About the journal
Founded in 1954, the International Journal of Disability, Development and Education (IJDDE) is a multi-disciplinary peer-reviewed journal with an international focus. It provides a single source of information on the education and development of persons with disabilities. IJDDE aims to publish the very best research and review articles concerned with all aspects of education, human development, special education and rehabilitation.
The content of IJDDE reflects a variety of topics, disciplines, research methods and cultural perspectives. Various orientations are represented, including education and special education, psychology, allied health, social work and psychiatry. Contributions from developed and developing countries ensure a truly international perspective.

Instructions for Authors:
Publication. The International Journal of Disability, Development and Education (IJDDE) is published four times per year by Routldge, Taylor & Francis group, Informa UK Limited. IJDDE also publishes book reviews written at the invitation of the Book Review Editor.
Articles. The Editor invites articles for consideration concerned with all aspects of theory, research, and practice in the areas of disability, human development, and education. Research, review, and issues oriented articles will be considered as will descriptions or cross-cultural comparisons of education, special education, and rehabilitation in developed and developing countries. Articles of 5,000 to 7,000 words would be considered a typical length and should be accompanied by up to a maximum of six keywords, to assist indexing and subsequent online article retrieval. Brief reports (3,000 to 4,000 words) will also be considered for inclusion in the Journal.
Submissions. Submissions should be original and unpublished work suitable for an international audience and not currently under review by any other journal or publisher. Australian English spelling is used and the Macquarie Dictionary will be followed. References should conform to the style set out in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (2009, 6th edition).
All submissions should be made online at the International Journal of Disability, Development, and Education's Manuscript Central site. New users should first create an account. Once a user is logged onto the site submissions should be made via the Author Centre.
Authors should prepare and upload two versions of their manuscript. One should be a complete (non-anonymous) version of the text, while the second should be an anonymous version which has all information identifying the author(s) removed from the files so it can be sent anonymously to referees. When uploading files authors should designate the non-anonymous version as "File not for review" and the anonymous version as "Main Document".
Manuscripts should be submitted in Times New Roman 12 point font, double line spacing, using the format and reference standard set out in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (2009, 6th edition). A transmittal letter signed by the author should be included. This letter should request review of the manuscript and indicate that the manuscript has not been published nor submitted for publication elsewhere. A cover sheet on the non-anonymous version should include title, running header (not exceeding 50 characters), author(s), affiliation(s), author note, and address (including an email address) for correspondence.
Manuscripts that are selected and verbatim parts of documents available from websites will NOT be accepted for republication. Articles that refer to already published reports available on websites will be published under the following circumstances:
The manuscript needs to make a unique contribution over and above that contained in the original report. This would generally imply that reflective analysis or critical review of the issues has been included and that the material presented has been contextualized appropriately, in addition to other material.
In those instances where such a manuscript is submitted for review, the web address of the original document will need to be included in the manuscript so that reviewers (and potential readers) can access the full document and thereby make a judgement about the additional contribution being made by the manuscript under consideration.
Terminology. IJDDE uses people first language. The general form person with a disability is used rather than disabled person, so descriptions such as a student with cerebral palsy are acceptable. As normal has multiple meanings, more precise terms such as children without a hearing impairment should be used. Generic descriptions such as students, participants, and adults are preferred to the term subjects. IJDDE uses the term intellectual disability rather than mental retardation or learning disability.
Review. Manuscripts are screened by the Editor prior to sending out for review. Manuscripts are sent for double blind peer-review to members of the Editorial Board and Guest Reviewers. The review process generally requires three months. The receipt of submitted manuscripts will be acknowledged by the Editor, from whom a decision and reviewers' comments will be received when the peer-review has been completed.
Final Copy. An electronic copy of the final version of manuscripts accepted for publication will be required. A copy of the manuscript should be retained by the author for proof-reading purposes. A PDF proof o the copy-edited article will be emailed to the corresponding author for correction prior to publication.
Free article access. Corresponding authors will receive free online access to their article through our website (www.informaworld.com) and a complimentary copy of the issue containing their article. Reprints of the articles published in this journal can be purchased through Rightslink® when proofs are received or alternatively on our journal's website. Ethical Standards. Within the Method section, authors should explicitly address issues of ethical approval and informed consent, based on accepted ethical practices and procedures in their own country. Authors should disclose in the "Funding" field of the Author Centre: (a) the source of all research funding, (b) whether the funding body has non-financial conflicts of interest, such as direct or indirect financial benefit
Copyright. It is a condition of publication that authors assign copyright or licence the publication rights in their articles, including abstracts, to Taylor & Francis. This enables us to ensure full copyright protection and to disseminate the article, and of course the Journal, to the widest possible readership in print and electronic formats as appropriate. Authors retain many rights under the Taylor & Francis rights policies, which can be found at www.informaworld.com/authors_journals_copyright_position.
