Established in 1922 as Boletín Panamericano de Sanidad, it subsequently became known as Boletín de la Oficina Sanitaria Panamericana until 1997, when it merged with its English-language counterpart, Bulletin of the Pan American Health Organization (established in 1966), to form the multilingual publication that exists today. The RPSP/PAJPH contains materials in three languages--Spanish, English, and Portuguese—for the benefit of the greater community of public health professionals in the American Region. As its title suggests, the RPSP/PAJPH is devoted to the field of public health, particularly to the presentation of original research dealing with disease trends in the Region from a population perspective. It also presents analytical and research papers on public health policy, disease prevention and control programs and strategies, issues related to human resources, public health research methodology, health systems and services, and public health practice throughout the Region. Opinion papers and letters to the editor are published on a regular basis. Submissions go through a peer review process, and materials are selected for publication in light of PAHO’s fundamental mission: to support and coordinate all efforts on the part of Member States to preserve health, fight disease, prolong life, and foster the physical, mental, and social well-being of their inhabitants. The RPSP/PAJPH is published in electronic format as well as in print. It has a pressrun of 7,000, and subscribers are located throughout the American continent and other parts of the world, including Africa, Asia, Europe, and Oceania. Instructions to Authors GENERAL INFORMATION Objectives and Readership The  Revista Panamericana de Salud Pública/Pan American Journal of Public Health (RPSP/PAJPH) is a trilingual (English, Spanish, Portu-guese) publication that in 1997 replaced the Boletún de la Oficina Sanitaria Panamericana and the Bulletin of the Pan American Health Organization. Like its predecessors, the RPSP/PAJPH offers researchers in the Region of the Americas a scientifically validated, peer-reviewed outlet for pub-lic health research findings. It also catalogs the conceptual, social, and political trends indicating the general direction of public health in the countries of the Americas. The RPSP/PAJPH is indexed as Rev Panam Salud Publica in Current Contents/Social & Behavioral Sciences, Social Sciences Citation Index, Index Medicus/MEDLINE/PubMed, EMBASE, LILACS, SciELO Salud Pública, and many other bibliographic databases. It is distributed to health science professionals, technicians, researchers, professors, and students, both in the Americas and other parts of the world. It is also available in the leading biomedical libraries. The RPSP/PAJPH also has its own interactive Web site (http://journal.paho.org/), where its full contents are available for downloading free of cost and where persons can register to receive a monthly table of contents alert.
