About the journal
|
The Journal of Computer-Aided Molecular Design provides a form for disseminating information on both the theory and the application of computer-based methods in the analysis and design of molecules. The scope of the journal encompasses papers which report new and original research and applications in the following areas:
- theoretical chemistry;
- computational chemistry;
- computer and molecular graphics;
- molecular modeling;
- protein engineering;
- drug design;
- expert systems;
- general structure-property relationships;
- molecular dynamics;
- chemical database development and usage.
Contributions on computer-aided molecular modeling studies in pharmaceutical, polymer, materials and surface sciences, as well as other molecular-based disciplines, are particularly welcome. As of Volume 15, a number of issues per volume will be dedicated to Perspectives in Drug Discovery and Design and from time to time overviews will be included in `regular' JCAMD issues. Perspectives in Drug Discovery and Design was established to publish succinct overviews of current developments in the multidisciplinary area of drug discovery and design. The intended scope of Perspectives in Drug Discovery and Design is greater than that of specialty journals and draws from fields both central and supplementary to those of drug discovery and design. In each thematic issue invited experts provide recent developments, highlight opportunities and indicate current limitations concerning the use of computers in drug discovery and design. Articles are by invitation only from guest editors chosen for their overall expertise in the area, and are refereed in order to ensure the highest quality and breadth of coverage. |

Instructions to Authors
Submission of Manuscripts
For the purpose of refereeing, papers for publication should initially be submitted in hardcopy (fourfold) and on diskette to: The Journals Editorial Office JCAM Kluwer Academic Publishers P.O. Box 990 3300 AZ Dordrecht The Netherlands
In the cover letter, the author should recommend one of the editors (F. Gago, B. Shoichet or A. Leach) as the person to coordinate the refereeing procedure.
Kluwer Academic Publishers request the submission of manuscripts and figures in electronic form. The preferred storage medium for your electronic manuscript is a 3.5 inch diskette. Please label your diskette properly, giving exact details on the name of the file(s), the operating system and software used.
In addition to traditional hard copy manuscript submission (see below) and with the increased demand for online/e-mail submission, authors are encouraged to submit manuscripts as pdf files to:
jcamd@wkap.nl
Please include a covering letter and indicate which Editor-in-Chief you would prefer to co-ordinate the review process. The reviewing procedure will then be conducted as much as possible by e-mail. Word documents are also acceptable provided figures have been patched into the main text.
Always save your electronic manuscript in the wordprocessor format that you use. In general, use as few formatting codes as possible. It is important that you supply us with the latest version of your manuscript. For safety's sake, you should always retain a backup copy of your file(s). After acceptance, please make absolutely sure that you have send the latest (i.e., revised) version of your manuscript, both as hard-copy printout and on diskette (submission in electronic form of the final version of your article is compulsory).
Kluwer Academic Publishers prefer papers submitted in word processing packages such as MS Word, WordPerfect, etc. under operating systems MS DOS, Windows and Apple Macintosh, or in the file format LaTeX. Papers submitted in any other software programs can also be accepted.
For submission in LaTeX, Kluwer Academic Publishers have developed a special preprint LaTeX style file, KLUWER.STY, which is used for all Kluwer journals, irrespective of the publication's size or layout. The specific journal characteristics are added later during the production process. KLUWER.STY is offered at a number of servers around the world. Unfortunately, these copies are often unauthorised and authors are strongly advised not to use them.
Kluwer Academic Publishers can only guarantee the integrity of style files obtained directly from us. Although KLUWER.STY is very similar to ARTICLE.STY, there are some differences. These are explained in the accompanying instruction file KAPINS.TEX. Authors can obtain KLUWER.STY at the following website: http://www.wkap.nl/authors/jrnlstylefiles/ Technical support on the usage of the style file is given via the e-mail number: texhelp@wkap.nl
Manuscript Presentation
The journal's language is English. 'American' or 'British' English may be used. The article should, however, follow one style only. Manuscripts should be typewritten on A4 or US Letter bond paper, one side only, leaving enough margin on all sides to permit remarks by the reviewers. Please double-space all materials, including notes and references. Quoted passages of more than 40 words should be set off clearly from the text either by indenting the left-hand margin or by smaller size.
Number the pages consecutively with the first page containing article type, title, author(s), affiliation, full address for correspondence, including phone, fax and e-mail number, 5 to 10 key words in alphabetical order, a short summary of 100 to 250 words, and abbreviations if applicable. Since the summary and the key words will be used to select appropriate reviewers, it is essential to make them as informative as possible.
Article types
Full-length papers, short communications, perspectives and reviews.
Symbols and units
SI units should be used. All nomenclature should be consistent, conforming to the recommendations of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry, International Union of Biochemistry, and other appropriate bodies.
Figures and Tables
Kluwer Academic Publishers accept electronic submission of figures. Preferred file formats are TIFF (Tagged Image File Format) and Encapsulated PostScript (resolution between 300 and 600 dpi), but figures in other electronic formats may also be used. File names should not be longer than 8 characters. A printout of all figures should be supplied with the hardcopy manuscript. Acceptable media for electronic figures are 3.5 inch diskette, ZIP disk or CD.
Submit only clear reproductions of artwork. Authors should retain original artwork until a manuscript has been accepted in its final version. All figures must be in a form suitable for reproduction (lettering must be big enough to allow for reduction). Original ink drawings or laser printer output reproduce best, but if they are not available, same-sized glossies or matt photostats are acceptable. Photographs should be in black and white on glossy paper. Computer prints are acceptable for figures only if they are done on a high-quality laserprinter. If a figure contains colour, make it absolutely clear whether it should be printed in colour or black-and-white.
Each figure and table should be mentioned in the text and should be numbered. On the reverse side of each figure, write in pencil the name of the (first) author and the figure number. Figures and tables should be placed at the end of the manuscript following the Reference section. The approximate position of figures and tables should be indicated in the margin of the manuscript.
In tables, footnotes are preferable to long explanatory material in either the heading or body of the table. Such explanatory footnotes, identified by superscript letters, should be placed immediately below the table.
Section Headings
First-, second-, third- and fourth-order headings should be clearly distinguishable.
Notes and References
Please use endnotes only. Be sure you do not mix note text and bibliographic information. Bibliographic information should be listed in a separate Reference section (see REFERENCES section for more information). Notes should be indicated by consecutive superscript numbers in the text and collected at the end of the article before the References. A note referring to the title of the article should be indicated by an asterisk. This note should be placed at the bottom of the first page.
Cross-Referencing
Please make optimal use of the cross-referencing features of your software package. Do not cross-reference page numbers. Cross-references should refer to:
- the number of a displayed equation
- the number of a table
- the number of a figure
- the number of an enunciation
- the number of a reference
In the text, the reference number should be enclosed within square brackets.
References
References to books, journal papers, articles in collections and conference or workshop proceedings, and technical reports should be collected in a list at the end of the paper and listed in numbered order.
