About the journal

Psychology of Women Quarterly (PWQ) is a feminist journal that publishes primarily qualitative and quantitative research with substantive and theoretical merit, along with critical reviews, theoretical articles, and invited book reviews related to the psychology of women and gender. Topics include career choice and training; management and performance variables; education; lifespan role development and change; physical and mental health and well-being; physical, sexual, and psychological abuse; violence and harassment; prejudice and discrimination; psychobiological factors; sex-related comparisons; sexuality, sexual orientation, and heterosexism; social and cognitive processes; and therapeutic processes. Topics related to ethnic minority and cross-cultural issues are encouraged. These suggestions are not exhaustive, but are intended to guide the investigator when considering appropriateness of an article for the journal. Literary analyses do not fall within the purview of the journal.

Instructions to Authors
Manuscript Submission Five high quality copies of a manuscript should be submitted to the Editorial Office. An accompanying letter should request review and include the following information: that the manuscript (a) is not currently under review elsewhere, (b) has not been previously published in whole or in part, and (c) conforms to APA standards on ethical treatment of participants.
Submit manuscripts to: Jayne E. Stake Department of Psychology University of Missouri, St. Louis St. Louis, MO 63121
Manuscript Review Policy Standard masked peer review procedures are used for all submissions. APA policy prohibits an author from submitting the same manuscript for concurrent consideration by more than one journal. Prior or duplicate publication constitutes unethical behavior. Authors have an obligation to consult the Editor if there is any question about an article's suitability for PWQ. Authors submitting a manuscript previously considered for publication in another journal should inform the Editor, who will then seek to obtain reviews from consultants who have not previously reviewed the manuscript.
Manuscript Preparation and Style Follow the general style guidelines set forth in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (5th edition). A manuscript must be typed on 8.5 x 11" on white bond paper with 1" margins on all sides. The entire manuscript--including abstract, quotations, notes, references, figure captions, and tables--must be typed double spaced. Manuscript pages must be numbered consecutively. The use of sexist or ethnically biased language is unacceptable. Except under unusual circumstances, authors are expected to make available upon request all previously unpublished questionnaires or scales used in an article. The Editor may find it necessary to return a manuscript for reworking or retyping that does not conform to requirements. Authors of accepted manuscripts will be asked to provide both a hard copy and an electronic file of the final version. Arrange the manuscript pages in the following order:
Title and Acknowledgements (page 1). To facilitate masked review, all indication of authorship must be limited to this page (other pages must show the short title plus page number at the top right). Include on the title page (a) full article title, (b) names and affiliations of all authors, (c) acknowledgements, and (d) mailing and email addresses and telephone and fax numbers of the individual serving as the point of contact.
Abstract (page 2). Abstract should not exceed 150 words. At the bottom of this page, list appropriate keywords for the manuscript.
Text (page 3). Use a 5-character paragraph indent. Do not use desktop publishing features, such as right margin justification or bold/italic typefaces.
Notes Footnotes are not permitted in the text. If necessary, endnotes may be used. Number consecutively throughout text and list on a separate page preceding the reference section.
References References cited in text must appear in the reference list. Follow the examples in the 5th edition of the APA manual for specific guidelines.
Tables Tables must appear as a unit following the reference section. Each table should be typed double-spaced on a separate sheet, be numbered consecutively, and include a caption. All tables must be cited in the text.
Figures Prepare figures according to the guidelines provided in the 5th edition of the APA manual.
Copyediting and Page Proofs The publisher reserves the right to copyedit manuscripts to conform to journal style. The lead author will receive page proofs for correction of typographical errors only. No rewriting of the accepted manuscript will be allowed in the proof stage. Authors must return proofs to the proofreader within 48 hours of receipt or approval will be assumed.
Author Material Archive Policy Please note that unless specifically requested, Blackwell Publishing will dispose of all hardcopy or electronic material two months after publication. If you require the return of any material submitted, please inform the editorial office or production editor as soon as possible if you have not yet done so.
Artwork We are happy to receive your artwork in digital format. Please save line artwork (vector graphics) as Encapsulated PostScript (EPS) and bitmap files (halftones or photographic images) as Tagged Image Format (TIFF), with a resolution of at least 300 dpi at final size. Do not send native file formats. More detailed information on the submission of electronic artwork can be found at http://www.blackwellpublishing.com/authors/digill.asp.
Offprints The lead author of articles only will receive 50 free offprint copies of her or his article. Additional offprints (and copies of the issue) may be ordered at the page proof stage. Also, authors of book reviews may order offprints at the proof stage. Orders received after the proof stage will not be accepted.
Copyright Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to use previously published material. Contributors of accepted articles will be asked to assign their copyrights to Blackwell Publishing.
