About the journal
The Journal of Difference Equations and Applications presents state-of-the-art papers on difference equations and the academic, and applied problems in which they arise. The journal is composed of original research, expository and review articles, and papers that present novel concepts in application and techniques.
Contributions may be related to applications of difference equations in combinatorics, special functions and orthogonal polynomials, mathematical biology, chaos theory, non-linear dynamics, complex dynamics, numerical analysis, functional equations, oscillation theory, discrete control in engineering, computational linear algebra, and other fields and specialities at the editors' discretion.
Instructions to Authors
Manuscripts. All submissions will be subject to the normal process of peer review. Please submit three copies of your manuscript, typed on one side of the paper and double spaced, as well as an electronic version on disk (see below) to: Saber Elaydi, Editor-in-Chief, Department of Mathematics, Trinity University, 1 Trinity Place, San Antonio, TX 78212-7200, USA; Open Problems Editor: Gerry Ladas, Editor-in-Chief, Department of Mathematics, University of Rhode Island, Kingston, RI 02881-0816, USA. Contributors should note that material submitted to the journal must be original, must not have already appeared in another publication and must not be submitted for publication elsewhere while under consideration by the journal.
Short Notes. Must be limited to four pages, including references, and should be submitted directly to either professor Robert J. Sacker, Department of Mathematics, University of Southern California, Los Angeles, California 90089-1113, USA or Professor Timothy D. Sauer, Department of Mathematics, George Mason University, Fairfax, Virginia 22030, USA.
Please make sure your contact address information is clearly visible on the outside of all packages you are sending to Editors.
Disk submissions. Authors should send the final, revised version of their article in both hard copy (paper) and electronic (disk) forms. It is essential that the hard copy (paper) version exactly match the material on disk. Please print out the hard copy from the disk you are sending. Submit three printed copies of the final version with the disk to the journal's editorial office. Save all files on a standard 3.5-inch high-density disk. We prefer to receive disks in TeX or LateX, but can translate from most other common word-processing programs as well as Macs. Please specify which program you have used. Do not save your files as "text only" or "read only".
Title Page. The title of the paper and the author(s) name(s) should appear at the beginning of the paper. All pages of the manuscript must be numbered. All manuscripts should include full correspondence details (street address, telephone, fax and email addresses) of the corresponding author.
Abstracts and Keywords. The language of this publication is English. Each paper requires an abstract of 100-150 words summarizing the significant coverage and findings. Each paper must have three to six keywords. American Mathematical Society Classification Codes: In addition to keywords, authors should provide relevant codes from the AMS Classification system. Conclusion & Future Directions: It is highly recommended that the author include, at the end of the paper, a short section indicating future directions that may be pursued in the context of this research.
Tables and figures. Tables must be typed on separate sheets and not included at part of the text. The captions to illustrations should be gathered and typed on a separate sheet. Tables should be numbered by Roman numerals and figures by Arabic numerals. The approximate position of tables and figures should be indicated in the paper. Please supply clear copies of artwork (preferably the originals) for figures in a finished format suitable for reproduction. Figures will not normally be redrawn by the publisher. The author(s) must arrange permission for the reproduction of illustrations and tables within articles. Figures may be sent electronically, preferably in either TIFF (tagged image format) or EPS (encapsulated Postscript) formats. However, we can also accept PICT or JPEG formats.
Colour pages. There are a limited number of colour pages within the annual page allowance. However, authors should restrict their use of colour to situations where it is necessary on scientific, and not merely cosmetic, grounds. In addition, authors may pay to publish colour illustrations, but please consult the publisher regarding cost before submission
Equations. Where possible, mathematical equations should be typewritten, with subscripts and superscripts clearly shown. It is helpful to identify unusual or ambiguous symbols in the margin when they first occur. To simplify typesetting, please use: (1) the "exp" form for complex exponential functions; (2) fractional exponents instead of root signs; and (3) the solidus (/) to simplify fractions - e.g., exp x?/SUP>
Marking: The typesetter will set mathematical symbols in italics, except for obvious groups like sin and log. Any symbols that are to be left in roman (upright) type should be circled in pencil in the typescript; bold symbols should be underlined with a wavy line.
References. References are indicated in the text by consecutive arabic numerals enclosed in square brackets, viz, Smith [1]. The full list should be collected and typed at the end of the paper in numerical order. Listed references should be complete in all details, and conform to the style of Bulletin of the American Mathematical Society. Authors' initials should precede their names; journal title abbreviations should follow the style of Mathematical Reviews Index. Examples:
[1] K.A. Eliot, Quantum Theory, Vol. 1, Pangaea, New York, 1987, pp. 68-79.
[2] H. Xue-Zhong, Global Stability of N-Dimensional Nonautonomous Lotka-Volterra System, Appl. Anal. 50 (1993), 253-262.
Early Electronic Offprints:. Corresponding authors can now receive their article by e-mail as a complete PDF. This allows the author to print up to 50 copies, free of charge, and disseminate them to colleagues. In many cases this facility will be available up to two weeks prior to publication. Or, alternatively, corresponding authors will receive the traditional 50 offprints. A copy of the journal will be sent by post to all corresponding authors after publication. Additional copies of the journal can be purchased at the author’s preferential rate of ?5.00/$25.00 per copy.
Copyright. It is a condition that authors vest copyright in their articles, including abstracts, in Taylor & Francis Ltd. This enables us to ensure full copyright protection and to disseminate the article, and the journal, to the widest possible readership in print and electronic formats as appropriate. Authors may use their article elsewhere after publication provided that prior permission is obtained from Taylor & Francis Ltd. Authors are themselves responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyright material from other sources.
Proprietary Terms/Trade Marks
When using a word which is or is asserted to be a proprietary term or trade mark, authors must use the symbol ?or TM or alternatively a footnote can be inserted using the wording below: This article includes a word which is or is asserted to be a proprietary term or trade mark. Its inclusion does not imply it has acquired for legal purposes a non-proprietary or general significance, nor is any other judgement implied concerning its legal status.
