About the journal
Bringing together social science research on present and emerging environmental and natural resource issues, Society and Natural Resources provides a forum for scientific, refereed research that underlies management decisions on natural resource development from multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary social science perspectives.
The knowledge base focuses on natural resource management issues, including biological and physical changes, such as: acid rain; biological and genetic diversity in worldwide agriculture; hazardous and solid waste disposal; and forest, fishery, soil, and water degradation.
Instructions to Authors
Please submit your original manuscript, along with four copies, to Richard S. Krannich, Institute for Social Science Research on Natural Resources, Utah State University, 0730 Old Main Hill, Logan, UT 84322, USA. Authors are strongly encouraged to submit manuscripts on disk along with their hard copies. The disk should be prepared using MS Word or WordPerfect and should be clearly labeled with the authors names, file name, and software program. Each manuscript must be accompanied by a statement that it has not been published elsewhere and that it has not been submitted simultaneously for publication elsewhere. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted material from other sources and are required to sign an agreement for the transfer of copyright to the publisher. All accepted manuscripts, artwork, and photographs become the property of the publisher.
All parts of the manuscript should be typewritten, double-spaced, with margins of at least one inch on all sides. Number manuscript pages consecutively throughout the paper. Authors should also supply a shortened version of the title suitable for the running head, not exceeding 50 character spaces. Each article should be summarized in an abstract of not more that 150 words. Avoid abbreviations, diagrams, and reference to the text within the abstract. Authors must give from three to ten key words that identify the most important subjects covered by the paper.
Reviews
In general, reviews are solicited and include reviews of meetings, videos, films, bulletins, and books. Policy reviews submitted in good taste are encouraged. Write to the book review or the policy review editors if you wish to participate in these innovative formats. Book Review Editor: Diane C. Bates, Department of Sociology and Anthropology, The College of New Jersey, PO Box 7718, Ewing, NJ, 08628, USA; e-mail: bates@tcnj.edu. Policy Reviews should be submitted to Richard S. Krannich at the address above.
Affiliation
On the title page include full names of authors, academic and/or other professional affiliations and the complete mailing address of the author to whom proofs and correspondence should be sent. Do not submit position titles.
References
Include only references to books, articles, and bulletins actually cited in the text. All references must follow the University of Chicago Manual of Style-Author/Date System Style B. References in the text should cite the author’s last name, year of publication, and page (where appropriate); thus (Field and Burdge, 1972, p. 85) or (Burch, 1972). All references should appear at the end of the typescript in alphabetical order.

Illustrations
Illustrations submitted (line drawings, halftones, photos, photomicrographs, etc.) should be clean originals or digital files. Digital files are recommended for highest quality reproduction and should follow these guidelines:
- 300 dpi or higher
- sized to fit on journal page
- EPS, TIFF, or PSD format only
- submitted as separate files, not embedded in text files
Color illustrations will be considered for publication; however, the author will be required to bear the full cost involved in their printing and publication. The charge for the first page with color is $900.00. The next three pages with color are $450.00 each. A custom quote will be provided for color art totaling more than 4 journal pages. Good-quality color prints or files should be provided in their final size. The publisher has the right to refuse publication of color prints deemed unacceptable.
Tables and Figures
Tables and figures should not be embedded in the text, but should be included as separate sheets or files. A short descriptive title should appear above each table with a clear legend and any footnotes suitably identified below. All units must be included. Figures should be completely labeled, taking into account necessary size reduction. Captions should be typed, double-spaced, on a separate sheet. All original figures should be clearly marked in pencil on the reverse side with the number, author’s name, and top edge indicated.
Proofs
All proofs must be corrected and returned to the publisher within 48 hours of receipt. If the manuscript is not returned within the allotted time, the editor will proofread the article and it will be printed per his instruction. Only correction of typographical errors is permitted at the proof stage.
Reprints
Each corresponding author will receive 50 reprints of their article upon registration with Rightslink, our authorized reprint provider. Authors will need to create a unique account and register with Rightslink for this free service. The link is provided at the time of page proof review.
