Instructions to Authors

Seminars in Dialysis is an independent, peer-reviewed, quarterly journal devoted to reviews of clinical topics in the field of dialysis and related areas. Authors should strive for brevity. Most articles are expected to be from 4,000 to 6,000 words (plus references). If a larger article is required to cover a topic, consideration should be given to narrowing the focus of the piece. (Two 5,000 word articles are generally preferable to one of 10,000 words). If the author of the article has done work in the area reviewed, overemphasis of this work should be avoided.

It is recommended that one or more individuals not familiar with the area discussed review the manuscript and offer suggestions on improving the clarity of presentation.

In the interest of readability (and brevity), it is requested that authors of articles referred to in the review not be mentioned in the text except where essential.

For example: "Prophylactic doses of furosemide appear to prevent renal failure in this model (1)."

is preferred to

"Studies by Smith and Thomas and Jones et al (1) have shown that prophylactic doses of furosemide....."

Also to add to readability, dividing the article into sections with appropriate headings and subheading may be of value. Manuscripts, including references, must be double spaced with adequate margins. References should be listed in the order cited using the Kidney International style listing all authors. No abstract is necessary. Four copies of the manuscript and two copies of figures should be submitted to the Editor. Figures should be professionally drawn. Permission fees and the cost of any color illustrations must be borne by the authors.

Previously published figures, tables and other material submitted to Seminars in Dialysis for publication require permission from the copyright holder (usually the publisher) to be reproduced. In addition, the permission of at least one author of the previously published material is required. Forms for obtaining such permission are available from the Editorial Office
