About the journal

 Journal of Physiology and Pharmacology publishes papers which fall within the range of basic and applied physiology, pathophysiology and pharmacology. The papers should illustrate new physiological or pharmacological mechanisms at the level of the cell membrane, single cells, tissues or organs. Clinical studies, that are of fundamental importance and have a direct bearing on the pathophysiology will also be considered. Letters related to articles published in The Journal with topics of general professional interest are welcome.


Instructions to Authors
TYPE OF PAPERS

Regular Research Reports should present the author's own original studies that fall within the broad range of physiology and pharmacology.

Rapid Communications
should present exciting new results within the scope of The Journal.

Review Articles
should present the most important current topics on subject of general interest. Reviews generally are invited; however, authors can inquire about potential interest in a review.

SUBMISSION OF MANUSCRIPTS

Three copies of the manuscript in English and figures should be addressed to Editorial Office: Institute of Physiology, Grzegórzecka 16, 31-531 Kraków, Poland. Manuscripts should follow the Vancouver conventions (see Br Med J 1979: 1:532-51). They should be in double-spaced typewriting on one side of the paper only. The title page should include the name of the author(s) with initials and the name and address of the laboratory where the work was performed. The paper must include a precise summary of the works of less than 200 words. Papers should be styled as follows: title page, summary, key words, introduction, material and methods, results, discussion, acknowledgements, references, tables, figure legends and illustrations. Original papers should not exceed 20 typewritten pages including documentations while rapid communications must not exceed 8 typewritten pages. Excessive use of abbreviation is discouraged. A covering letter signed by corresponding author must state that the data have not been published elsewhere in whole or in part (except abstract) and that all authors agree to publication in The Journal. Papers must not be published elsewhere without prior permission of the Editorial Office. The editors cannot enter into correspondence about papers that are rejected as being unsuitable for publication, and their decision is final. In order to reduce mailing costs submitted manuscripts will not be returned. Only one set of manuscript and figure copies of rejected articles will be returned to the authors whenever possible.

ELECTRONIC SUBMISSION. Authors are requested to transmit the manuscript on computer disc. The disc must be labelled with the name and version of Word processor (e.g. Word 6.0). Tables and figures must be supplied in a separate files.

ILLUSTRATIONS, PHOTOGRAPHS. Unmounted photographs on glossy paper should be provided. Illustrations should not be inserted in the text but marked on the back with the figure numbers, title of paper and name of author. All photographs, graphs, diagrams should be referred to as figures and should be numbered consecutively in the text in Arabic numerals. The legends for illustrations should be typed on a separate sheet.

ETHICS. When conducting experiments on animals, authors should follow the institution`s or the National Research Council`s guide for the care and use of laboratory animals. When conducting scientific research using humans or human tissue authors should follow procedures that are in accordance with the ethical standards known as the Helsinki Declaration 1975 (revised 1983). The Editors reserve the right to reject papers if there is doubt whether suitable procedures have been used.

PERMISSIONS. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce or adapt material protected by copyright, such as illustrations, photographs, tabular material, and quotations of substantial lenght. Permission letters from the copyright holder and the author of the original source (with the complete bibliographic information) must be submitted with the manuscript.

SI UNITS. All measurements except blood pressure are expressed in SI units.

REFERENCES. These follow the Vancouver system - that is references numbered consecutively (included in parentheses) in the text and listed numerically with journal titles abbreviated in the style of Index Medicus, Standard Journal Article: (list all authors when six or less; when seven or more, list first three and add et al): King BF, Love JA, Szurszewski JH. . Reprints will be available on payment of the necessary costs; the number of reprints required should be sent to the Editorial Office on the form provided with the proof.
