About the journal
Scope
The Journal welcomes original articles dealing with basic pharmacology, clinical drug studies, large controlled trials, and pharmaco-economics and pharmaco-epidemiology, related to cardiovascular drug therapy. In addition, we wish to receive review articles, manuscripts dealing with novel issues in cardiovascular drug development and discussions of controversial topics. Essays on state-of-the-art therapy and other articles of educational nature will be published in the "Curriculum in Cardiovascular Medicine" series. Submission of manuscripts dealing with trial design, organization and conduct, and results, including those with a negative or neutral outcome is encouraged. Uncontrolled studies will not be accepted. The journal welcomes Letters to the Editor dealing with either material previously published in the journal or other topics of concern. Letters should be brief, less than 500 words, and will undergo a normal review process. Supplements and special issues devoted to major subjects of interest will also be published and will play an important role in the comprehensive coverage of Cardiovascular Drugs and Therapy.
There is no fixed limit on the length of articles, though concise presentation is encouraged. All articles will be reviewed by two or more referees. If the manuscript is accepted for publication, editorial revisions may be made to aid clarity and understanding, however without changing the context and meaning of the article.
Manuscripts submitted to the Journal must not be under simultaneous consideration by any other journal and should not have been published elsewhere in a substantially similar form. No part of a paper that has been published in Cardiovascular Drugs and Therapy may be reproduced elsewhere without the written permission of the Publisher.
CDT is the Official Journal of the International Society of Cardiovascular Pharmacotherapy: A Section of the Council on Clinical Cardiology of the World Heart Federation.

Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals
This journal accepts articles prepared in conformation with the Vancouver style as defined in the New England Journal of Medicine 1991; 324: 424-428.
Manuscript Preparation (Articles)
Manuscripts must be submitted in English in triplicate (one original and two copies) and typed double-spaced on A4 metric 22x29 cm (8-1/2 x 11 in) white bond paper. This applies to all parts of the manuscript, including references, legends, etc. Liberal margins (2.5 cm, 1 in.) should be left at the top and bottom, as well as at the sides. The manuscript should be submitted in the following order: title page, abstract and keywords, text, text references, tables, illustrations or figures and legends. Each page, beginning with the abstract, should also include the senior author‘s surname typed in the upper right-hand corner. Authors should retain a copy for reference because manuscripts will not be returned. Abbreviations should be kept to a minimum and must be explained when they first appear;after the first use, an abbreviation may be used.
Title page
The title page of each manuscript should include only (i) article title; (ii) authors?names (including first and middle names and degrees); (iii) name and address of the institutions(s) from which the work originated, plus information about grants (including city and state of all foundations, funds, and institutions); (iv) name, title, address, telephone number, fax number, or e-mail address of person to whom proofs and reprint requests should be addressed; (v) any necessary footnotes to these items; (vi) an abbreviated title of not more than 6 words.
Abstract page
The page following the title page should include a brief abstract of 200-250 words describing the purpose, methods, results, and conclusions of the study.
Key words
Four to ten key words or terms must be provided for indexing. Include words already in the title.
Text
The text of the article should begin on a new page and have the following parts: introduction, methods, ethics, statistics, results, discussion, and acknowledgments (including sources of financial support).
References
For details, see New England Journal of Medicine 1991;324:424-428.
Personal communications, manuscripts in preparation, and other unpublished data are not cited in the reference list but may be mentioned in the text in parentheses.
References are to be numbered and cited in the order in which they appear except for reviews. The reference section should be typed double-spaced at the end of the text, following the sample formats given below. All authors?names must be provided for up to six individuals; when there are seven or more authors, list the first three and add et al. It is the responsibility of the author(s) to verify all references. For reviews the Vancouver system (sequential numbering of references) becomes clumsy so that the Harvard system (authors?names and years) should be used. For details see the journal Drugs.

Figures and tables
Include a photocopy of each figure above the legend. Original figures must be submitted as unmounted, clear glossy prints with lettering large enough to be legible in the event of half-size reduction. Submit one glossy print 13 x 18 cm (5 x 7 in.) and two photocopies of each figure. If the photocopies are not adequate for evaluation, as may be the case for photomicrographs, submit three glossy prints. On the back of each figure, give the first author‘s name, the figure number, and indicate the top with an arrow. Do not write directly on the back of the figure; rather, write on a gummed label and affix it to the back of the figure. Do not use paper clips or staples. Submit figures in an envelope backed by cardboard.
Each figure should have a separate, explicit legend, typed double-spaced on a sheet separate from the text. Figure numbers should be arabic, corresponding to the order in which the figures are presented in the text. Identify all abbreviations appearing on the figure in alphabetical order at the end of each legend.
Estimates for color work will be provided upon acceptance of the manuscript. All costs of printing color will be charged to the authors.
Tables should be typed double-spaced, each on a separate sheet, with the title above and any notes below. Explain all abbreviations. Tables and table numbers should be arabic, corresponding to the order in which the tables are presented in the text. Do not give the same information in tables and figures . You must obtain permission to use all tables and figures that have already been published.
Letters to the Editor
Letters should follow the same general rules as articles, except that an abstract is not required and the letter should consist of no more than four typed pages and 10 references. A table or figure may be included. If references are needed, they should follow the standard format. A separate title page is required giving the full names and addresses of the authors, telephone and fax numbers, a running title, and four to five keywords for index purposes. Abbreviations should be kept to a minimum and must be explained when they first appear; after the first use, an abbreviation may be used.
Case Reports
Single case reports will be considered if submitted in the letter format.
Style
Cardiovascular Drugs and Therapy follows the general style, abbreviation style, and reference style described in"Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals" (see N Engl J Med 1981;324:424-428). For additional abbreviations, consult the Council of Biology Editors Style Manual (available from the Council of Biology Editors, 9650 Rockville Pike, Bethesda, MD 20814, USA) or other standard sources. Abbreviation of journal names should follow the style ofList of Journals Indexed in Index Medicus (available from the Superintendent of Documents, U.S. Government Printing Office,Washington, D.C. 20402, USA, DHEW Publication No. (NIH) 83-267;ISSN 0093-3821). For drug reference, use generic names only, followed in parentheses after first mention by any commonly used variant generic.
Proofs and Offprints
Proofs must be returned within 3 days of receipt; later return may cause a delay in publication of an article. Please check text, tables, legends, and references carefully. To expedite publication, page proofs, rather than galleys, will be sent to the author. Alterations other than the correction of printing errors will be charged to the author(s). Order information for offprints will accompany authors?proofs.
