Authors submitting a paper do so on the understanding that no part has been published before, that it is not being considered for publication elsewhere, and that it has been read and approved by all the authors.
Authors may suggest names for potential scientific referees who are not or have been closely related to the authors, including their mailing addresses and areas of expertise.
Copyright - Submission of a manuscript means that all authors automatically agree to assign exclusive copyright to European Journal of Oral Sciences if and when the manuscript is accepted for publication.
The work or parts thereof may not be published elsewhere in any language without the written consent of the Journal. Articles published in the Journal are protected by copyright, which covers translation rights and the exclusive right to reproduce and distribute all articles printed in the Journal. No material published in the Journal may be stored on microfilm or videocassettes or in electronic databases and the like or reproduced photographically without prior permission of the Journal.
A Transfer of Copyright form will be forwarded to the authors by the Editor and should be returned signed by the corresponding or senior author on behalf of all the authors.

Manuscript style - The format of a manuscript should be as follows: Title page, Abstract, Introduction, Material and methods, Results, Discussion, Acknowledgements, References, Figure legends and Tables, arranged in that order.
A recent issue of the Journal should be consulted for style and format. Manuscripts should be double-spaced on A4 paper, paginated, and submitted in correct English; both English and American spelling are accepted provided this is consistent throughout the manuscript. The beginning of paragraphs should be properly marked with an indent. Avoid end-of-line hyphens. Authors whose native language is not English are strongly advised to obtain assistance from someone proficient in scientific English. Manuscripts not submitted in the proper format or in poor English may be returned without review.
For an instructive treatise on how to promulgate scientific results, the monograph by R.A. DAY, How to write and publish a scientific paper (5th edn., Phoenix, AZ: Oryx Press, 1998) is recommended.
Title page - The title page should contain the following information in the order given: 1) a concise but informative title, including animal species used, if appropriate, and avoiding titles of an affirmative character; 2) authors full names (without degrees or titles); 3) authors institutional affiliations including city and country; 4) a running title, not exceeding 40 letters and spaces; 5) name, address, telephone, fax and electronic mail address of the author responsible for correspondence.
Abstract page - A separate abstract page should contain the following: 1) authors surnames and initials; 2) title of manuscript; 3) abbreviated title of the Journal; 4) the word Abstract followed by a summary of the complete manuscript; 5) up to 5 key words according to Index Medicus,. 6) name, address, fax and electronic mail address of the author to whom requests for reprints should be sent.
The Abstract should give a condensed overview of the study, summarising its aim, methodology and results with only few but relevant details, and the authors principal conclusions. It should be short and concise, not divided into paragraphs, and with a maximum of 200 words. It should not contain any non-standard abbreviations.
Material and methods - Procedures should be described in such detail as to make it possible to repeat the work. Subheadings may be used to improve clearness. Proprietary names and sources of supply of commercial products should be given in parentheses in the text. Correct unit abbreviations should be used (e.g. "h", "min", " s" and "µm" rather than "hr", "minutes", "sec" and "?, respectively). For a listing of abbreviations of physical and chemical units and symbols, designation of isotopically labelled compounds, abbreviations which may be used without definition, etc., authors are referred to Biochem J 1994; 297: 4-15. Scientific names of bacteria should be binomials, written in italics, and must be given in full when first mentioned. Subsequent mention may abbreviate genus, taking care that this abbreviation is unambiguous (Staph. or Strep. instead of S.).
It is assumed that authors have considered the ethical aspects of their research and ensured that the work was approved by an appropriate Ethical Committee. In human experimentation, informed consent from individuals must have been given. This should preferably be stated.
Statistical analysis - Since many scientific investigations rely on statistical treatment, authors are strongly urged to consult a person with in-depth statistical knowledge. Manuscripts with a conspicuous element of statistics are regularly refereed by the Journals statistics consultant.
Results and Discussion - The Results section should clearly and concisely report findings, as a rule in the past tense, without subjective comments and reference to previous literature. Double documentation of data in text, tables or figures is not acceptable. The Discussion section presents the interpretation of the findings; this is the only proper section for subjective comments. Authors are strongly urged to avoid undue repetition of what has already been reported in Results. For the sake of clarity, the Results section may have subheadings; this is usually not the case with the Discussion.
References - Number references consecutively in the order in which they are first mentioned in the text. Identify references in texts, tables, and legends by Arabic numerals (within parenthesis). Check to ensure that all listed references are cited in the text. If an authors name is mentioned in the text, capital letters should be used.
Congress abstracts should not be used as references, nor may unaccented papers, unpublished observations, and personal communications be placed in the Reference list, although references to the authors unpublished findings and to "personal communications", where explicit consent has been given by the sources, may be inserted in parentheses in the text. Unpublished articles should be referred to only if proof can be given that they are accepted for publication. Copies of such articles may be requested for evaluation of the manuscript submitted.
Examples of correct forms of references are given below. These are based on the format used in Index Medicus. For abbreviations of journals, consult the List of the Journals Indexed, printed annually in the January issue of Index Medicus. List all authors; dont use et al. in the reference list. Avoid issue numbers in journal articles. Give the first and last page of references.

