Instructions to Authors

SUBMISSION OF MANUSCRIPTS

Authors should submit articles by e-mail to the Editor, David Steigmann: steigman@me.berkeley.edu

Mathematics and Mechanics of Solids is an international peer reviewed journal that publishes the highest quality original innovative research in solid mechanics and materials science.

The central aim of MMS is to publish original, well-written and self-contained research that elucidates the mechanical behaviour of solids with particular emphasis on mathematical principles.

Mathematics and Mechanics of Solids operates a conventional single-blind reviewing policy in which the reviewer’s name is always concealed from the submitting author.

Authors wishing to submit a paper to the journal must comply with the following requirements. Failure to do so will delay acceptance and publication of the paper.

Original Nature: The author(s) must provide assurance that the manuscript has neither been published nor submitted for publication elsewhere.

Title: Title, name, affiliation, and full address of the author(s), including the address for correspondence and e-mail, should be stated on the title page. In the case of multiple authors, one should be designated as the corresponding author. If the title is longer than sixty (60) characters including spaces, provide a brief title for use as a running head.

Abstracts: A concise 100-200 word abstract that indicates both the objectives and the results of the research is required. The abstract should be a complete statement in itself; and it must not contain references, or unexplained abbreviations or symbols.

Length: There is no formal limit to the length of a paper, but the editor may recommend condensation when appropriate.

SI Units: SI units must be used throughout the manuscript. All symbols must be clearly identified on the manuscript to avoid confusion in typesetting. A nomenclature may be included.

References: References should be listed numerically in square brackets within the text and at the end of the manuscript in the order of their first appearance in the text. Citations should record the complete title of the article, the complete title of the journal or of a book, and inclusive page numbers as appropriate. The format for referencing articles in journals, books, and articles in books or proceedings is as follows:

Reference within the text to a specific "Section" of a paper or a "Chapter" of a book should be capitalized and not abbreviated.

Figures: Figures must be photographically reproducible. Electronic figure files are preferred. Line drawings, including lettering, must be clear, sharp, and suitable for reduction. Half tone photographs should be of high contrast and marked with the legend the author wishes to appear in the final form. Photographs, diagrams, and graphs should be numbered consecutively and referred to as "Figure" within the text (abbreviated to "Fig." only in the caption). A list of captions must be appended to the manuscript. Authors' names and the figure number should be written lightly on the back in blue pencil, and indicate in the margin of the text the most appropriate location for the figure. Indicate the top of the figure clearly.

Proofs: The publisher will send the proofs to the corresponding author for correction. Author(s) should be diligent and prompt in proofreading. Extensive alterations in proofs other than the printer's errors may be charged to the authors.

Offprints: Access to 25 free e-prints will be provided; the corresponding author will receive one complimentary copy of the journal for each contributor.

Page Charges: There are no page charges.

OnlineFirst Instructions

OnlineFirst articles are the definitive final version, and are fully searchable and citable using their DOI. When you cite an Online first article, give the paper's DOI at the end of the citation. For example,

Author(s) J Psychopharmacol OnlineFirst, day month year (doi:10.1177/0269881106066333).

After print publication, you should give the DOI as well as the print citation, to enable readers to find the paper in print as well as online.
