The Journal of Pediatric Nursing: Nursing Care of Children and Families (JPN) is interested in publishing evidence-based practice, quality improvement, theory, and research papers on a variety of topics from US and international authors. JPN is the official journal of the Society of Pediatric Nurses and the Pediatric Endocrinology Nursing Society. Cecily L. Betz, PhD, RN, FAAN is the Founder and Editor in Chief.
Journal content covers the life span from birth to adolescence. Submissions should be pertinent to the nursing care needs of healthy and ill infants, children, and adolescents, addressing their biopsychosocial needs. JPN also features the following regular columns for which authors may submit brief papers: Research Commentary, Clinical Practice, Hot Topics, and Technology.

Journal of Pediatric Nursing: Nursing Care of Children and Families (JPN) is interested in publishing clinical, theory, programmatic and research paperson a variety of topics. JPN is the official journal of the Society of PediatricNurses and Pediatric Endocrinology Nursing Society. Papers are publishedcovering the life span from birth to adolescence. Subject matter pertinent tothe nursing care needs of healthy and ill infants, children and adolescentsaddressing their biopsychosocial needs is disseminated in the Journal.
In addition, the Journal features regular columns to which authors areencouraged to submit brief papers and announcements. These columnsinclude Clinical Practice, Hot Topics, Research Commentary, Technology, SPNNews and PENS News. Also, as a special feature, selected articles exemplifyingtimely topics are published as an Editor's Choice selection. Cecily L. Betz, PhD, RN,FAAN is the Founder and Editor-in-Chief and Angela Green, PhD, APN is theAssociate Editor.

THE REVIEW PROCESS
This is a referred journal. All manuscripts received by the Editor-in-Chiefand sent to reviewers are treated as privileged communication. Manuscripts aresubmitted electronically via the JPN website, http://ees.elsevier.com/jpediatrnurs/.Manuscripts will be assigned to reviewers for blind review. Generally,manuscripts are sent to two review experts. The original review team reviewsmanuscripts requiring revisions to ensure consistency. Scoring guides used bythe reviewers for clinical, review/theoretical and research papers are availablefrom the Editor-in-Chief upon request.
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS FOR MANUSCRIPT PREPARATION
The text and reference of the manuscript must conform in style to theAmerican Psychological Association (APA) Guidelines 6th Edition. The informationrequired for the electronic submission is detailed below:
1) Title Page: The following information should appear on the title page: a)title of the manuscript; b) author (s) name (s) with highest degree earned;c) position title; d) institutional affiliation (s); e) institutional addresses;f) email address, telephone and fax number of corresponding author; g)acknowledgement of extramural funding; h) identification of previouspresentation (s) of paper to include meeting name, date and location; andh) any commercial financial support. 2) Article Type: Identify type of article that is to be submitted: research paper,clinical article, review/theoretical, brief report, column, letter to the editor. 3) Author Information: Insert information on corresponding author andremaining authors as well as academic degrees, institutional affiliationsand email addresses. 4) AAbstract: Approximately 50 to 100 words in length, which is typed directly/pasted as a separate file. Abstract is to conform to the APA 6th editionguidelines. 5) Manuscript Classification: Identify the manuscript's topical area by selectingone or more classifications from the list. 6) Comments: Enter comments that are to be directed to the Editor-in-Chief/Associate Editor/Column Editor 7) Cover Letter: Submit as a separate file to the editor the following:, thetitle of the paper, contact information for the corresponding author, disclosureof information if any previous presentations of data have beengiven, the manuscript is not being currently reviewed by another journal,other manuscripts with related data currently submitted to other journals,and disclosure of financial interests. 8) Manuscript Text: Submit as a separate file. The manuscript narrative formatshould conform to the APA 6th edition guidelines. The manuscriptshould include page numbers but no personal identification of the author.There is not a fixed limit to manuscript length; however, it is essentialthat it be appropriate for the manuscript type and succinct in presentation.Manuscript pages should be double spaced. 9) Tables and Figures: These are submitted as separate files. Tables andFigures should be complementary and not duplicative of the manuscriptnarrative. Format tables using APA 6th edition guidelines. 10) Artwork/Photographs: Refer directly to the "Author Artwork Guidelines" on the website. 11) The Journal of Pediatric Nursing has adopted the following guidelines toassist authors and reviewers. Please consult the applicable guidelinesduring manuscript development.CONSORT guidelines for randomized controlled trials: http://www.consort-statement.orgSQUIRE guidelines for quality improvement projects: http://www.squirestatement.org 12) Brief Report: These manuscripts are short reports of original studies orclinical evaluations that are limited in scope, contain novel or provocativefindings that need further replication, or represent replications andextensions of prior published work A structured abstract is required.Recommended length: 1000-1500 words (not including abstract, tables,figures, references, and online-only material) with no more than a totalof 3 tables and/or figures. The Brief Report should give a clear, condensedsummary of the procedure of the study or the clinical evaluation and asfull an account of the results as space permits. An author who submits aBrief Report must agree not to submit the full report to another journal ofgeneral circulation.
AUDIOSLIDES
The journal encourages authors to create an AudioSlides presentation with their published article. AudioSlides are brief, webinar-style presentations that are shown next to the online article on ScienceDirect. This gives authors the opportunity to summarize their research in their own words and to help readers understand what the paper is about. More information and examples are available at http://www.elsevier.com/audioslides. Authors of this journal will automatically receive an invitation e-mail to create an AudioSlides presentation after acceptance of their paper.
