About the journal
The Journal of Biological Regulators and Homeostatic Agents considers the publication of peer-reviewed original contributions, reviews and editorials in the field of biological response regulators and homeostatic agents. The areas covered by the Journal will include basic and clinical research on:
. molecular biology . pharmacology . cell physiology . immunotherapy . immunology . transplantation . (lymphokines and interferons) . preventive medicine . endocrinology . flow cytometry . bead array technology . cytomics
All substances or drugs that could be responsible for cellular regulation or differentiation will range among the topics of the Journal. Of course, research on genetic engineering methods and their products also have the vivid interest of the Editors. The new and promising anti cancer and anti virus strategies resulting from the recent revolution in molecular and cellular biology will provide new opportunities for enhancing scientific knowledge and discussion.
The new section on Clinical Cell Analysis covers the advancement and standardization of techniques and assays used for cell analysis for clinical purposes.
Instructions to Authors
To facilitate the submission-review-publication process, manuscripts (3 copies) should be submitted only to Coordinator for the Secretariat of the Journal:
Ms. Anna Tobelli (tobelli@iss.it) Journal of Biological Regulators and Homeostatic Agents c/o Laboratorio di Virologia - Istituto Superiore di Sanit¨¤ Viale Regina Elena 299 00161 Roma - Italy
or alternatively to:
Prof. Fabio Malavasi (fabio.malavasi@unito.it), Laboratorio di Immunogenetica Dipartimento di Genetica, Biologia e Biochimica, Via Santena 19, 10126 Torino -Italy
Manuscripts dealing with Clinical Cell Analysis should be submitted to the EWGCCA Editor:
Dr. Francesco Lanza (francesco_lanza@tin.it) Sezione di Ematologia Universit¨¤ degli Studi Arcispedale S. Anna Azienda Ospedaliera at Ferrara C.so Giovecca 203 44100 Ferrara - Italy
Three sets of figures and illustration should be enclosed. All manuscripts will be reviewed by two referees and, when their advice will be split, also examined by the Editor(s), who will, then, support either one of the referees¡¯ advice. The Editors reserve the right to make corrections in grammar and style for manuscripts originating from countries other than those where English is the mother language.
Form of manuscripts:
Articles must be in English, and presented in the following order:
- Title, with a shortened version for page headings (not to exceed 45 letters and spaces including the senior author¡¯s name).
- Initial(s) and surname of each author, the name of the author to whom communications should be adressed being underlined and his address given at the end of the paper.
- Name and place of the institution(s) where the work was done.
- About 6 key words.
- Abstract (10-15 lines of typescript).
- Text of article.
- Acknowledgements.
- References.
- Captions of figures.
- Tables (roman numerals, prepared on separate sheets).
The manuscript must be typed neatly, double spaced on one side of the paper only and with at least 5 cm. (2 inches) margins (2.5 cm. each). Galley proofs are sent to the first named Author unless otherwise indicated. They should be sent back within 48 hours from receipt. Reprint order forms and price list are sent with the galley proofs; airmail shipment is on request and an extra charge is due. The approximate positions of figures and tables must be marked in the margin.
Please use ample subheadings and arrange your text as follows:
Introduction: State briefly the nature and purpose of the work, quoting the relevant literature.
Material and methods: Include details of clinical and technical procedures.
Results: Present these clearly, concisely and without comments.
Discussion: Explain your results and relate them to those of other authors; define their significance for clinical practice, if any.
References: They should be mentioned in the text by numbers and numbered progressively. Examples: ...(1)...; ...(1, 2)...
References: They should be limited to a critical selection. Examples:
1 - Paper published in journals: (List all authors when six or less; when seven or more, list only first three and add et al.) You CH, Lee KY, Chey WY, Menguy R. Electrogastrographic study of patients with unexplained nausea, bloating and vomiting. Gastroenterology 1980; 79: 311-4.
2 - Books: Eisen HN. Immunology: an introduction to molecular and cellular principles of the immune response. 5th ed. New York: Harper and Row, 1974; 406.
3 - Contributions in books: Weinstein L, Swartz MN. Pathogenic properties of invading microorganisms. In: Sodeman WA Jr, Sodeman WA, eds. Pathologic physiology: mechanisms of disease. Philadelphia: WB Saunders, 1974, 457-72.
Tables and illustrations: Tables should be numbered in roman numerals, typed in double space on separate sheets, and should have headings. Three (3) sets of glossy prints of each figure should be submitted. Mark the back of the figures with their number and the name of the first author and indicate the top of the figure. Helvetica characters are preferred. Each figure should have a legend and all legends should be typed sequentially on a separate sheet. The Publisher will not accept sketches for redrawing. Sharp glossy photos are preferred. In the final printed size up to 8.7 cm. for column width, up to 18.6 cm. for page width, up to 22.2 cm. for page height. The full cost of colours plates (after negociations with the Publisher) must be borne by the authors.
Short notes are wellcome and will be published if found suitable and as space permits. They should be limited to three printed pages and no more than three illustration items. The Notes should report completed work and not preliminary findings, and will be subjected to review by referees.
Footnotes: They should be avoided. If essential they appear at the bottom of the respective page and must be numbered consecutively.
Small type: Paragraphs which can or must be set in smaller type (test methods etc.) should be marked with vertical line a "P" (petit) in the margin. Single words to be emphasized typografically should by underlined.
Reprints Authors may purchase reprints at prices specified in the letter of acceptance.
Submission of manuscripts by e-mail is encouraged: manuscripts should be prepared with an IBM-compatible word processor. Figures can be submitted as computer files in common graphic programs in Tiff, Gif, Bmp or Jpeg formats. Each individual figure should be clearly labelled with the figure number, software name and version used. Both manuscripts and figure sets should be submitted as attached files along with the e-mail message by the author responsible for correspondence. As an alternative to e-mail, 3.5" floppy disk, 100 MB Zip diskette or CD-Rom, containing text and figures, will also be accepted.
