About the journal
Cell Biology International is the official publication of the International Federation for Cell Biology. Each month, the journal publishes easy-to-assimilate, up-to-the-minute reports of experimental findings by researchers using a wide range of the latest techniques. Promoting the aims of cell biologists world-wide, papers relating to structure and function - especially where the findings are seen in a whole cell (physiological) context - are very welcome. In covering all areas of the cell, the journal is both appealing and accessible to a broad audience.
The Journal Features:
Original papers: articles relating to all aspects of animal and plant cell biology Short communications: brief and rapidly published papers making a specific well-documented point Mini-reviews: usually invited contributors providing state-of-the-art overviews of hot topics and developments Commentaries: a forum for discussion of statistical analysis, theory, methodology and terminology for critiques of recent papers, usually by invited contributors Reports and abstracts of cell biology meetings Book reviews Hypotheses and letters to the editor Special issues: published from time to time and featuring a guest editor

Instructions to Authors
Cell Biology International is the official journal of the International Federation for Cell Biology. Our objective is to provide easy-to-assimilate, up-to-the minute reports of experimental findings to as wide a readership as possible in the world. Original papers, Short (rapid) Communications, Hypotheses and Scientific Correspondence are acceptable. By invitation, Mini-reviews, Commentaries, Book Reviews, and Reports on cell biology meetings will normally be by invitation. Abstracts from meetings can be published (either before or after the event) but the Editor and Publisher will need to be consulted first since they can no longer be published free of charge. SUBMISSION OF MANUSCRIPTS
A disc (or electronic submission via the Internet), a top hardcopy, and three further hardcopies of the paper, each with a high quality set of figures, should be submitted to the Editor:
Dr Denys N. Wheatley Cell Biology International University of Aberdeen Department of Cell Pathology MacRobert Building 581 King Street, Aberdeen AB24 5UA, U.K. wheatley@abdn.ac.uk
For contributors not from Europe, submission can also be made to one of our Regional Editors (see Editorial Board), especially if initial advice is being sought). All plant cell papers should be submitted to the main editorial office, but will subsequently be dealt with by the Deputy Editor, Dr Chris Hawes.
Composition of Papers Each paper should consist of a Title; Authors (indicating which author is responsible for correspondence); Keywords; Abbreviations; Abstract (150 words); Introduction; Materials and Methods; Results; Discussion; References; Acknowledgements; Tables; and Figure legends.
Reviewing At the time of submission to Cell Biology International, authors are asked to provide the names of up to four named individuals (including fax, telephone and e-mail addresses) who might act as referees. The absence of such information may lengthen the time from the submission to decision.
References Citations should be made by name and year of publication, e.g. (Loewi, 1979). If a paper has two authors both names should be used e.g. (Loewi and Davis, 1980). If there are three or more authors, only the first name should be given followed by 'et al.' as in: (Loewi et al.,1981). Unpublished material or personal communications (Loewi, personal communication) are only cited in the text, not the reference list. References are listed alphabetically. With two or more same author citations within one year, distinction between them is made by the use of an appended lower case italic letter after the year e.g. (Loewi, 1982a; 1982b. Journal titles are abbreviated, and the following style should be adopted:
LOEWI P-L, DAVEY RP, BOYCE E, 1994. Insulin-like growth factor-1 induces cell death in CHO cells with aberrant checkpoint control. Mol Cell Biol 12: 1224-1230.
Abbreviations and Units While authors should avoid unfamiliar abbreviations, a limited number of clearly defined abbreviations may be used, these being set out below Keywords on the title page. Other less familiar abbreviations should be quoted in full followed by the abbreviation or acronym in brackets at their first mention in the paper. Measurements should be expressed in SI units, and a solidus should be used as in g/kg.
Illustrations Black and white photographs and line drawings are acceptable. Each should be numbered sequentially and labelled with the first author's name, CBI, with an arrow indicating the top of the figure. all this being done in light pencil on the reverse side of the figure. The publisher will not charge authors for colour figures, where its use is integral to useful illustration of the data. Use of previously published illustration requires written permission of the original author and copyright holder, which should be presented at the time of submission of the paper, not afterwards. Acknowledgement and reference to the original source must be stated in the submitted manuscript. For electronic submission, figures should be submitted as EPS (encapsulated postscript) or TIFF files. The minimum resolution for electronically submitted photographs is 300 dpi.
Copyright and Offprints Authors submitting a manuscript do so on the understanding that the article has not been submitted elsewhere and that, if it has been accepted for publication, exclusive copyright to the paper shall be assigned to the Publisher under US law (copyright transfer forms can be copied from the back of each issue of the journal). In consideration for the assignment of copyright, the Publisher will supply 50 free offprints of each paper. Further offprints may be ordered at extra cost using order forms supplied with the proofs. The Publisher will not put any limitation on the personal freedom of the author to use material in the paper in other works, but permission for each use must be sought from both the publisher and author, and appropriate citation as to the source of the material must be given with each subsequent use.
IMPORTANT NOTICE Cell Line Authentication Authors are requested to adhere to the "UKCCCR Guidelines on the use of Cell Lines in Cancer Research" by stating the source, designation and passage number of cell lines on which their reported work is based, as also verifying their freedom from contaminants. The Guidelines are published on the UKCCCR website: http://ukcccr.icnet.uk. Attention should be paid to this in the Materials and Methods section, and authors omitting to include evidence of good practice will find that their articles may be delayed until such guarantees are given
Acknowledgements Authors should ensure that a proper acknowledgement section is included. Information on grant support, technical assistnace and any other help obtained in the presentation of the article should be included not only out of courtesy, but also because funding authorities request that work records the number and type of grant(s) involved.
Assistance to Non English Speaking Authors
Assistance with manuscript presentation is available for authors whose first language is not English.