Illustrations - All graphs, drawings, and photographs are considered figures and should be numbered in sequence with Arabic numerals. Each figure should have a legend, and all legends should be typed together on a separate sheet and numbered correspondingly. Figures should be planned to fit the proportions of the printed page or one columns width. Text on photographs should be in capitals, and magnification should be indicated by a scale bar on micrographs. To provide appreciable diagrams, lettering should be kept to a minimum and be large enough to sustain reduction in printing. Each illustration should have the figure number and the authors name written on the back.
Colour illustrations may be submitted in the instances where their use contributes significantly to the scientific value of the article. Colour illustrations may be printed free of charge at the Editors discretion, whereas others will have to be printed at the authors expense. In such cases, Blackwell Publishing require you to complete and return a colour work agreement form before your paper can be published. This form can be downloaded as a PDF* from the internet. The web address for the form is:

Any article received by Blackwell Publishing with colour work will not be published until the form has been returned. * To read PDF files, you must have Acrobat Reader installed on your computer. If you do not have this program, this is available as a free download from the following web address: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.htmlAuthors should note that colour illustrations mounted together as blocks cost considerably less than the same number of illustrations submitted as individual illustrations. Authors wishing to publish colour illustrations should clearly indicate this when submitting a manuscript. 5 sets of colour prints or good laser colour copies as well as original colour slides, if possible, should be submitted.
Tables should be numbered consecutively with Arabic numerals. Each table should be typed on a separate sheet, with due regard for the proportion of the printed column/page. Each table must have an explanatory title.
Manuscript on disk - Once an article has been accepted for publication, the author will be asked to supply a copy of the final manuscript on disk (Zip, Jaz, CD or SyQuest in Macintosh or PC format) together with 2 complete manuscripts. The computer disk must contain an exact copy of the manuscript, with tables and figures (TIFF, EPS or JPEG) in separate files. Every disk must be clearly labeled with the name of the journal, author and title, manuscript number, format, software and program version number.
Page charges and offprints - The first 5 printed pages in an article are free of charge. For excess pages, the charge is DKK 1000 per printed page. Offprints can be ordered on the offprint form which will accompany the proofs.
Review articles may be invited by the Editor. Proposals for review articles should be discussed with the Editor prior to preparation and submission. Review articles will be subjected to peer review.
Short communications may not be longer than 2 printed pages. They should contain important, new, definitive information of sufficient significance to warrant publication. Short communications need not follow the usual division into Material and methods etc. but should have a short abstract
Extra issues - Congress proceedings, larger papers or monographs may be published as additional issues (paginated as the ordinary issues), the full cost being paid by the organiser/author. A condition is that the proposed supplement is deemed to have a significant scientific value. Further information may be obtained from the Editor.
