Instructions to Authors
In preparing manuscripts for publication in Motor Control, authors should adhere to the guidelines found in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, (5th edition, 2001). Copies can be found in most university libraries, or may be obtained through the APA Order Dept., P.O. Box 92984, Washington, DC 20090-2984. (www.apa.org/books). Tel: 800-374-2721.
Authors may submit research papers, quick communications, commentaries, and target articles. Authors should submit three copies of their manuscript to the editor, Mark Latash, PhD, The Pennsylvania State University, 200 Biomechanics Laboratory, University Park, PA 16802-3408. All copies must be clear, readable, and on paper of good quality.
Authors are advised to do a final check for accuracy of references, proofread their submissions carefully, and retain a copy of the article to guard against loss. Manuscripts will not be returned. Please adhere to the following guidelines.
Cover Letter: All manuscripts must be accompanied by a letter indicating that the work has been completed with the appropriate approvals for the use of human or animal subjects. In addition, the author must confirm that the paper has not been submitted to any other publication simultaneously.
Title Page: With each copy of the manuscript, authors should submit a separate cover sheet including the title of the manuscript, full name of all authors (i.e., first name spelled out), institutional affiliation(s), running head, date of manuscript submission, and full mailing address, telephone and fax numbers, and e-mail address of the author who is to receive proofs.
Manuscript: All articles must be preceded by an abstract of 100-150 words. All segments of the manuscript must be double-spaced including the abstract, references, and tables. Label clearly any tables and graphs and include them on separate pages. Number all pages in the upper right corner in this order: title page, abstract, text, references, acknowledgments if any, figure captions, tables, and figures.
Disk Submission: To reduce errors and expedite the production process, upon acceptance, authors should submit a computer disk along with the hard copy of their manuscript. The manuscript must reflect the exact wording of the final revision on the disk. The Editor will share disk guidelines as you prepare your final paper.
Figures: All art must be professional in appearance and camera-ready; freehand or typewritten lettering will not be accepted. PC-generated screens (i.e., dot patterns) do not reproduce well during the printing process and should not be used to create shading in figures. Stripe patterns or solids are better choices for shading. Figures can be submitted on disk if they are created in Macintosh Illustrator or Freehand or are saved in eps, tiff, or pict format.
Copyright: Authors of manuscripts accepted for publication must transfer copyright to Human Kinetics Publishers, Inc.
Reprints: Authors will be offered the opportunity to purchase reprints when they return proofs and upon publication of the journal issue. Pricing information and order forms will be provided by the publisher and sent with the complimentary copy.
