About the journal
This scholarly journal is devoted to furthering an understanding of scientific relations between sociocultural, psychosocial, and behavioral principles. It also investigates biological processes, physical health, and illness. Its readership has a broad range of backgrounds, interests, and specializations. The journal's makeup emphasizes original research on such topics as the role of environmental, psychosocial, or sociocultural factors that may contribute to disease or its prevention; animal behavior studies that provide insight into pathophysiological processes; and behavioral methods used in the diagnosis, treatment, or rehabilitation of individuals having physical disorders. All material has significant theoretical or practical import for an understanding of behavioral medicine
Instructions to Authors
Manuscript Preparation: Prepare manuscripts according to the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (5th ed.; APA, 750 First Street, NE, Washington, DC 20002-4242). Follow "Guidelines for Nonsexist Language in APA Journals."
Strong preference is given to manuscripts of 20 pages or fewer, including references, tables, and figures. Use 1?in. margins. Type all components double-spaced and in the following order: title page (p. 1), abstract and key words (p. 2), text (including quotes), acknowledgments, references, appendices, footnotes, tables, and figure captions. On page 1, type article title, author name(s) and affiliation(s), running head (abbreviated title, no more than 45 characters and spaces), and name and address of the person to whom requests for reprints should be addressed; on page 2, type an abstract of no more than 150 words and a list of no more than 6 key words; type author notes and acknowledgments at the end of the article (just before the References section). Attach photocopies of all figures.
Permissions: Authors are responsible for all statements made in their work and for obtaining permission from copyright owners to reprint or adapt a table or figure or to reprint a quotation of 500 words or more. Authors should write to original author(s) and publisher to request nonexclusive world rights in all languages to use the material in the article and in future editions. Provide copies of all permissions and credit lines.
Cover Letter: In a cover letter, include the contact author's address and telephone and fax numbers and state that the manuscript includes only original material that has not been published and that is not under review for publication elsewhere.
Manuscript Submission: Electronic submissions are preferred. Manuscripts can be submitted electronically as attachment files, preferably in MS Word format (PC or Mac) and figures as Powerpoint files to j.dekker@vumc.nl or as high-quality printouts (5 copies) to the Editor, Joost Dekker, Ph.D., Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, VU University Medical Center, P.O. Box 7057, 1007 MB Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
Manuscripts are not returned to authors. Electronic manuscripts should be submitted as attachment files, preferably in MS Word format (PC or Mac) and figures as Powerpoint files to ijbm@psychology.su.se After manuscripts are accepted, they should be submitted as before (disc, paper copy, camera-ready figures).
Accepted Manuscripts and Computer Disks: After manuscripts are accepted, authors are asked to (a) submit a disk containing two files (word-processor and ASCII versions of the manuscript), (b) make sure the content of the files exactly matches that of the printed, accepted, finalized manuscript (provide revised printout if necessary), (c) submit camera-ready figures, and (d) sign and return a copyright-transfer agreement. It is the responsibility of the contact author to ascertain that all coauthors approve the accepted manuscript and concur with its publication in the journal.
Production Notes: Files of accepted manuscripts are copyedited and typeset into page proofs. Authors read proofs to correct errors and answer editors' queries. Authors may order reprints of their articles when they receive proofs.
