About the journal

Aims and Scope
The Journal of Hydrologic Engineering disseminates information on the development of new hydrologic methods, theories, and applications to current engineering problems. The journal publishes papers on analytical, numerical, and experimental methods for the investigation and modeling of hydrological processes.
Reviewers
The judgment of independent peer-reviewers and their willingness to share their time and expertise help ASCE to publish engineering journals of the highest caliber. The Journal of Hydrologic Engineering acknowledges the contributions of individual reviewers and honors outstanding reviewers.
Preview
ASCE journal Preview Manuscripts are articles submitted online, and then peer-reviewed, accepted, and posted online before the final, copyedited version is published online and in print. Go to Preview Manuscripts.
Online Issues
Articles from this journal beginning January 1996 are available online at ASCE’s Research Library. Search all issues or Search all ASCE journals and proceedings.
Permissions
Permission to use materials from ASCE journals can be obtained quickly and easily through Rightslink.
Instructions to Authors
Submit five (5) double-spaced copies of papers and notes or four (4) copies of discussions to the Journals Department along with a completed ASCE Sizing Guide. Check manuscript length limitations listed below. Papers under review, accepted for publication, or published elsewhere are not accepted. Write, phone or email the Journals Department for ASCE Authors Guide to Journals, Books, and Reference Publications for complete instructions for manuscript preparation. You can access the ASCE Authors¡¯ Guide to Journals, Books, and Reference Publications on the Publications Web site. It is also available in printed form and can be obtained by writing or phoning the Journals Department at ASCE, 1801 Alexander Bell Drive, Reston, Virginia, 20191-4400; 1-703-295-6290.
Length Requirements
For most ASCE journals, the maximum number of words or word-equivalents is 10,000 for papers, 3,500 for notes, and 2,000 for discussions. The editor may waive these restrictions to encourage papers on topics that cannot be treated within these limitations. Such topics may include state-of-the-art reviews and detailed case histories. However, authors are advised that most topics can be covered within these limitations, and that the editors of this journal require clear justification for longer manuscripts. Please use the ASCE Sizing Guide to determine the length and include a copy of the form with your submission.
SI Units
The use of System International (SI) units as primary units of measure is mandatory. Other units may be given in parenthesis after the SI unit if the author desires. More information about SI units can be found in the ASCE Author Guide or from NIST.
CE Database subject headings
The subject headings are assigned by the manager of the Civil Engineering Database (www.pubs.asce.org) using a thesaurus also available on the ASCE website. New subject headings are added to the thesaurus as warranted. We welcome the inclusion of subject headings with your final manuscript; however, the subject headings you provide should be chosen from the list on the website.
Reprints
Authors can order reprints using reprint order forms provided by the Production Department or on the internet at http://www.pubs.asce.org/authors/jrnlreprint.pdf.
