Political Communication is an interdisciplinary, international journal, published quarterly, that features cutting-edge research at the intersection of politics and communication, broadly conceived. Its expansive subject is the site of rapid changes and pressing policy concerns worldwide. The journal welcomes all research methods and analytical viewpoints that advance understanding of the practices, processes, and policy implications of political communication in all its forms. Regular symposium issues explore key issues in depth.
Instructions to Authors
***Note to Authors: please make sure your contact address information is clearly visible on the outside of all packages you are sending to Editors.***
Submission of Manuscripts
Manuscripts should be submitted to David L. Paletz, Editor, Political Communication, Deparment of Political Science, Box 90204, Duke University, Durham, NC 27708, USA. E-mail: polcom@duke.edu
Submit two good-quality paper copies and an electronic file on diskette in any current version of WordPerfect or Word (Windows). Identify on the diskette what software was used to create the file. Paper copies and diskettes cannot be returned. Accompany the manuscript with a statement that it has neither been published elsewhere nor that it is under consideration for publication elsewhere. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted material from other sources and are required to sign an agreement for the transfer of copyright to the publisher. All accepted manuscripts, artwork, and photographs become the property of the publisher.
Manuscripts should be typed, double-spaced, with margins of at least one inch on all sides. Number manuscript pages consecutively throughout the paper. Authors should also supply a shortened version of the title suitable for the running head, not exceeding 50 character spaces. Each article should be summarized in an abstract of no more that 250 words. Avoid abbreviations, diagrams, and reference to the text within the abstract. Normally, manuscripts should not exceed 30 pages of 300 words each, inclusive of notes, references, and illustrations.
All submissions undergo blind review, so the author's name and affiliation should not appear on the manuscript. Instead, provide a blind covering sheet that includes the title of the article, full names and academic or professional affiliations of all authors, and the complete address including telephone, fax, and e-mail of the author to whom proofs and correspondence should be sent. Include at the bottom of the covering sheet an author's note in the standard form,"[Author's name] is [title] at [academic or professional affiliation]." Manuscripts should conform to the style guidelines of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (5th ed.), including the author/date system of citation and reference. The Publication Manual is available from the American Psychological Association, 750 First Street, NE, Washington, DC 20002, USA.
Authors who have manuscripts accepted for publication are required to make all information in data sets used in the article freely available to researchers, on request.
Information from or access to these data sets may be withheld only with special permission from the editor prior to publication.
Book and Film Reviews
Books and films (VHS or DVD format) submitted for review in the journal should be sent to:
David L. Paletz, Editor Political Communication Deparment of Political Science Box 90204 Duke University Durham, NC 27708, USA
llustrations
Illustrations submitted (line drawings, halftones, photos, photomicrographs, etc.) should be clean originals or digital files. Digital files are recommended for highest quality reproduction and should follow these guidelines:
300 dpi or higher
sized to fit on journal page
EPS, TIFF, or PSD format only
submitted as separate files, not embedded in text
Color illustrations will be considered for publication; however, the author will be required to bear the full cost involved in their printing and publication. The charge for the first page with color is $900.00. The next three pages with color are $450.00 each. A custom quote will be provided for color art totaling more than 4 journal pages. Good-quality color prints or files should be provided in their final size. The publisher has the right to refuse publication of color prints deemed unacceptable.
Tables and Figures
Tables and figures should be printed on separate pages. A short descriptive title should appear above each table with a clear legend and any footnotes suitably identified below. All units must be included. Figures should be completely labeled, taking into account necessary size reduction. Captions should be typed, double-spaced, on a separate sheet. All original figures should be clearly marked in pencil on the reverse side with the number, author’s name, and top edge indicated.
Proofs
Proofs must be corrected and returned to the publisher within 48 hours of receipt. If the manuscript is not returned within the allotted time, the editor will proofread the article, and it will be printed per the editor’s instructions. Only correction of typographical errors is permitted. The author will be charged for additional alterations to text at the proof stage.
Offprints
Each author of the article will receive a complete copy of the issue in which the article appears, up to 3 copies per article. The corresponding author is responsible for distributing copies to co-authors. Off-prints of individual articles may be ordered from the publisher by using the order form included with page proofs.
