Types of Articles

The Journal of Pain and Symptom Management: Including Supportive and Palliative Care publishes the following types of articles: review articles, original articles, clinical reports, special articles, media reviews, and informal communications such as letters to the editor and announcements.

Original articles present new information that makes a substantial contribution to the body of knowledge on the subject. The text should be divided into sections with the headings Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, and Acknowledgments.

Review articles describe and evaluate previously published material in order to suggest new approaches or ideas and should not be a simple repetition of readily available information.

Clinical notes are case reports or brief descriptions of new research techniques or equipment.

Special articles. Those manuscripts that do not fit into the above categories may be published if they present new or relevant information.

Letters. The Journal welcomes correspondence pertaining to issues of interest to readers. Letters are subject to review. Letters concerning a previously published article are forwarded to the author for a letter of reply. After favorable editorial review, both letters will be published.

In view of the Copyright Act of 1976, all letters to the editor must be accompanied by a transmittal letter discussed under "cover letter."

Information Exchange.
