Instructions to Authors
- Unpublished Full papers, Notes, and Review articles related in principle to veterinary science are accepted. Texts must be written in proper English. All the manuscripts are reviewed by the referees. Manuscripts are selected for publication according to editorial assessment of their suitability and reports from individual referees. Papers will be rejected if the ethics in the care and use of animals have not been adhered to.
- If the first author being member of the Japanese Society of Veterinary Science, the submission charge is \13,000 for a Full paper or a Review article and \9,000 for a Note. If not, the submission charge of \25,000 is assessed for each manuscript. After acceptance of the paper, the submission charge should be paid on demand of the Japanese Society of Veterinary Science. Submission charge will not be necessary for a Review article invited by the Editorial Board.
- Four sets of manuscripts should be submitted. Four sets of original drawings and/or photographs are preferable, but one set of the originals and three sets of high-quality copies are also acceptable. Submitted papers will not be returned to the author.
- In the top margin of the first page of each paper, one of the following specific categories should be notified as specific fields of the paper: Anatomy, Avian Pathology, Bacteriology, Biochemistry, Clinical Pathology, Ethology, Immunology, Internal Medicine, Laboratory Animal Science, Parasitology, Pathology, Pharmacology, Physiology, Public Health, Surgery, Theriogenology, Toxicology, Virology. The upper half of the first page should also include an indication of either Full paper, Note, or Review article, title, running head, authors?names and addresses with postal code of the institution in which the work was done, Fax number, E. mail address, and the corresponding author and his address. The running head not exceeding 40 letters should be typewritten in capital letters. The lower half of the page should be left blank.
- The second page of each Full paper and Review article should contain an abstract (240 words or less) and key words (5 or less in alphabetical order). For Notes an abstract (120 words or less) and key words (3 or less in alphabetical order) should be contained.
- The description on and after the third page of Full paper should be made in principle in the following order: INTRODUCTION, MATERIALS AND METHODS, RESULTS, DISCUSSION, ACKNOWLEDGMENTS and REFERENCES. For Note, such captions as Abstract and Introduction should not be given and References should follow the text.
- The length of papers, including Tables, Figures and any other appendices, should not exceed 5 printed pages for Full paper and Review article and 3 for Note. One printed page containing no title, tables, or figures, may contain around 870 words in Full paper and Review article and 930 words in Note.
- A summary in Japanese (600 letters for Full paper and Review article, and 200 for Note) should be attached, if the authors include Japanese. It should include the title, authors and the institution in which the work was done.
- The manuscript should be typed at double spaces (ca. 24-26 linage per page and approx. 70 spaces per lineage) on A4 (215 X 280 mm) typewriting paper with enough margin spaces on the four sides.
- The proper noun should begin with a capital letter. The scientific terms of animals, plants and microorganisms must be underlined for italicization.
- Abbreviations except those listed in Item 12 should be written in parentheses after the full term at their first appearance in the manuscript.
- In the manuscript Arabic numerals should be used for quantitation. As a rule, the units and abbreviations should conform to the following examples: M, mM, ƒÊM, N, %, m, cm, mm, ƒÊm, nm, pm, cm2, l, ml, kg, g, mg, ƒÊg, ng, pg, hr, min, sec, msec, rpm, Hz, Bq, mBq, µBq, kBq, cpm, dpm, ppm, ?/SUP>C, J, KJ, lux, CPE, LD.
- References should be arranged in the alphabetical order of the authors?surname and numbered consecutively. In the text they should be cited by numbers, e.g. [1, 3-5, 7].
The abbreviations of titles of periodicals should conform to ISO 4-1972 (E): Documentation International Code for the Abbreviation of Titles of Periodicals, and ISO 833-1974 (E): Documentation International List of Periodical Title Word Abbreviation. The following are examples of Reference: Titles should be omitted in the Note.

- On Tables, no vertical line is used and each term or phrase should begin with a capital letter. Any explanation essential to the understanding of the Table should be given as a footnote at the bottom of the Table. Reference to the footnote should be designated by symbols in the order a), b), c).
- Figures-Data should be drawn on a white paper by using a line less than 1 mm wide. Figures-Photographs are preferred to be printed in the original size and should be 7.7 cm or 16 cm in horizontal width by less than 9 cm length. For printing any signs (scales, arrows, etc.) on the photographs should be directly marked. The numbers of figures (Fig. 1, Fig. 3, etc.) should be marked with a soft pencil on the backside and on the pasteboard nearby Figure-photographs. All the Figures should be numbered through those of data and photographs in the consecutive order, and their title and legends must be typewritten on separate sheets.
- The site of insertion of the figures and tables (with consecutive numbers, e.g. Table 1, Fig. 3) in the text should be indicated in the righthand margin of the text.
- Publication is in principle in the order of the acceptance after refereeing.
- The author will be charged the following expenses.
(1) Revising English language when the Editorial Board regards necessary. (2) Type-setting and printing of the portion of the text exceeding the length prescribed in Item 7. (At present, ?5,000 per 1 printed page.) (3) Tracing charge when the Editorial Board regards necessary. (4) Color printing. (5) Reprints.
- The journal is to be issued monthly.
