Instructions to Authors

All papers for publication consideration by Information Systems Research should be submitted electronically through Manuscript Central at http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/isr. Authors without Internet access should contact the managing editor to make alternate submission arrangements. Within the submission system, authors must complete all the steps before the system will accept their submission.

The following are submission requirements for Information Systems Research:

  1. Papers should not be more than 32 pages of text and 38 pages including all material (e.g., references, appendixes, tables, figures) that would normally be printed on 8.5x11-inch paper. Additional details (e.g., analytical proofs, psychometric details of the measures, copies of the measurement items, etc.) can be provided in an Appendix as a separate document. If the paper is accepted, the Appendix will be published through an online repository as an Electronic Companion.
  2. Papers should use a 11-point font with one-inch margins on all four sides
  3. Papers should use double-spacing throughout, including abstract, references, and footnotes
  4. Papers should include an easy to read and understandable abstract of not more than 300 words that communicates contribution of the paper to general readers as clearly as possible.
  5. References should be listed alphabetically by author at the end of the paper in conformance with the journal style. In-text citations should be indicated by the author’s last name and year of publication.
  6. Mathematical expressions in the body of the text should be no more complex than necessary. If there are numbered equations, the numbers should be given in parentheses, flush with the right margin of the page. Footnotes should be numbered consecutively and should be indicated in the text by superscript numbers. Material that would normally appear as a footnote should be placed in the body of the text when it will not impair readability.
  7. All figures in the manuscript should clearly be in black and white. The use of color figures is discouraged due to challenges and delays encountered in the production stage.
  8. Authors should nominate two senior editors, two associate editors and a list of five potential reviewers. This information should be provided on the appropriate screens within Manuscript Central. The suggested reviewers should not have a conflict of interest with the author(s). An author has a conflict of interest with: (a) his/her major professor or a student for whom the author has served as major professor, (b) people working at the same institution, (c) co-authors on work completed or in progress during the last four years.
  9. Authors should select as many keywords as possible to describe their paper’s theoretical and methodological orientation. A list of keywords is available within Manuscript Central. Keywords are helpful in the selection of appropriate Senior Editor, Associate Editor, and reviewers.
  10. Keywords should be placed beneath the abstract in the manuscript file.
  11. Author name(s) should not appear in the Body of the paper (including the abstract). Eliminate references to your institutions, your sponsors, your unpublished work, and your published work if done in a way that identifies you as author. To aid in making your paper anonymous, leave Acknowledgements blank until the final version.

When a paper is ready for publication, authors must provide an electronic copy of the final version in Word or TeX.
