiple-author citations and references). Spell out names of journals. Provide page numbers of chapters in edited books. Text citations must correspond accurately to the references in the reference list.

Tables: Refer to APA Manual for format. Double-space. Provide each table with explanatory title; make title intelligible without reference to text. Provide appropriate heading for each column in table. Indicate clearly any units of measurement used in table. If table is reprinted or adapted from another source, include credit line. Consecutively number all tables.

Figures and Figure Captions: Figures should be (a) high-resolution illustrations or (b) glossy, high-contrast black-and-white photographs.

Do not clip, staple, or write on back of figures; instead, write article title, figure number, and TOP (of figure) on label and apply label to back of each figure. Consecutively number figures. Attach photocopies of all figures to manuscript.

Consecutively number captions with Arabic numerals corresponding to the figure numbers; make captions intelligible without reference to text; if figure is reprinted or adapted from another source, include credit line.

Cover Letter, Permissions, Credit Lines: In cover letter, include contact author's postal and e-mail addresses and phone and fax numbers.

Only original manuscripts submitted to PSPR will be considered for publication. The cover letter should include a statement that the findings reported in the manuscript have not been previously published and that the manuscript is not being simultaneously submitted elsewhere.

Authors are responsible for all statements made in their work and for obtaining permission to reprint or adapt a copyrighted table or figure or to quote at length from a copyrighted work. Authors should write to original author(s) and original publisher to request nonexclusive world rights in all languages to use the material in the article and in future editions. Include copies of all permissions and credit lines with the manuscript. (See p. 140 of APA Manual for sample credit lines.)

Manuscript Submission: Submit manuscripts to: Galen V. Bodenhausen, Incoming Editor/E-mail: pspr@northwestern.edu for detailed submission instructions.

Manuscript Review and Acceptance: All manuscripts are peer reviewed.

Authors of accepted manuscripts submit (a) disk containing two files (word-processor and ASCII versions of final, postreview version of manuscript), (b) printout of final, postreview version of manuscript, (c) camera-ready figures, (d) copies of all permissions obtained to reprint or adapt material from other sources, and (e) copyright-transfer agreement signed by all co-authors.

It is the responsibility of the contact author to ascertain that all co-authors approve the accepted manuscript and concur with its publication in the journal.

Content of files must exactly match that of manuscript printout, or there will be a delay in publication. Manuscripts and disk are not returned.

Production Notes: Authors' files are copyedited and typeset into page proofs. Authors read proofs to correct errors and answer editors' queries.
