About the journal
Journal of Gambling Studies is an interdisciplinary forum for the dissemination on the many aspects of gambling behavior, both controlled and pathological, as well as variety of problems attendant to, or resultant from, gambling behavior including alcoholism, suicide, crime, and a number of other mental health problems. Articles published in this journal are representative of a cross-section of disciplines including psychiatry, psychology, sociology, political science, criminology, and social work.

Instructions to Authors
In general, the journal follows the recommendations of the 1994 Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (Fourth Edition), and it is suggested that contributors refer to this publication.
Online Manuscript Submission
Springer now offers authors, editors and reviewers of the Journal of Gambling Studies the use of our fully web−enabled online manuscript submission and review system. To keep the review time as short as possible, we request authors to submit manuscripts online to the journal's editorial office. Our online manuscript submission and review system offers authors the option to track the progress of the review process of manuscripts in real time. 
 The online manuscript submission and review system for the Journal of Gambling Studies offers easy and straightforward log−in and submission procedures. 
 This system supports a wide range of submission file formats:  for manuscripts ?Word, WordPerfect, RTF, TXT and LaTex; for figures ?TIFF, GIF, JPEG, EPS, PPT, and Postscript.

Publication Policies
Submission is a representation that the manuscript has not been published previously and is not currently under consideration for publication elsewhere. A statement transferring copyright from the authors (or their employers, if they hold the copyright) to Human Sciences Press, Inc. will be required before the manuscript can be accepted for publication. The Editors will supply the necessary forms for this transfer. Such a written transfer of copyright, which previously was assumed to be implicit in the act of submitting a manuscript, is necessary under the U.S. Copyright Law in order for the publisher to carry through the dissemination of research results and reviews as widely and effectively as possible.
Manuscript Style
Type double−spaced on one side of 8 ??11 inch white paper using generous margins on all sides, and submit the original and four copies (including copies of all illustrations and tables). All copies must be dark, sharp, and clear. Computer−generated manuscripts must be of letter quality (not dot−matrix).
 Title Page
 A title page is to be provided and should include 

 For office purposes, the title page should include the complete 

 of the one author designated to review proofs.
 Abstract

An abstract is to be provided, preferably no longer than 200 words. The abstract should include the objective of the study (research question, research design used, setting (where data come from), sample size and main characteristics (number female and male, and mean age where applicable), main outcome measures used, major results (should comprise most of the abstract), and major conclusions. |  Key Words

A list of 3? key words is to be provided directly below the abstract. Key words should express the precise content of the manuscript, as they are used for indexing purposes. |  Equations

Equations must be embedded in the text, and important displayed equations identified by consecutive Arabic numerals in parentheses to the right of the equation. Expressions should be aligned, and compound subscripts and superscripts clearly marked if there is potential for confusion. Indicate italic with an underline, and boldface with a wavy underline. Clarify symbols with circled notes in the margins. |  References
 List references alphabetically at the end of the paper and refer to them in the text by name and year in parentheses. Where there are three or more authors, only the first author's name is given in the text, followed by et al.

Footnotes should be avoided. When their use is absolutely necessary, footnotes should be numbered consecutively using Arabic numerals and should be typed at the bottom of the page to which they refer. Place a line above the footnote, so that it is set off from the text. Use the appropriate superscript numeral for citation in the text. |

The journal makes no page charges. Reprints are available to authors, and order forms with the current price schedule are sent with proofs.
