About the journal
|
The Journal of Global Optimization publishes carefully refereed papers dealing with every theoretical, computational and applicational aspect of global optimization. In a global optimization problem, global optima are sought, although local optima different from the global one exist. Optimization is understood in the widest sense including, for example, nonlinear, stochastic and combinatorial programming, multiobjective programming, control, games, geometry and approximation as well as nonlinear systems, algorithms for parallel architectures, etc. Besides research articles and expository papers on theory and algorithms of global optimization, papers on numerical experiments and on applications in engineering, management and the sciences are welcome. Journal of Global Optimization explicitly invites submissions dealing with (possibly unsolved) problems arising from applications. Short communications on open and solved global optimization problems will be published in a Problems Section. The journal will also publish reviews of appropriate books and special issues of journals. |

Instructions to Authors
- Manuscripts of all contributions should be in English, and four copies should be sent to:
Kluwer Academic Publishers Editorial Office Journal of Global Optimization P.O. Box 990 3300 AZ Dordrecht The Netherlands
- Manuscripts should be typewritten on one side of white paper with double spacing and wide left- and right-hand margins.
- Only original papers will be considered, and the author(s) must provide assurance that the paper has not been published, or submitted for publication, elsewhere.
- Name, affiliation, and full address of the author(s) including address for correspondence should be stated on the title page.
- An abstract should be included with papers which should be concise, indicate both the objectives and results of the research, and be a complete statement in itself.
- In addition, 3-5 key words should be supplied, for use in indexing.
- No formal limit is set for the length of a paper, but the editors may recommend condensation where appropriate.
- SI units should be adopted throughout the manuscript. All symbols should be clearly identified on the manuscript to avoid confusion in typesetting. If considered useful, a nomenclature can be included.
- References should be listed in alphabetical and chronological order. Abbreviations should be avoided with the exception of J. (for "journal") and the abbreviation of internationally well-known societies.
- Preferred forms of articles in journals, books and reference to books are:
Betr? B. and Schoen, F. (1987), Sequential Stopping Rules for the Multistart Algorithm in Global Optimization, Mathematical Programming 38, 271-280.
Gomulka, J. (1975), Remarks on Branin‘s Method for Solving Nonlinear Equations, in Dixon, L. C. W. and Szeg? G. P. (eds.), Towards Global Optimization, North-Holland, Amsterdam.
Horst, R. and Tuy, H. (1990), Global Optimization (Deterministic Approaches), Springer, Berlin.
References in the text should appear as: Betr?and Schoen (1987), etc.
- Figures must be photographically reproducible. Line drawings, including lettering, must be clear and sharp and should be suitable for reduction. Half-tone photographs should be of high contrast and be marked with any legend the author wishes to appear in the final form. Each figure should be numbered, and a list of captions appended to the manuscript. Figures should also be submitted in triplicate.
Authors will be asked, upon acceptance of an article, to transfer copyright of the article to the publisher. This will ensure the widest possible dissemination of information under copyright laws.
Footnotes
Footnotes should be kept to an absolute minimum and used only when essential.
Formulae
Formulae should be type-written whenever possible. Alternatively, a fine drawing pen and black ink should be used. It is extremely important that all mathematical symbols and letters used are identified and listed and that the required style of appearance of such symbols is clearly indicated, e.g., bold face, italics, script, outline, fraktur, etc. Sub- and superscript should be clearly indicated where confusion might arise. Use a full stop as a decimal sign. Identify in the margin any symbols that might be confused with similar symbols, e.g., letter l and figure 1, capital letter O and figure 0, letter e, epsilon, and element sign, etc.
Tables
Tables, which should be typed on separate sheets, must be numbered consecutively with roman numerals and have titles. They should be prepared in such a manner that no break is necessary. The use of vertical lines in tables is strongly discouraged.
The approximate required locations of the tables should be indicated in the left-hand margin of the manuscript.
Proofs
Proofs will be sent to the corresponding author by e-mail (if no e-mail address is available or appears to be out of order, proofs will be sent by regular mail).
Your response, with or without corrections, should be sent within 72 hours. Please do not make any changes to the PDF file. Minor corrections (+/- 10) should be sent as an e-mail attachment to: proofscorrection@wkap.nl. Always quote the four-letter journal code and article number and the PIPS No. from your proof in the subject field of your e-mail. Extensive corrections must be clearly marked on a printout of the PDF file and should be sent by first-class mail (airmail overseas).
Offprints
The publisher will provide each first-named author with 50 free offprints of his paper free of charge. Additional offprints can be ordered (both hard copies and PDF files).
Page Charges
No page charges are levied on authors or their institutions.
Book Reviews
The Journal will publish reviews of:
- books on global optimization and related areas
- special issues of journals devoted to the theory and applications of global optimization
- proceedings of conferences devoted to global optimization or related areas.
The review should be written according to the same standards as in other optimization journals. Please send material for review to: Professor Panos M. Pardalos 303 Weil Hall Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering University of Florida, Gainesville FL 32611, U.S.A.
Problems Section
Short communications on open and solved global optimization problems will be published in a Problems Section. Manuscripts for this section should observe the standards which are explained at the end of the first issue of each volume. They should be submitted directly to: Professor Pierre Hansen Editor, Open Problems Section Journal of Global Optimization GERAD, Ecoles des Hautes Etudes Commerciales 5255, Avenue Decelles Montréal H3T 1V6 Canada
