Social Development is a major international journal dealing with all aspects of children's social development as seen from a psychological stance. It provides an outlet for empirical reports, debates and comments on theoretical and empirical issues, literature reviews and in-depth book reviews.
The main focus of Social Development is on development in childhood with lifespan, cross-species and cross-cultural perspectives enhancing our understanding of human development also explored. Coverage includes a wide range of topics such as social cognition, peer relationships, social interaction, attachment formation, emotional development and children's theories of mind. It is essential reading for developmental psychologists, social psychologists and all those concerned with teaching or research in the field of social development.
Social Development is published 4 times per year.

Instructions to Authors

- The manuscript should be double-spaced throughout, using a conventional size of paper. Please number pages consecutively, with the title page as page 1 and a brief abstract (between 100 and 150 words) as page 2. The title should also appear on the first page of the text. An abbreviated version of the title should be supplied by the author for page heads, consisting of no more than 40 characters. Please provide about 4 keywords, to be typed at the bottom of the Abstract. Manuscripts must not exceed 10,000 words.
- In order to facilitate blind reviewing it is the author's responsibility to eliminate any identifying information from pages other than the title page. On this page please give under your name the institution with which you are connected; also include your full mailing address in the footnote.
- Tables and figures should be drawn on separate pages at the end of the article; their placement should be indicated in the body of the text.
- Footnotes should only be used in the text if absolutely necessary and indicated on a separate sheet at the end of the article.
- References should follow the style indicated in the most recent edition of the Publications Manual of the American Psychological Association
There are several software packages available to help authors manage and format the references and footnotes in their journal article. We recommend the use of a software tool such as EndNote or Reference Manager for reference management and formatting.

- Authors should retain one copy of the manuscript. In case of rejection, manuscripts regretfully cannot be returned.
- A condition of acceptance for publication in this journal is that work has been conducted in accordance with guidelines on the ethics of research such as those published by the American Psychological Association or the British Psychological Society.
- Authors will be required to sign an Exclusive Licence Form (ELF) for all papers accepted for publication. Signature of the ELF is a condition of publication and papers will not be passed to the publisher for production unless a signed form has been received. Please note that signature of the Exclusive Licence Form does not affect ownership of copyright in the material. (Government employees need to complete the Author Warranty sections, although copyright in such cases does not need to be assigned). After submission authors will retain the right to publish their paper in various media/circumstances (please see the form for further details). To assist authors an appropriate form will be supplied by the editorial office. Alternatively, authors may like to download a copy of the form here.
