About the journal
|
Structural Chemistry is an international forum for the publication of peer-reviewed original research papers that cover the condensed and gaseous states of matter and involve numerous techniques for the determination of structure and energetics, their results, and the conclusions derived from these studies. The journal overcomes the unnatural separation in the current literature among the areas of structure determination, energetics, and applications, as well as builds a bridge to other chemical disciplines. Its comprehensive coverage encompasses broad discussion of results, observation of relationships among various properties, and the description and application of structure and energy information in all domains of chemistry. Topics include: experimental structure determination (X-ray, neutron, and electron diffraction; microwave spectroscopy; NMR, IR, and UV spectroscopies; nuclear techniques); experimental thermochemistry (enthalpies of combustion and reaction, as well as gas-phase ion energetics); other relevant techniques, such as photoelectron spectroscopy. |

2. The Editors encourage authors to list up to five names (with addresses) of potential independent reviewers who are familiar with the area of research reported in the manuscript.
3. Submission is a representation that the manuscript has not been published previously and is not currently under consideration for publication elsewhere. A statement transferring copyright from the authors (or their employers, if they hold the copyright) to Plenum Publishing Corporation will be required before the manuscript can be accepted for publication. The Editor will supply the necessary forms for this transfer. Such a written transfer of copyright, which previously was assumed to be implicit in the act of submitting a manuscript, is necessary under the U.S. Copyright Law in order for the publisher to carry through the dissemination of research results and reviews as widely and effectively as possible.
4. Type double-spaced, and submit the original and two copies (including copies of all illustrations and tables). All copies must be dark, sharp, and clear. Computer-generated manuscripts must be of letter quality (not dot-matrix).
5. A title page is to be provided and should include the title of the article, author's name (no degrees), author's affiliation, and suggested running head. The affiliation should comprise the department, institution (usually university or company), city, and state (or nation) and should be typed as a footnote to the author's name. The suggested running head should be less than 80 characters (including spaces) and should comprise the article title or an abbreviated version thereof. For office purposes, the title page should include the complete mailing address and telephone and fax numbers of the one author designated to review proofs.
6. An abstract is to be provided, preferably no longer than 150?00 words.
7. A list of 4? key words is to be provided directly below the abstract. Key words should express the precise content of the manuscript, as they are used for indexing purposes.
8. All sections should carry headings (such as INTRODUCTION, EXPERIMENTAL, etc.), typed flush left.
9. Mathematical notation and equations should be typewritten wherever possible. If handwritten notation must be used, it should be clear and legible, with any necessary explanatory notes located in the margin. Equations should be numbered consecutively with Arabic numerals in parentheses placed flush right, and should be thusly referred to in the text [such as Eqs. (2) and (6)].
10. Illustrations (photographs, drawings, diagrams, and charts) are to be numbered in one consecutive series of Arabic numerals. The captions for illustrations should be typed on a separate sheet of paper. All illustrations must be complete and final, i.e., camera-ready. Photographs should be large, glossy prints, showing high contrast. Drawings should be prepared with india ink. Either original drawings or good-quality photographic prints are acceptable. Identify figures on the back with author's name and number of the illustration. Reproduction of illustrations in color is possible by special arrangement, with the total cost, which is significant, borne by the author.
11. All structural formulas are to be numbered in one consecutive series of Arabic numerals and so cited in the text. All structural formulas must be complete and final, i.e., camera-ready. Either original drawings or good-quality photographic prints are acceptable. Identify each on the back with author's name and structural-formula number.
12. Tables should be numbered (with Roman numerals) and referred to by number in the text. Each table should be typed on a separate sheet of paper. Center the title above the table, and type explanatory footnotes (indicated by superscript lowercase letters) below the table.
13. List references numerically at the end of the paper. Use the appropriate Arabic numeral in square brackets on the baseline for citation in the text. Where there are three or more authors, only the first author's name is given in the text, followed by et al. References should include (in this order): last names and initials of all authors, name of publication, year published, volume number, and inclusive pages. The style and punctuation of the references should conform to that of the American Chemical Society ?illustrated by the following examples:
Journal Article 1. Fletcher, T. R.; Rosenfeld, R. N. J. Am. Chem. Soc. 1985, 107, 2203.
Book 2. Bockris, J. O.; Reddy, A. K. N. Modern Electrochemistry; Plenum Press: New York, 1970; Vol. 2.
Contribution to a Book 3. Nunes, T. L.; Goldsmith, C. C. In Advances in X-Ray Analysis; Barrett, C. S.; Gilfrich, J. V.; Jenkins, R.; Russ, J. C.; Richardson, J. W., Jr.; Predecki, P. K., Eds.; Plenum Press: New York, 1988; Vol. 31, p. 77.
14. Footnotes should be avoided. When their use is absolutely necessary, footnotes should be numbered consecutively using Arabic numerals and should be typed at the bottom of the page to which they refer. Place a line above the footnote, so that it is set off from the text. Use the appropriate superscript numeral for citation in the text.
15. After a manuscript has been accepted for publication and after all revisions have been incorporated, manuscripts should be submitted to the Editor's Office as hard copy accompanied by electronic files on disk. Label the disk with identifying information ?software, journal name, and first author's last name. The disk must be the one from which the accompanying manuscript (finalized version) was printed out. The Editor's Office cannot accept a disk without its accompanying, matching hard-copy manuscript.
16. The journal makes no page charges. Reprints are available to authors, and order forms with the current price schedule are sent with proofs.
17. Authors are advised to consult the more detailed version of these instructions, "Instructions for Authors," found in Volume 3, Number 1 (February 1992) and in the first issue of subsequent volume-years.
18. Crystallographic Data Prior to submitting your manuscript to the journal you must deposit the data of X-ray structure analyses in a crystallographic database so that referees can access the information electronically.
The two databases, the Cambridge Crystallographic Data Centre (CCDC) and the Fachinformationszentrum Karlsruhe (FIZ), have the same procedure for the deposition of data and both will be pleased to provide help.
1. You should send your data (preferably electronically) to the appropriate address below. In general, you will receive a depository number from the database two working days after electronic deposition.
2. You should then quote the standard text, including the depository number, in your manuscript when it is submitted to the journal. This text will be included as a footnote in the final version of the paper.
3. Before you return your revised manuscript to the journal Editor, please update your database entry if necessary.
CCDC Notes:
o the deposited data will not be archived to the CCDC until the paper has been published. If, after 18 months, the paper has not been published the CCDC will contact the depositor to determine what should be done with the data.
o The preferred mode of deposition is by e-mail as a plain text ASCII file. Wherever possible the CIF format should be used but other formats will be accepted. Guidance for data deposition can be obtained from the CCDC website: http://www.ccdc.cam.ac.uk/conts/depositing.html
