About the journal
Probe gender as one of the foundations of every existing social order in Gender & Society. Emphasizing theory and research from micro- and macrostructural perspectives, Gender & Society promotes both the study of gender and feminist scholarship. Gender & Society gives you access to the latest theory on the social and structural implications of gender through a multidisciplinary approach. Each peer-reviewed issue encourages development of new knowledge and analysis, and includes critical and review articles.
Instructions to Authors
Online Process
Manuscripts should be submitted electronically to http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/gendsoc. Submitting authors are required to set up an online account on the SageTrack system powered by ScholarOne. Manuscripts that are accepted for review will be sent out anonymously for editorial evaluation. Obtaining permission for any quoted or reprinted material that requires permission is the responsibility of the author. Submission of a manuscript implies commitment to publish in the journal. Authors submitting manuscripts to the journal should not simultaneously submit them to another journal, nor should manuscripts have been published elsewhere in substantially similar form or with substantially similar content. Authors in doubt about what constitutes prior publication should consult the Editor. The online process permits submission of a separate title page, a main manuscript document, and supplementary files.
Format
Generally, papers should not exceed 8,500 words, including tables, notes, and references. All manuscripts must include an abstract of no more than 150 words. Authors should consult the Chicago Manual of Style, Style B, for citations and references, or contact the journal office for the Gender & Society style manual. Authors should not number the pages; the online system will number the pages.
Blind Review Process
Because our review process is anonymous, you must remove all material from the manuscript that identifies you. Please do not refer to yourself or any of your published or unpublished work. If you must cite yourself, list your name only as ¡°Author¡± and include only the publication date of your referenced work (e.g., Author 1989). It is important that you do this in the text and in the references. In the references, use the words ¡°Author 1989¡± and place it where the word ¡°author¡± would appear in alphabetical order. If you have co-authored publications, refer to them using "Author et al. 1989". Only include acknowledgements on a separate title page, not on the manuscript document.
For additional information, contact the Gender & Society office at gendsoc@ksu.edu.
Book Reviews
Books for review should be sent to Dr. Martha McCaughey, Gender & Society Book Review Editor, Women's Studies, Living Learning Center, Appalachian State University, Boone, NC 28608; gendsoc@appstate.edu.
Please note that the journal does not accept or consider unsolicited book reviews but instead invites appropriate scholars to review books germane to the scope and mission of Gender & Society. This journal does not review text books.
