Journal of Thrombosis and Thrombolysis |
|
An International Journal for Clinicians and Scientists |
|
The Journal of Thrombosis and Thrombolysis is a long-awaited resource for contemporary cardiologists, hematologists and clinician-scientists actively involved in treatment decisions and clinical investigation of thrombotic disorders involving the cardiovascular and cerebrovascular systems. Its principal focus centers on the pathobiology of thrombosis and the use of anticoagulants, platelet antagonists and thrombolytic agents in scientific investigation and patient care. The journal publishes original work that interlinks basic scienctific principles with clinical investigation, thus creating a unique forum for interdisciplinary dialogue. Published works will advocate the development of solid platforms for planned clinical research and precise, clinically-applicable benchwork. The Journal of Thrombosis and Thrombolysis's comprehensive and interdisciplinary design will expand the reader's knowledge base and provide important insights for the most rapidly growing field in medicine. The journal seeks original manuscripts devoted to laboratory investigation and clinical studies. State-of-the-art reviews and editorials will be summoned by invitation. The journal will closely follow new trends on the cutting edge of the field and highlight drugs in the early stages of development which may warrant testing in the clinical arena. Updates of major national and international clinical trials will also be provided, as will a forum of guidelines for interpreting the results of these trials from a patient care perspective. The Journal will publish an ongoing educational series of topics applicable to clinician scientists that will include such topics as: `Seminars in Thrombosis, Thromboysis and Vascular Biology' and a 6-part series on `Hematology for the Cardiologist'. Manuscripts submitted must not be under consideration by an other journal and should not have been published elsewhere in similar form. All articles will be refereed by two qualified referees. All clinical trials being considered for publication will also be reviewed by a statistician. A response will be provided within four weeks of receipt. |

Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals.
This journal accepts articles prepared in conformation with the Vancouver style as defined in the New England Journal of Medicine 1991;324:424-428.
Manuscript Preparation (Articles)
Manuscripts must be submitted in English in triplicate (one original and two copies) and typed double-spaced on A4 metric 22 x 29 cm (8 1/2 x 11 in.) white bond paper. This applies to all parts of the manuscript, including references, legends, etc. Liberal margins (2.5 cm, 1 in.) should be left at the top and bottom, as well as at the sides. The manuscript should be submitted in the following order: title page, abstract, abbreviated abstract, keywords, text, references, tables, illustrations or figures and legends. Each page, beginning with the abstract, should also include the senior author‘s surname typed in the upper left-hand corner. Authors should retain a copy for reference as manuscripts will not be returned. Abbreviations should be kept to a minimum and must be explained when they first appear; after the first use, an abbreviation may be used.
Title page
The title page of each manuscript should include only (i) article title; (ii) authors?names (including first and middle names and degrees); (iii) name and address of the institution(s) from which the work originated, plus information about grants (including city and state of all foundations, funds, and institutions); (iv) name, address, telephone, fax numbers and e-mail address of person to whom proofs and reprint requests should be addressed, (v) any necessary footnotes to these items; and (vi) a running title not exceeding 45 letters and spaces.
Abstract page
The page following the title page should include a brief structured abstract of no more than 400 words describing the background, methods, results, and conclusions of the study. In the background section the purpose of the study should be described.
Keywords
Up to four keywords or terms must be provided for indexing. Include words already in the title.
Text
The text of the article should begin on a new page and have the following parts: introduction, methods, statistics, results, discussion, and acknowledgments (including sources of financial support).
References
For details, see Now England Journal of Medicine 1991;324:424-428.
Personal communications, manuscripts in preparation, and other unpublished data are not cited in the reference list but may be mentioned in the text in parentheses.
References are to be numbered and cited in the order in which they appear except for reviews. The reference section should be typed double-spaced at the end of the text, following the sample formats given below. All authors?names must be provided for up to six individuals; when there are seven or more authors, list the first three and add et al. It is the responsibility of the author(s) to verify all references. Journal Article:
Language Correction
Authors submitting articles requiring significant grammatical or spelling or stylistic corrections will be charged a processing fee.
Figures and Tables
Include a photocopy of each figure above the legend. Original figures must be submitted as unmounted clear glossy prints with lettering large enough to be legible in the event of half-size reduction. Submit one glossy print 13 cm x 18 cm (5 in x 7 in) and two photocopies of each figure. If the photocopies are not adequate for evaluation, as may be the case for photomicrographs, submit three glossy prints. On the back of each figure, give first author‘s name, the figure number, and indicate the top with an arrow. Do not write directly on the back of the figure; rather, write on a gummed label and affix it to the back of the figure. Do not use paper clips or staples; submit figures in an envelope backed by cardboard.
Each figure should have a separate, explicit legend, typed double spaced on a sheet separate from the text. Figure numbers should be arabic corresponding to the order in which the figures are presented in the text. Identify all abbreviations appearing on the figure in alphabetical order at the end of each legend.
Estimates for color work will be provided upon acceptance of the manuscript. All costs of printing color will be charged to the authors.
Tables should be typed double-spaced, each on a separate sheet, with title above and any notes below. Explain all abbreviations. Tables and table numbers should be arabic, corresponding to the order in which the tables are presented in the text. Do not give the same information in tables and figures. You must obtain permission to use all tables that have already been published.
Letters to the Editor
Letters should follow the same general rules for articles, except that a separate title page and summary are not required. A table or figure may be included. If references are needed they should follow the standard format. The full names and addresses of the writers should follow the text.
Style
The Journal of Thrombosis and Thrombolysis follows the general style, abbreviation style, and reference style described in "Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals" (see Ann Intern Med 1982;96:766-71 or Br Med J 1982;284:1766-1770 ).
For additional abbreviations, consult the Council of Biology Editors Style Manual (available from the Council of Biology Editors, 9650 Rockville Pike, Bethesda, MD 20814, USA) or other standard sources. Abbreviation of journal names should follow the style of List of Journals Indexed in Index Medicus (available from the Superintendent of Documents, U.S. Government Printing Office, Washington, D.C. 20402, USA, DHEW Publication No. (NIH) 88-267; ISSN 0093-3821). For drug reference, use generic names only, following in parentheses after first mention by any commonly used variant generic.
Proofs and Offprints
Proofs must be returned within 8 days of receipt; later return may cause a delay in publication of an article. Please check text, tables, legends, and references carefully. To expedite publication, page proofs, rather than galleys, will be sent to the author. Alterations other than the correction of printing errors will be charged to the author(s). Order information for offprints will accompany authors?proofs.
All authors submitting original research papers should include an assigned exclusive publication statement, as follows:
I certify that none of the material in this manuscript has been published previously and none of this material is currently under consideration for publication elsewhere. This includes symposia, proceedings, transactions, books, articles published by invitation, and preliminary publications of any kind except an abstract of 400 words or less.
