About the journal

This journal is an official organ of the Society for Plant Biochemistry and Biotechnology, Division of Biochemistry, Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi 110012, India and is published twice a year (January and July), with the main aim/objective of advancing research in Plant Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Microbial Genetic, Genomics, Bioinformatics and Biotechnology. The peer reviewed research papers are published in the areas of plant biochemistry, plant molecular biology, microbial and molecular genetics, DNA fingerprinting, micro-propagation, and plant biotechnology including plant genetic engineering, genomics and bioinformatics. Review articles in the above mentioned areas are also published.

Instructions to Authors

The Journal publishes review articles, research papers, short communications and commentaries in the areas of plant biochemistry, plant molecular biology, microbial and molecular genetics, DNA finger printing, micropropagation, and plant biotechnology including plant genetic engineering, genomics & bioinformatics. The authors are requested to send their articles, and names and e-mail addresses of 4 potential reviewers to Chief Editor [Emails: sharmatr@nrcpb.org; editorjpbb@gmail.com]. Review articles in the above mentioned areas will be accepted. However, for this prior permission of the Chief Editor may be obtained. Chief Editor on the advice of Editorial Board members may also invite review articles from scientists. The length of the review article must not exceed 5000 words including tables and illustrations. Page charges for authors who are not members of the Society would be @ Rs.200 (US $ 20) per page. All the manuscripts will be refereed. The responsibility for statements in the article rests entirely with the authors thereof. The authors are advised to follow the following style while preparing the manuscript.

General: Each full length research paper must not exceed 3,000 words including tables and illustrations.

Short communications are accepted but their length should be restricted to about 1500 words. Commentaries from eminent scientists on the current topics related to the theme of journal will also be accepted limited to 1000 words. Manuscripts should be typed on one side of the bond paper of 22x28 cm, double spaced. While the short communication will have only title, authors’ name and address, abstract, key words, followed by text and references without headings, the full length paper should have the following headings.

Short Title : A short title, not exceeding 35 letters, should be typed at the top of first page in first letters capitals and underlined.

Title : The title should be short and informative, typed in first letters capital.

Authors : Names of authors to be typed in first letters capital.

Address : Address of the institution where the work was carried out. Footnote should indicate the author for correspondence.

Main Headings : Each full-length research paper should be divided into the following main headings which are to be bold and typed in first letters capitals on the left hand side of the page: Abstract, Introduction: Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, References.

Sub-headings : Typed flush left in first letter capital, bold and italicized.

Abstract : A brief abstract, not exceeding 200 words should be typed after address.

Key words : The Abstract should be followed by about five key words indicating the contents of the manuscript.

Introduction : Introduction should be brief and pertinent.

Materials and Methods : Materials and Methods should include the source and nature of material, experimental design and the techniques employed. Wherever standard methods have been followed, only reference should be given.

Results : Results should contain data which are essential for drawing main conclusion from the study. Wherever needed the data should be statistically analysed. Same data should not be presented in tables and figure form.

Discussion : The discussion should deal with the interpretation of the results. Wherever possible, Results and Discussion can be combined.

Tables : Tables should be typed on separate sheets, each with a heading. Tables should be typed with the first letter capital, table number in Arabic numerals, followed by a period.

Figures : For each figure submit a glossy print or original drawing. Photomicrographs should have a scale bar. Line drawings should be roughly twice the final printed single column size of 7.5 cm width. Text figures should be numbered in Arabic numerals. Captions and legends to illustrations should be typed on a separate sheet of paper. Line drawings and photograph should contain figure number and authors’ name, on the back with soft lead pencil. Colour photographs will be printed if author(s) pay Rs 2000/- (or US $ 50) per page as processing charges.

References : References should be cited in the text by number in brackets. References should be numbered in the order in which they appear in the text. Use conventional abbreviations for names of well known Journals. Each reference should provide: name(s) of the authors (in bold) followed by Journal Name (italicized), Volume No. (in bold), Year in bracket and page No. The style of references should be :

  1. Schubert KR & Evans HJ, Proc Natl Acad Sci, USA, 73 (1976) 1207.
  2. Renaud CS, Pasternak JJ & Glick BR, Arch Microbial, 152 (1989) 437.
  3. Vincent JM, A manual for the practical study of root nodule bacteria, Blackwell Scientific Publications, Oxford (1970).
  4. Larkins BA, In The biochemistry of plants, vol 6 (PK Stumpf, EE Conn, Editors), Academic Press, New York (1981) pp 449-489.

Abbreviations : Use standard abbreviations. Some of the common abbreviations are given below:

A (absorbance); h (hour); min (minutes); sec (seconds); cpm (counts per minute); Ci (Curie); mol wt (molecular weight); kD (kilo Dalton); kb (kilo base); sp act (specific activity); wt (weight); SD (standard deviation); SE (standard error); DAF (days after flowering)
