About the journal
Psychological Research/Psychologische Forschung publishes articles that contribute to a basic understanding of human perception, attention, memory, and action. The Journal is devoted to the dissemination of knowledge based on firm experimental ground, but not to particular approaches or schools of thought. Theoretical and historical papers are welcome to the extent that they serve this general purpose; papers of an applied nature are acceptable if they contribute to basic understanding or serve to bridge the often felt gap between basic and applied research in the field covered by the Journal.
Instructions to Authors
The author(s) transfer(s) the copyright to his/their article to Springer- Verlag effective if and when the article is accepted for publication. The copyright covers the exclusive and unlimited rights to reproduce and distribute the article in any form of reproduction (printing, electronic media or any other form); it also covers translation rights for all languages and countries. For U.S. authors the copyright is transferred to the extent transferable. Manuscripts must be accompanied by the ‘‘Copyright Transfer Statement’’ (the form is regularly published in this journal). Papers should be written in English. They should be prepared according to the conventions described in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association. When in doubt, consult a recent issue of the journal (not earlier than Vol. 46).
To speed up the refereeing process, submissions should preferably be in the form of a pdf file attached to an e-mail and addressed to the Coordinating Editor (see back cover page). If it is not possible to provide pdf files, four copies of the manuscript should be submitted to the Coordinating Editor. The copies should be typed, double-spaced with wide margins, and on one side of the paper only. Form and content must be carefully checked to exclude the need for changes in proof. In order to reduce mailing costs, rejected manuscripts will not normally be returned. Once a manuscript has been accepted, authors are requested also to send the manuscript on diskette.
To facilitate communication between the authors, editors and publisher, the author should furnish his/her e-mail address and/or fax number on the title page of the manuscript. Please mark the desired positions of figures and tables in the margin of the manuscript. Each paper should be preceded by an abstract summarizing the main points (not more than 3/4 of a typed page).
Footnotes - except those referring to the title of the article - are to be numbered consecutively.
The number and size of the illustrations must be kept to the minimum required for clarification of the text. Previously published figures cannot be accepted. Explanations of figures furnished as legends should not be repeated in the text. Numerical data given in graphs or tables must not duplicate each other. For color illustrations the authors will be expected to make a contribution (€ 950, US $ 1150, plus 16% VAT) towards the extra costs, irrespective of the number of color figures. All figures, whether photographs, graphs or diagrams, should be numbered consecutively throughout and submitted on separate sheets.
Please submit good quality glossy prints in the desired final size. The inscriptions should be clearly legible. Letters 2 mm high are recommended.
Please submit well-contrasted photographic prints, trimmed at right angles and in the desired final size. Inscriptions should be about 3 mm high.
Each figure should be briefly and clearly described. Remarks like: ‘‘For explanation, see text’’ should be avoided. Captions are a part of the text and should be appended to it.
2 complimentary copies are supplied. Orders for offprints can be placed by returning the order form with the corrected proofs. When you order offprints, you are entitled to receive in addition a pdf file of your article for your own personal use.
