APJCN will publish original research reports, reviews and short communications. News, book reviews and other items will also be included. The acceptance criteria for all papers are the quality and originality of the research and its significance to our readership. Except where otherwise stated, manuscripts are peer-reviewed by two anonymous reviewers and the Editor. The Editorial Board reserves the right to refuse any material for publication and advises that authors should retain copies of submitted manuscripts and correspondence as material cannot be returned. Final acceptance or rejection rests with the Editorial Board.

| GUIDELINES FOR CONTRIBUTORS |
Asia Pacific Journal of Clinical Nutrition will publish original research reports, reviews, short communications and letters to the editors. Letters to the editors may take several forms: they may be either very short articles (500 words) containing new material, they may be case reports, or they may be comments on previous papers or on other topics of current interest. News, book reviews and other items will also be included.
Spelling. Use the Oxford English Dictionary or Webster's Dictionary. Please indicate your preference and stick to one or the other. If you do not specify, we will use the Oxford English Dictionary by default.
General. Three copies of each paper are required: the top copy must be an original and be free of written comments or marks. If you wish to make changes to the typescript, these should be added to copies 2-3. Three sets of illustrations are required. Only one set need be suitable for reproduction, the other sets can be good quality photocopies. Please note that the requirements in this paragraph do not entail direct reproduction from authors' camera-ready copy, but relate only to the data capture stage of typesetting by means of optical character recognition.
In addition to the printed copies, please include the entire paper on a 3.5 inch diskette. All figures should be saved as separate files. The preferred format is a Windows compatible program. Indicate on the label which programs and versions were used for copy and figures.
Typescripts must be double-spaced on one side of the paper only, including the title page, text (organised using appropriate headings introduction, methods, results, discussion, etc), acknowledgments, references, tables (each table to appear on a new page), and figure captions. Each manuscript component must begin on a new page. All pages should be numbered and have line numbers on all text pages.
On the title page include: title; subtitle (if any); initials and surname of each author; the professional qualifications of each author, name of authors' departments and institutions, city and country. To give departments and institutions of contributing authors, use footnotes using the conventional footnote symbols such as asterisks, daggers or letters. To avoid confusion with references, do not use superior numbers for these distinctions.
On a separate page, repeat the title and authors' names and give the full name, postal address, telephone number and fax number of the author who will be responsible for all correspondence regarding the manuscript, proofs and offprints. This is essential. If you wish any of this information not to be published, please indicate your wishes.
Copyright. Submission implies that all material is free from copyright restriction. If figures have been previously published elsewhere, authors are requested to obtain permission for reproduction and to attach these letters of permission to the typescript.
Abbreviations. Please explain any abbreviations unless immediately obvious.
References. References should be typed double-spaced, consecutively, beginning on a new page. Use the 'Vancouver' style of references. In the text use numbers in parentheses. List the references at the end of the typescript, numerically, in the order in which they are referred to in the text. Examples of reference style are as follows. Please note that no italic or bold is required in references. Do not underline any part. Use capital letters sparingly. Do not place full stops between initials.

Figures and tables. Illustrations should be carefully chosen and make a valid point in the construction of the article, otherwise they may be omitted. Half-tone figures should be submitted as photographs (glossy prints). Colour reproduction will not be possible unless the cost is met by the contributor; please contact the publishers for further details. Where possible, in the interests of speedy publication illustrations must be supplied in the size in which they will be reproduced. This will correspond to a single column width (80 mm) or occasionally double column (185 mm). Figures larger than this will be reduced; please take account of this when considering the size of lettering, the thickness of rules and lines and the density of tints and hatching. Legends should be typed consecutively and double-spaced on a separate sheet of paper.
Tables should be typed double-spaced on separate sheets, with number and title. Omit internal horizontal and vertical lines.
Miscellaneous. Numbers one to ten are spelled out in full unless used in conjunction with units (eg 5 ml, 6 mm but five patients), numbers above ten appear as 11, 101, 1001, 10,001. Also (example above) eg and ie will be printed without stops. Type out the words per cent when the number is spelled out, but use the % symbol when using numbers.
