|
Naval Research Logistics is a premier peer-reviewed journal in operations research, applied statistics, and general quantitative modeling. Founded in 1954, NRL has a distinguished history of publication of both seminal methodological contributions and innovative applications. NRL's original focus on naval applications has been greatly extended for many years to a wide range of civilian and military problems.
|
The types of articles most sought after by Naval Research Logistics fall into the following classes: (i) modeling and analysis of problems motivated by current real-world applications, (ii) exploratory modeling and analysis of problems motivated by potential future real-world applications, (iii) major methodological advances, and (iv) expository pieces of exceptional clarity. Areas represented include (but are not limited to) probability, statistics, simulation, optimization, game theory, scheduling, reliability, inventory, decision analysis, and combat models.

Instructions to Authors
Naval Research Logistics is now receiving submitted manuscripts online at http://nav-wiley.manuscriptcentral.com.
Submit all new manuscripts online. Launch your web browser and go to http://nav-wiley.manuscriptcentral.com. Check for an existing user account. If you are submitting for the first time, and you do not find an existing account, create a new account. Follow all instructions.
Submit manuscript and all figures as one file if possible. You do not need to mail any paper copies of your manuscript at this time.
At the end of a successful submission, a confirmation screen with manuscript number will appear and you will receive an e-mail confirming that the manuscript has been received by the journal. If this does not happen, please check your submission and/or contact tech support at edsupport@wiley.com.
Authors of manuscripts accepted for publication in the Journal will be asked, on acceptance, to mail to the Journal Office a printout of the accepted version of the manuscript along with required copyright and permissions forms and a disk(s) containing the corresponding manuscript file, figures, and tables. Accepted manuscripts should be mailed to the Editor-in-Chief, Dr. David Simchi-Levi, Naval Research Logistics, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, School of Engineering, 77 Massachusetts Avenue, Room I-171, Cambridge, MA 02139-4307
Submission of a manuscript to the Editor implies that the paper has not been published, that it is not being submitted for publication elsewhere, and that, if the work reported is officially sponsored, it has been released for publication. A publication agreement may be obtained from the editor or the publisher. A copy of the publication agreement appears in most issues of the journal. Only original papers will be accepted and copyright in published papers will be vested in the publisher. It is the author's responsibility to obtain written permission to reproduce material that has appeared in another publication. A copy of that agreement, signed by the author, is required before a manuscript can be accepted for publication. (In the case of a "work made for hire," the agreement must be signed by the employer.)
A short abstract (200 words maximum) is required. It should be complete and self-contained, giving the scope and emphasizing the main conclusions, results, or significance of the work described.
Equations and symbols should be typed wherever possible; all ambiguous symbols must be clearly defined in the margin (e.g., 1, l; k, ; x, ).
Figures should be professionally prepared and submitted in a form suitable for reproduction (camera-ready copy). Computer-generated graphs are acceptable only if they have been printed with a good quality laser printer. The maximum final size for a figure in this journal is 12 x 20-cm; lettering is reduced to a 1.5-mm height.
All color figures will be reproduced in full color in the online edition of the journal at no cost to authors. Authors are requested to pay the cost of reproducing color figures in print. Authors are encouraged to submit color illustrations that highlight the text and convey essential scientific information. For best reproduction, bright, clear colors should be used. Dark colors against a dark background do not reproduce well; please place your color images against a white background wherever possible. Please contact Carol Ann McNelis at 201-748-6009/cmcnelis@wiley.com for further information.
Wiley's Journal Styles and EndNote EndNote is a software product that we recommend to our journal authors to help simplify and streamline the research process. Using EndNote's bibliographic management tools, you can search bibliographic databases, build and organize your reference collection, and then instantly output your bibliography in any Wiley journal style. Download Reference Style for this Journal: If you already use EndNote, you can download the reference style for this journal. How to Order: To learn more about EndNote, or to purchase your own copy of EndNote, click here. Technical Support: If you need assistance using EndNote, contact endnote@isiresearchsoft.com, or visit www.endnote.com/support.
Literature references should be indicated in text by an Arabic number in square brackets. All literature citations should be grouped together at the end of the manuscript in alphabetical order and numbered consecutively. For journal references, supply author(s), title, journal title, volume, page range, and year of publication; for unpublished material, give as much information as possible [e.g., for lectures of symposia list author(s), paper title, symposium title, sponsor, location, and date]. Authors will be charged for excessive alteration. A reprint order form is sent with the proofs. Reprints must be ordered and prepaid when the proofs are returned.
Guidelines for Electronic SubmissionAuthors are strongly encouraged to deliver the final, accepted version of their manuscript on a disk.
- Storage Medium. 3 inch disk in IBM MS-DOS or Macintosh format.

- All TeX files will be accepted. However, if you prefer to use the macros created by the publisher, they are available via the Internet on the John Wiley & Sons, Inc. FTP server. The address is: ftp.wiley.com/public/journals/tex/navalr. Log in as anonymous and use your e-mail address as a password. For more information see the README file in the navalr subdirectory.
- Illustrations. Electronic illustrations are encouraged, but not required. Submit each article's illustrations in a separate directory on the same disk as the article. TIFF and EPS files or native application files are accepted. For grey scale and color figure submissions please contact us for more detailed instructions.
- File names. Submit each journal article as one single file. Each file should be named using your last name (not to exceed 8 letters). If your last name exceeds eight letters it should be truncated to fit.
- Label all disks with your name, the title of your article, the file name, and the program used.
- The disk must be accompanied by hard copy printout.
