About the journal
This journal publishes research investigating the nature of performance in the workplace and in applied settings and offers a rich variety of information going beyond the study of traditional job behavior. Dedicated to presenting original research, theory, and measurement methods, the journal investigates individual and team performance factors that influence work effectiveness.
Human Performance is a respected forum for behavioral scientists interested in variables that motivate and promote high-level human performance, particularly in occupational settings. The journal seeks to identify and stimulate more relevant research, communication, and theory concerning human capabilities and effectiveness. It serves as a valuable intellectual link between such disciplines as industrial-organizational psychology, individual differences, work physiology, environmental medicine and safety, human resource management, and human factors.
Instructions to Authors
Submissions to Human Performance will be evaluated according to several different criteria: significance, adequacy of design and of execution of study, integrity of analyses, quality of introduction and discussion, clarity of expression, and extent to which the manuscript addresses the emphasis of the journal. Under certain circumstances, we will accept replications and studies in which the null hypothesis is not rejected; these circumstances are described in the Editorial Statement that appears in Volume 1, Number 1. The following instructions for authors have been developed from and follow closely the guidelines adopted and published by journals of the American Psychological Association (APA).
Manuscripts should conform to the guidelines presented in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (5th ed.); manuscripts that do not adhere to these guidelines will be returned without being reviewed. Manuscripts should include a 100- to 150-word abstract typed on a separate sheet of paper. All text (including tables, footnotes, and references) should be double-spaced, and all sexist language should be eliminated. There is no limit on length: Manuscripts can vary from short notes of 6 to 10 manuscript pages to monographs of 70 pages or more.
We will follow the APA policy that authors not submit a manuscript to more than one source at the same time. Authors should state in a cover letter that the manuscript is not under consideration for publication elsewhere; similarly, we will not accept a manuscript that has appeared (or that will appear) in any other source in whole or substantial part. Authors should also state in the cover letter that they have followed the APA ethical standards for the treatment of human or animal subjects. These guidelines are available from the American Psychological Association Ethics Office, 750 First Street, NE, Washington, DC 20002-4242.
Four copies of each manuscript should be submitted for publication consideration. Unless otherwise requested, reviews will not be anonymous. When anonymous reviews are requested, the name and affiliation of the author, as well as any other identifying information, should not appear in the body of the manuscript or author notes. A separate title page should appear on each copy of a manuscript for which an anonymous review is requested.
Manuscripts should be mailed to the Editor, Dr. Walter C. Borman, Personnel Decisions Research Institute, 100 S. Ashley Dr., Suite 375, Tampa, FL 33602.
