About the journal

This journal covers all aspects of electromagnetic wave theory and its various applications. The journal publishes original papers and review articles on new theories, methodology and computational techniques, and interpretations of both theoretical and experimental results. The aim is to report advancement and progress in the modern development of electromagnetic wave theory and to report new and exciting applications.

The journal's scope is broad and includes the following topics:

Wave propagation theory; Remote sensing; Inverse scattering; Geophysical subsurface probing, inversion techniques; Propagation in random media; Oceanography-radar reflection; Meteorology; Ionospheric effects on wave propagation; Ionospheric modifications and heating; Atmospherics; Antenna theory and applications; Transients; Radar measurements and applications; Active experiments using space vehicles; Extra-terrestrial remote sensing; Electromagnetic interferometry; Ground-based remote sensing; Agricultural remote sensing; Microelectronic, integrated circuits; EM wave transmission in VLSI; Electromagnetic pulse transmission and coupling; Electromagnetic compatibility; Optical and millimeter wave techniques; Integrated optics; Fiber optics; Communication systems; Solid state devices and circuits; Medical applications, biological effects; Ferrite devices; Field and network theory; High power devices and systems; Submicron structures; Waves in composite and amorphous materials; Expert systems in remote sensing; Numerical methods.

Instructions to Authors

Submission of manuscripts, refereeing process
Submit seven copies of the manuscript to the Editor-in-Chief, J.A. Kong, Office 26--305, 77 Massachusetts Avenue, Cambridge, MA 02139, USA. All contributions will be evaluated by independent referees. Papers should be original and must not have been submitted simultaneously to any other journal. Authors are solely responsible for the factual accuracy of their papers. It is the responsibility of the principal author to secure requisite permission from his or her employer and all papers submitted are understood to have received clearance(s) for publication. Authors may select and suggest reviewers to the Editorial Board. Reviewers' names may be printed along with the paper when and if the paper is accepted for publication. A short biography (5--10 lines) of each author should be submitted as well.

Manuscript style
Manuscripts must be in English, typed with double line spacing, single-sided on 8.5'x11' or A4 sheets, and should be numbered beginning with the title page. The first page of an article should contain only (1) the title of the paper, the name(s) and address(es) of the author(s), (2) a short title (running head) not exceeding 50 characters, (3) name and address of the author to whom correspondence and proofs should be sent. An abstract of 50--250 words should be included with all manuscripts and follow the title page on a separate sheet. When a word processor is used in preparing the manuscript a hard copy output according to the above style must be submitted. Headings and subheadings for different sections of the paper (e.g. Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusion) should be clearly indicated. Detailed mathematical discussions should be placed in an appendix. Units of measurement, abbreviations and symbols should follow the International System of Units (SI). Equations should be numbered consecutively with arabic numerals in parentheses on the right-hand side of the page. Special symbols should be identified in the margin. In word-processing manuscripts, use appropriate typeface. It will be assumed that letters in displayed equations are to be set in italic type unless marked otherwise. All letter symbols in the text must be marked if they are to be italic or boldface.

Tables and figures
Tables should be given short informative titles and should be numbered consecutively in arabic numerals. Figures in a form suitable for reproduction should be submitted separately from the text as original reproducible drawings, or as high-contrast sharp unmounted photographs on glossy paper. Lettering on figures should be proportional to the size of the figure to ensure legibility after reduction. The following should be indicated lightly in soft pencil on the back of each figure: (1) the top of the figure by an arrow, (2) the author and the figure number. All figures and tables should be cited consecutively in the text and a list of captions should be provided at the end of the paper.

References and reference section
This section should be used only for references to previous work. Additional information, such as experimental details, etc., should be incorporated into the text. References should be numbered in sequence and cited in the text. Technical reports, memos, unpublished or to be published articles should not be listed - only published work in journals or books should be cited as references. References should contain full title and be listed at the end of the paper in the reference section in the numerical order they appear in the text.

References should be listed in the following style:

1. Kong, J.A. Electromagnetic Wave Theory, Wiley- Interscience, New York, 1986.

2 Golden, K.M. and S.F. Ackley, ``Modeling of ani- sotropic electromagnetic reflection from sea ice,' J. Geophys.Res., Vol. 86, 8107--8116, 1981.

3. Ryzhov, Y.A., V.V. Tamoikin and V.I. Tatarskii, ``Spatial dispersion of inhomogeneous media,' Soviet Phys. JETP, Vol. 21, 433--438, 1965.

Reprints
Twenty five reprints will be supplied free of charge with each article. Additional reprints may be ordered at the price shown on the reprint order form which will be mailed to the author together with the proofs.

There are no page charges

Short communications should be presented in the same style as full papers.

Letters to the Editor should be addressed to J.A. Kong.
